Welcome to the River!"A culmination of departed spirits create a flow beneath the earth where they are ferried into the beyond. The stillness and quiet of the current hides it's fury for the living. Life isn't welcome here, and there is a price to pay for your intrusion."
The River was my 2nd ever suggestion and alternate. It is based on the rivers of the Underworld in Greek Mythology. At the time of creating this suggestion, I didn't really know how to sprite much at all. So to compensate, a great deal of the sprites I used were recolors, splices, or existing sprites with minor alterations. Since then, I have created many more alternates and have improved both my skill at formatting and at spriting. Because of this, however, The River fell behind in terms of quality. And there it sat...
But to my surprise, many of you did not hold this against The River. And to this day, it remains one of the most liked suggestions I have ever proposed. It was clear to me that with the advent of 1.3 and the great support you have shown for the alternate; The River was due for an update to bring it in line. That day is here! Much of the sprites have been updated to better reflect my original vision for The River and it has been further brought in line with Greek Mythology. I hope everyone enjoys the changes, I tried to keep as much as possible true to the spirit that is the suggestion so many of you have come to love.
Sincerely, thank you so much for the support! Enjoy!

This is a suggestion. And as such does not assume anything definitively. This means...
Balance is a non-issue; the numbers are provided to elicit an idea of what values an object could have. If the not-set-in-stone-imaginary numbers upset you, you're welcome to suggest other numbers, but they have no bearing on the suggestion changed or not.
Sprites are a non-issue; sprites have been provided, like balance, to help imagine the suggestion as a concept. In no way are any of the sprites final. Just like the numbers, they too are not-set-in-stone-imaginary things. This means that recolored, spliced, and unique sprites have no ultimate bearing on the suggestion. If any particular sprite upsets you, you are welcome to provide one of your own to remedy the not-actually-an-issue so that I may reject it.
This is an alternate. This means that The River can spawn in a world instead of The Underworld. It does not replace The Underworld. As an alternate, The River additionally does not mirror the values or gameplay of The Underworld in a 1:1 ratio. It is it's own biome, not a recolor or reskin. The River is also NOT an expansion. There is no additional content. Content included in The River is a counterpart or replacement of existing content given to The Underworld.
Lastly; as an alternate (and not an expansion or replacement), The River does not assume to redefine class balance. I'm sorry if your favorite class isn't represented well in the suggestion. If The Underworld represented all classes equally, so too would The River.
Addendum:
1. I am currently not interested in converting my suggestions into mods. Thank you for the consideration, but I'll have to pass.
2. If you wish to use my unique sprites, you MUST ask for permission first.

The Three-Eyed Ravens of the River are exceptionally intelligent. It is rumored that not only are all the ravens' vision linked, but that their third eyes serve another master.
Three-Eyed Ravens cause Blackout with their attacks and are very fast.
So many souls flow through the River that sometimes even the Aether comes to life in the form of a slime. The River Slimes are an adhesion of multiple souls all vying to be free of their otherworldly prison.
When a River Slime is killed, it splits into 2 smaller slimes. When those slimes are killed, they again split into 2 more slimes each.
At night, if you can even tell in the depths of the River, Funeral Pyres appear. The pyres are enchanted to ward off the living, but who constructs the pyres that guide and honor the dead?
Funeral Pyres will launch a drifting flame at the player. The flame can go through blocks and inflict Mortality.
One of the major horrors of the River are the River Basilisks. They are vicious serpents that feed on bone, dust, and rock. Making matters worse, the River Basilisks seem utterly immune to the affects of the River.
River Basilisks can swim quickly through Aether, but move slowly on land. They will attempt to bite the player, but will periodically cast a petrifying gaze that inflicts Stoned just like Medusa. River Basilisks can not use the gaze while swimming
The River is full of the dead. Some are cursed to wander about for eternity... unable to afford passage into the next stage of death. While others wait to pay for the journey. Regardless of their situation in death, the dead's envy of the living will cause them to attempt to snatch it from anything with a pulse.
The dead hover about and attempt to make contact with the player. They can inflict Darkness with their attacks.
The ghastly Orb Weavers are thread spinners of the greatest caliber. They are exclusively seen in the River where they construct massive nests of threaded web. They can live for centuries and are notorious for knowing when anything living has entered their domain
Orb Weavers fire a strand of webbing at the player; if hit, the player becomes Webbed while the Orb Weaver is drawn to the player via the strand. When the Orb Weaver arrives, the player is slowed and at the mercy of the Orb Weaver's melee attacks. The webbing inflicts damage and can pass through blocks. The Orb Weaver can pass through blocks while it is drawing itself to the player.
The mysterious Fates are a rare sight in the River. They never directly engage anything, but they thrum with power. They wear cloaks over their bodies and never show themselves; but their shape clearly denotes that the Fates are not human.
Fates are rare. When they appear, enemy spawn rate is increased, and enemy stats are doubled; including movement and attack speeds. The Fate's mere presence inflicts Blackout on the player regardless of immunity. The Fate has the Temporal Field buff, which creates a time distortion bubble around it -- which will inflict Mortality on players who enter the bubble.
