What should the ending be like?

With 1.3 just around the corner, we've been promised an encounter with the "final boss" of the game. But what should happen once that final boss is vanquished?

It just blows up, you pick up its loot, and carry on just like any other boss (maybe even summoning it again to farm it for more loot)? Yawn. If this is going to be the final boss, we should at least get an ending.

At the very least, beating the boss should unlock new NPC dialogue where they congratulate you for saving the world. An actual ending animation/credits depicting peace returning to the world of Terraria would be cool, as well.

Maybe the final boss will drop a statue of the player character that you can put in your base (with a gold version for beating the game in Expert Mode).

So, what do you think?

It would be a shame if the game ended after defeating him. What if you want to fight him again or just continue on building your epic base?

Yeah, I'm guessing whatever the nature of the ending, we'll be allowed to continue playing the game in that world. Maybe corruption/crimson/hallow will stop spreading, but we'll be allowed to do the bonus moon events and continue building.

And maybe even summon the final boss again for a rematch. It would be inconvenient if we needed to make a new world to fight the boss again.

Ideas and stuff! This is assuming that the final boss ends up being Cthulhu.

As you swing the final blow, Cthulhu lets out a primordial, echoing, unearthly scream. His body disintegrates, and a writhing black and purple mass of energy surges out. It attempts to flee, yet is stopped by a much larger, glowing green force. The Spirit of Darkness writhes and twists, but it is trapped, and is sealed away in a small, simple sphere of green energy, and plunged deep, deep into the ocean, as a chest made out of a shining green and gold metal forms around it. The spirit of Purity floats in front of your for a few moments, briefly transforming into the human form of a woman, before shooting up into the sky, leaving behind a glowing green orb of energy. After this, cutscene ends, and you can approach Cthulhu's corpse and loot all your goodies (depending on difficulty he should probably drop at LEAST one platinum). When you return to your NPCs there could be a cutscene, but regardless all NPCs would have a new, unique dialogue praising your victory. Over time, you would slowly see civilizations rebuild, you might see peaceful Merfolk in the ocean, Lihzahrd hunting in the jungle, or even humans building small towns aboveground and below. With your glowing green orb, using a plethora of rare endgame materials, you'd be able to craft a Beacon of Purity, a green and gold, ornate item that would be placed. Once placed, text would appear, saying "The world cleanses itself of evil..." All corruption, crimson and hallow would be purified from the world. Of course it would warn you about this, and you'd have to right click on it for it to work.

After the beacon is placed, regardless of being activated or not, the credits would roll, showing images such as NPCs interacting, the Player fighting the last of Cthulhu's forces, and the various races of the world rebuilding to their former glory. Now, if there's a secret boss/future content or anything of course the credits are going to end on a cliffhanger hinting towards something. After the credits roll, you are pushed to the title screen, and now, the background forever shows the various civilizations of your world, with the glowing beacon in the center.

Just found out achivments are released already. Dont read if you dont want to be spoiled about the endgame
[DOUBLEPOST=1435543761,1435543663][/DOUBLEPOST]also great idea though, your suggestions were always swag :)

THERE WILL BE A MASSIVE EXPLOSION DESTROYING EVERYTHING EVEN THE WORLD AND CHARACHTER!!

No seriously though I think you would be granted a trophy/statue or something.

The final boss explodes in gore, dropping items with the text "*Insert Boss Name Here* has been defeated!" Nothing else then happens.

Credits come on and at the end there is a video of red doing his sick yoyo skills, because I heard he has mad yoyo skills.

I feel that this really won't be the final boss. I mean, this boss could be causing all the evil in the world, but he could just be following the orders of someone or something else. Maybe you get sent to another world to kill another boss, then another world and another boss, and then, with its followers dead, the real boss could show itself. Just a thought though. That'd be cooler than credits rolling. I also wouldn't mind just a simple loot drop, so more bosses can be created in future updates (if there are any)

Final boss? Those are merely words. Terraria is a world and like any other world it is filled with evil - We may defeat this boss, but evil will still corrupt our worlds, we will still fight for the mighty light! To defeat the last boss is to defeat all evil. Until your world is no longer infested with evil, then we shall always be fighting this "Final boss" you speak off. :passionate:
