an alternate desert

Introduction
"Long ago a mysterious calamity consumed a once great nation; flooding the land and draining the denizens of life. Today, the site of the land's territories are little more than massive and still graves. But through the muck, fog, and silence... adventurers report strange lights and figures moving in the distance..."
It's finally here! The desert alt has finally arrived!
Firstly. Wow. Sorry that this alt took so long to post. YICK. I'll attempt to be better about deadlines and drafts in the future to make sure that those who are waiting for alternates, don't have to go insane doing so. The Necropolis was an odd duck to work on. I had one vision for the alternate while waiting for the new Desert content to drop. Afterwards though, working on it almost seemed too close to the source biome. So I shook it up.
In the Necropolis you will find strong marsh themes mixed with very classical and traditional ghost mythologies. Visually, it's a huge departure from the current Desert. But as with most of my alts these days; we have entered darker themes. The most difficult part of creating The Necropolis was the alternate's many forms. It seems like just about everything has a Corruption, Crimson, and Hallow variation. And I didn't skimp; so I alternate'd all the Necropolis content too! If you find something I may have skipped over (totally possible) just let me know and I'll fix it asap.
Well. Without further ado, please enjoy The Necropolis! I hope it was worth every bit the wait!
There's nothing here yet!

This is a suggestion. And as such does not assume anything definitively. This means...
Balance is a non-issue; the numbers are provided to elicit an idea of what values an object could have. If the not-set-in-stone-imaginary numbers upset you, you're welcome to suggest other numbers, but they have no bearing on the suggestion changed or not.
Sprites are a non-issue; sprites have been provided, like balance, to help imagine the suggestion as a concept. In no way are any of the sprites final. Just like the numbers, they too are not-set-in-stone-imaginary things. This means that recolored, spliced, and unique sprites have no ultimate bearing on the suggestion. If any particular sprite upsets you, you are welcome to provide one of your own to remedy the not-actually-an-issue so that I may reject it.
This is an alternate. This means that The Necropolis can spawn in a world instead of the Desert. It does not replace the Desert. As an alternate, The Necopolis additionally does not mirror the values or gameplay of The Desert in a 1:1 ratio. It is it's own biome, not a recolor or reskin. The Necorpolis is also NOT an expansion. There is no additional content. Content included in The Necropolis is a counterpart or replacement of existing content given to the Desert.
Lastly; as an alternate (and not an expansion or replacement), The Necropolis does not assume to redefine class balance. I'm sorry if your favorite class isn't represented well in the suggestion. If the Desert represented all classes equally, so too would The Necropolis .

Sediment and it's biome derivatives do not entirely replace Sand in a world. Sand may still generate in the Underground and Ocean biomes.
![]()
Sedimentstone Block Walls and it's biome derivatives are naturally generated/converted. They are unobtainable.
![]()
Willow does not replace Palm Wood entirely. They are just the item generated from chopping down Willow trees, which spawn on Sediment.
Environment

![]()
Willow trees grow when Acorns are planted on Sediment instead of Palm trees. Palm trees can still grow when placed on Sand.
![]()
The surface of The Necropolis is littered with pools of shallow water.
The Necropolis does not have a "heat shimmer" effect. Instead, it has a thin fog effect.
The Necropolis does not have Sandstorms. Instead, The Necropolis is host to Heavy Fog which greatly impairs a player's vision.

Tough Tooth gives the player a Bone Maw mount. The Bone Maw mount "swims" through the top of the ground and can swim across the surfaces of water. It moves more quickly when moving through Mud, Sediment, and Water. The mount can perform a short dash by tapping left/right twice, which will cause minor damage to enemies.

