Why most summon 1.4.5 update is for hardmode even post-plantera?

I think summon is weak in the beginning and strong in hardmode. We need more for pre-hardmode. And I think summon overflows in post-plantera after 1.4.5.
 
tbh prehm summoner progression is already good. and for early hm there are the sanguine and blade staff

But yeah I agree more diversity would be welcome in phm and early hm
 
Flinx + Vampire Frog + Snapthorn is one of the strongest early game builds.
 
To be frank, you have a lot of viable summoner options pre-hardmode, to the point where all minions* have at least one use case. Might even be possible to do pure summoner pre-HM if you die in any mode other than hardcore or let the guide die as hardcore character.

*Except for a Slime Staff unless you manage to find it earlier than Flinx.

Dreadnautilus and Queen Slime are both tough flying enemies, so unless you want a miracle to happen, you have to place walls everywhere.

Not to mention the fact that the drop isn’t even guaranteed from QS and from Dread as well on Classic.

That’s why there should be some flying summon Pre-HM-Boss. No, Abagail’s flower does not count. It really isn’t that good.

Abigail is pretty solid for both of those fights (basically requires firecracker to be worthwhile) though I agree there should probably be another early-hm minion (which is weird considering there's already 4 of them, but the 2 that are easy/easy-ish to get both suck against flying bosses). Dreadnautilus is definitely a lot more manageable with spiders than queen slime is considering that you really don't need that big of an arena for it.

Abigail isn't good in pre-hardmode but the additional scaling she gets in hardmode plus great firecracker synergy makes her solid in early hardmode. From a game design perspective I do think this is a bit weird since there's no indication she gets additional scaling in hardmode, plus players won't think to use an earlygame weapon (which wasn't even that good in earlygame) during the midgame.

I don't have a good weapon for wall of flesh. I still use imp. I think I need a dungeon weapon. But I can only get a whip.
 
They're adding like 4 prehardmode whips...
Besides, Summoner is NOT underpowered in prehardmode, I the only reason it would be is if you just don't or cant get the right gear. I say this as someone who plays summoner a bit. It's not underpowered.
