Biomes & Nature Biome Hazards - Additions and improvements to natural "traps."

You can take out thorns by shooting them or slashing them. Is there a way to deal with the Blister Mine safely?

Detonating them with a pickaxe likely won't get you safe distance. When I hear detonate I thing range, even if it is short. Would you be able to mine it was a normal pickaxe and still stand far enough away for it to not hit you?
 
Creative additions, particularly the Blister Mine (would give me a reason to watch my back in the Crimson). Would the Hallow receive any potential traps come Hardmode? :)
 
How about mushrooms/flowers that give the confused debuff?
If mushrooms and flowers ever become dangerous, it would have to happen in the Corruption before anywhere else.

I was thinking of something like a fairy ring.

pixies and unicorns can do damage why not flowers and mushrooms? The biome hazard for the hallow has to be cute.
 
I'll get the Crimson one out of the way first. Blister Mines would grow in Crimson grass, which explode and deal 18 damage when stepped on by a player. They also inflict the Ichor debuff for 2-3 seconds, mostly for effect. (If Ichor gets changed to increasing damage taken rather than reducing defense, then I would be confident in having it inflict Ichor for 3-5 seconds instead.) Blister Mines will detonate when mined with a Pickaxe.

Also, while we're handing out debuffs, Corruption Thorns would inflict Weak for 15 seconds and Jungle Thorns would inflict Poisoned for 4-6 seconds. Just because I feel like they should be doing something that lasts beyond touching them. Thorns are usually poisonous, anyways.
These effects are harsh but I'm a Terrarian, I could do it!
 
I made a similar thread a while back on the old terraria forums, but for just the crimson. I like this one though. :)
 
Ok, this idea is good, but you should think about it this way.
So thorns are a hazardous object that hurts when touched, disappear when touched, and are destroyed when hit with a weapon of sorts.
Now, what you are asking to do is to add things in the game that basically are hazards, and I support having different hazards in each biome; however, the way you want to do it sounds significantly harder to accomplish for the Hell biome, as a random trap that goes off without wires or some pressure plate? Going of while flying above it in mid air? You have to think; hell is already very dangerous with all the lava. Maybe it doesn't need another trap.

Besides that, though, I think everything else sounds very interesting and should be added.

Volcanic Blocks. Patches of this would form throughout the Underworld, slightly less commonly than Hellstone does. It may not look harmful, but in its natural state, stepping on it will cause it and all others connected to it to ignite into

Active Volcanic Block after a small delay, dealing as much damage on contact as Lava (the same way Hellstone and Meteorite used to work), inflicting the Burning debuff while in contact and giving the player a lingering On Fire debuff. Nasty stuff! It deactivates 5 seconds after becoming active.
 
Ooh, hot. That sounds like a pretty nasty thing to step on. Pose any threat to Hellstone mining?
 
Would Volcanic Blocks be triggered by enemies? In that case, they would also be very useful.