Maggots can be used as bait with a Bait Power of 15%
![]()
The land has become so saturated with magic that the sediment and water congeal into the Sediment Slimes. Like the magic they are born from, they seek to extinguish any life they come across.
Sediment Slimes behave like all other slimes!
![]()
Gravelings are parasitic beings that live off of bones and decaying flesh. Once thought to have been extinct, they have recently reappeared in the lands of The Necropolis.
Gravelings are very fast fighters that rush the player.
![]()
The Soulless are believed to be the reanimated remains of the citizens belonging to the now sunken nation. Why they are just now beginning to rise from The Necropolis remains unknown but their numbers are legion.
Soulless behave like Zombies, but are noticeably quicker. You can alter the direction the sprite is walking by thinking of the new direction; allowing the sprite to moon walk.
![]()
Soulless Harvesters were once farmers that fed the now sunken nation. Caught in the magic calamity, their remains now act as the standard guards of the undead realm.
Soulless Harvesters behave like Zombies, but are noticeably quicker. Soulless Harvesters have a strong knock back paired with their attacks.
![]()
It is not uncommon for adventurers to become lost in the fog of The Necropolis. When adventurers do become lost, they must take care not to follow strange lights. Doing so will bring them to Will O Wisps, and the adventurer's life will be forfeit.
Will O Wisps travel very slowly toward the player. They appear in Heavy Fog events during both normal and hardmode.
![]()
The Obelisks are some of the last remaining structures of the old nation. Their purpose was originally to defend against monsters. Today they are malfunctioning and dangerous, targeting anything living.
Obelisks charge when a player comes into range. Upon full charge they fire a beam at the player. Obelisks appear normally and when the Heavy Fog event takes place.
![]()
A frightening side effect to the sickening magic saturation is that common maggots have mutated to become Marsh Maggots. Marsh Maggots are bloated digestive sacs feeding on anything they come across; living or dead.
Marsh Maggots move slowly and can travel on walls and ceilings.
![]()
Soulless Knights were once unparalleled warriors in their time. Today, they are little more than shadows of their former selves. It is wise for adventurers not to underestimate them in groups though; as they still work well in teams and carry over some of their previous combat experiences.
Soulless Knights approach and attack the player in a basic fashion. They take 5% less magic and ranged damage. They can additionally appear during Heavy Fog.
![]()
The Soulless Mages used to be some of the land's most powerful magicians and healers. Today, the mages charge magic with the very spirits that haunt the area to wield against intruders.
Soulless Mages hover within range of the player and begin charging a spirit bolt. The spirit bolt can pass through blocks. Soulless Mages can glide as they fall, giving their "jumps" a slightly improved range. They can additionally appear during Heavy Fog.
![]()
![]()
Banshees are not remnants of the old nation. As undead, they are relatively new. Banshees belong to a brand new and flourishing cult of Death worshipers. Their goal seems to be to incite, become, and control the undead hordes of The Necropolis.
Banshees are very fast and can phase through blocks to reach a player. They can release a screech at the player that causes damage and Slow.
![]()
![]()
![]()
Not all adventurers are pure of heart. Some adventurers of lesser virtue become Grave Robbers to pillage The Necropolis. This does not go unpunished though, as the land itself latches on to those who are weak of heart and possesses them. Now these adventurers are nothing more than puppets for the spirits that inhabit the land.
Grave Robbers appear with a variety of weapons. Most are simple fighters. Some will appear with Bows, Throwing Knives, and Sparking Wands. Depending on the type of Grave Robber, various debuffs can be inflicted on the player.
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
Wights are neither undead nor spirits; Wights are overgrown crypt worms that wear bones as a haphazard disguise to close in on prey. Because of the fog and darkness of The Necropolis, and the Wight's natural ability to burrow, they have claimed many adventurers.
Wights are fighters that also behave like casters. Instead of teleporting though, Wights burrow and then reappear near the player. Depending on the type of Wights, various debuffs can be inflicted on the player.
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
One of the most dangerous creatures in the area of The Necropolis' marshes are the Bone Maws. Bone Maws are vicious predators that swim through water, sediment, and mud to hunt prey in the thick fog. Bone Maws are known to adapt quickly to their environment and should not be underestimated as they will continuously chase prey until they have feasted.
Bone Maws behave just like Sand Sharks but can cause Bleeding with their attacks. Bone Maws will also chase the player until they are killed. Bone Maws only appear during Heavy Fog.
![]()
The Doppleganger is a rare and dangerous spirit. They are formed when powerful magics mold them and force them into a container resembling an adventurer. From this vessel, the spirit's rage and willingness to escape fuel the Doppleganger's attacks and drive.
Dopplegangers are not encountered naturally. They are summoned by Liches. Dopplegangers take on the appearance of the player, though "dyed" in a ghostly hue. Dopplegangers can use several different weapons including; Bows, Guns, Swords, Spears, and Wands.
![]()
Phantoms are lamenting spirits that do not pass into the beyond because of a great tragedy that befell them in life. In the instance of most Phantoms, this tragedy was the unexpected calamity that took the old nation. Their sorrow is so great that their only comfort left is to inflict sorrow on others.
Phantoms move very quickly toward the player and can phase through blocks to reach them.
![]()
The most despicable of undead are the Liches. Liches were former mages and aristocrats of the old nation who cheated their deaths by willingly becoming undead somehow. Because of this, Liches are more intelligent and dangerous than their other undead kin. What's worse is that their magical abilities have not faded with age. They wield terrible magics to summon and command undead and spirits.
Liches can summon Soulless Mages and Dopplegangers to attack the player. These summons do not count toward the enemy cap. Allowing the Lich to continuously summon minions to fight for it can become extremely dangerous very quickly. In Expert Mode, a Lich's presence in the area will periodically regenerate the health of enemies.

Small idea: change the sediment in a bottle to fog in a bottle. Also, you missed an s in the soulless harvester description.

It was originally, but I moved away from it. I thought it was too close to cloud in a bottle. As sediment in a bottle, I have this vision of it spraying muck outward. Which I think is funny.ISmall idea: change the sediment in a bottle to fog in a bottle.

Superb as always Izzabelle. Some questions about the Phylactery, does it need to be equipped to work? (I assume it does) And what is the revival state? Does it leave you with the same amount of health as respawning?
Honestly I didn't have a clear idea of what to expect from this, but this both wasn't what I was thinking, and looks awsome. Again, great work.

It has to be equipped to work. The other details are purposely vague because it's more of a balance thing. The important detail is it lets you cheat death once. Which is especially nice for Hardcore players.Superb as always Izzabelle. Some questions about the Phylactery, does it need to be equipped to work? (I assume it does) And what is the revival state?
