It depends. There are some examples of opposite where vanilla weapon being crafting material to a Calamity weapon is stronger than its modded upgrade.
For example here are stats of Calamity-modified vanilla wasp gun and its "upgrade" the Swarmer. Similar situation is with Golden Shower/Cursed Flames and their common product - Everglade Spray.

While the Swarmer may seem weaker, it fires out many more bees, giving it a higher DPS. It is so good that it is viable against Dragonfolly and the Profaned Guardians, two POST MOONLORD BOSSES.

Haven't played this mod since its version 1.1-1.2 or so. It have improved since then considerably. Whopping amount of quality content which keep you engaged during all the playthrough.
Well-written lore gives soul to main characters. Earlier all those 'Draedon', 'Yharim' etc sounded pretty random. Now we have all those bits and pieces of the whole story to collect throughout the world and realise.
I played as a mage-summon hybrid, regular Expert difficulty. The amount of items is overwhelming (I see there were a lot of items even deleted recently) which I think is good as you can't physically try them all out and thus adding in replayability. Sprites are fabulous, music is magnificent especially surface astral biome and Draedon's labs themes. And, of course, a fight against Roar of the Jungle dragon playing in my head is a fight I cannot win.
Thanks for the mod! It was definitely enjoyable experience.

I don't know whether it is a bug or intended: Androomba Pal can drown.

I'm super late to the party, but wow you all have done incredible work! You've blown me out of the water, and really out of the Terrariosphere XD Very awesome stuff

I'm very humbled and honored that you had the Omniblade as a reference to me :) You all rock!

Someone else should probably take over the thread…

yeah, with what's been going on... well, i don't know what has been going on, but i do know that SOME :red: DEFINITELY HAPPENED.

Hi all, before this goes too far, I want to remind everyone that this mod thread is to discuss the Calamity mod (its items, how it plays, etc), and not any drama that may be in connection with the Calamity mod team. If you want to discuss that, you’ll need to do that on another platform. Thanks! :)

The Calamity mod team has officially stated that Fabsol has stepped down from a leadership position, and that they are deciding the best course of action. The forum staff can transfer ownership of this thread once the Calamity mod team reach out and let us know what action they'd like to take.

Well, considering the change in leadership, I do think it's relevant to consider how the development cycle and goals will be impacted - if I recall correctly, a lot of the boss design philosophy was Fabsol's. Considering how, let's be real, outdated it has gotten, actual substantial reworks to be more in line with the current zeitgeist of modded boss design might be in the cards with their exit, rather than relatively untargeted and flip-floppy approaches to adding extraneous mechanics and then removing them a couple updates later. It's not unreasonable to assume this tighter focus might extend to other systems as well.

wait what's going on.

wait what's going on.
Fabsol said something controversial and people got super mad at him. Then evidence was revealed of a bad Discord server he was on 5 years ago, and despite him apologizing for both things that happened, everyone started to hate him, so he resigned.

Ah.... Damn this is a bad month for modding in genera

Ah...

Maybe that's why I haven't gotten any responses when I was asking about Yharon the few times I asked. I'm still going to draw him, but I suppose I'll have to just stick to his current version for now.

It is a shame calamity is in such a mess right now. The name of the new update really fits. ‘What a Calamity’. I hope they get it sorted out

They are, I know perfectly well.
It was never just Fabsol, the entire team worked on it.
Fabsol often limited the team, so they are now actually more free to do whatever they feel necessary to do.

Like actually adding stuff instead of emdless reworks

I'm still going to play calamity, despite the drama. I do that a lot. I don't care too much for the developers, but I'll keep supporting the content (in a lot of cases.)
