when ever I lookin my trophy room I see hardly any pre-hardmode trophys. One for there respective biome... I don't see any for ocean though... How about a pre-hardmode boss for the ocean biome?!

Water serpent. (Sorry for no art, can't do it.)

The water serpent can spawn on its own after Skeletron is defeated. In the chat it says.

"You taste salt water in the air"

After a minute or two he spawns! He won't if I you aren't in the ocean.

HP 1500/1500 (sorry if too high. He's a bit stronger than skeletron)

His battle style is much like the wyvern's. Chairing at you, and turning.

He will also sometimes do a water blast.

In his second form his speed gets up...

He turns darker. And his eyes glow yellow. He shouts his water blast more common too.

After he is beaten he will drop...

Water serpent trophy.

Water serpent mask.

Serpent tail: When hit you speed up for 2 seconds (not to be overpowered)

Water crystal: a prism of some sort that shouts his water blast.

Water jacket pack: just like the normal jet-pack, you can fly a bit.

And if you want to summon him you can make the fish food.

Recipe: 15 Goldfish,5 Bass, 2 lime kelp.
 
So it just spawns right after you kill a boss? Generally boss fights require a bit of preparation. Just throwing a boss at a player right after a difficult fight isn't right. Make it spawn in the ocean only.

Maybe it could have something water related, like giving you a stat boost after touching water.
 
It doesn't spawn right after. You know randomly sometimes the eye of Cluthu spawns. It's random
 
Sorry, I've got a different criticism of the spawning thing- nobody actually spends their time in the ocean in pre-HM. The ONLY valuable things one can get from the ocean (pre-HM) are the chest items, which take all of twenty seconds to gather, shark fins- which most people gather exclusively for the megashark, the Diving Helmet, which is a one time item and honestly not that valuable, and MAYBE some dyes.

For the boss itself- it's pretty uncreative. It's a fast wyvern with a ranged attack- no innovative strategy, no interesting fights. I also think that the EoW/Destroyer have proven that worm-type bosses (worm applying to multi-segmented and not digging) bosses really do not hold up well.

Drops- people above have mentioned that the Serpent's Tail already exists as the Panic Necklace (which is available pretty early-on). Having a droppable set of wings from a pre-HM boss seems unneccessary- the Lightning boots actually are almost able to compete with the Angel/Demon wings and they have a pretty convenient running speed bonus (unverified- angel/demon wings have a 0.03 longer flight time but I'm fairly certain they also ascend faster, will have to check when I get the chance).

The crystal thing just seems to be a generic mage weapon. See water bolt- it's on the same tier, it's got the theme down and it's one of the better pre-HM magic weapons.
 
idk, I like the idea of a new pre hard mode boss. but, as previously mentioned, its not insanely creative. Though I do love sea serpents. Maybe instead of just charging, turning around, and shooting stuff at the player it could have something like this:

(ps. I won't change a lot, as I'm not that experienced when it comes to creating AIs)
1st form:
-attack 1: generic charge.
-attack 2: will quickly circle the player, creating small 'whirl pools' (will probably be some for of magic projectile) that will slowly target the player
(this attack only happens when in water)

2nd form:
-attack 1: instead of just charging at the player, it will dash past the player (quicker than before) and shoot 3 homing water bolt-style projectiles
at the player.
-attack 2: will 'roar' at players, creating, i guess, 'waves' of water to travel quickly in a straight line towards the player. (only works in water)
-attack 3: same as '1st form, attack 2' but creates more 'whirl pools' and travels faster

also, idk maybe it could become 'enraged' if you leave the water, and will despawn if you leave the ocean biome?

thats all I've got for suggestions for now, idk, take it or leave it, lol, i don't care, I tried ;)
