I'm still worried about viruses. I know it is unlikely, but what if that third party accidentally installs viruses into this site?

That's not likely to be an issue, as the add-ons we use, taken from the Xenforo site, are generally used and reviewed by quite a few people over a long period of time. Anything of that significance would likely have been found by now.

Once we remove them, new tabs would need to be installed, or we'd only have 1 active tab.

And then more time would be wasted looking for softwares and shutting down the Forums to code it in.

Adding new tabs is a worry for another day, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it if the vote swings to remove the two existing tabs.

Wait, hold on, are you saying that the outcome of the poll may not be definitive for reasons that are not technical in nature?

That is precisely what I am saying. A 50.0000000000000001% majority says one thing. A 99.99999999999% majority says another. Either way, the site owners will have to weigh both the quantitative and qualitative data and make a call. One extra person on one side or the other doesn't invalidate the other side....and in a vote this close (I'm pretty surprised tbh), then judgement comes to play.

One vote more signifies that more people concur with one side of a decision than another. One more real thinking person agreed that that side should win. "One more person" is a lot more than one more person. If the owners think they should weigh in on the matter I am not opposed, but if it's on a tie breaker that's not a tie I'd be annoyed.

It's useless, I don't see a reason for it to stay.
It highlights the behavior that people think is optimal in the community. And no matter how small, it signifies importance and respect amongst those members. Something little to be proud of.

Again, removing it because something has the POTENTIAL to POSSIBLY encourage (not force) something to happen is just as silly as removing the whole internet because there's a chance your kid could find porn.

I don't see how this can be effectively used in any way and it doesn't really seem like it has a true purpose, therefore we can just as easily function on these forums without the feature.

I personally don't see a way of benefiting from it other than just bragging.

[Strangely enough, that was my opinion]

YES - I am also for removing them, they just sit there and some people just use their likes as a competition and a way to look popular. We also barely use the Trophy Points system, but I like my titles, so I hope that stays.

I am respected and well liked enough in a community because of my behavior and actions and earned a place in a miniature hall of fame?

Again, this forum doesn't have much of a necessary propose either. Maybe it would be more technically appropriate if it were just a support forum so that relogic could help customers.

We can always get to the forum's purpose or lack thereof after this poll is over. The only reason this is even a thing is because of past conversations being brought up (even though people claim they never happened sometimes). It's happening and there is no telling which side will win or if the poll even matters. It's something to do while we wait for the next update instead of sniffing people's art.

Then WTF is the point of us voting if the admins are gonna go "Oh, it's a close vote... screw the vote, we'll do what we want instead"?

Can you tell me what the point of that even is?

Why even vote, then?

EDIT: I also like how this wasn't even mentioned in the original post, that the vote could be overridden by the admin staff if they so pleased by some arbitrary method like opinions of certain people, or whatever.

It's essentially like saying, the poll is meant to be a way of collecting data, not a definitive choice.

Really? Then why did @Tunnel King say this in the OP:

In the unlikely event of a tie vote, the tabs will remain as they are.

He didn't say "This vote is only to help us to decide" he didn't say "the vote is only to collect data", he didn't say "in the event of a tie or near-tie, we'll make our own decision".

No, he said "THE TABS WILL REMAIN AS THEY ARE" in the event of a tie.

And who exactly are the owners of these boards? Redigit? Cenx? Unless they hide with alts, they almost never participate in the community here in these forums, so it'd be absolutely silly for them to make some arbitrary decision on something that doesn't even affect them, especially if they go against the popular vote here.

Not to blindly defend the developers, but they actually do read the forums fairly often, even if they only post rarely. It's not like they have no idea of what is going on here, so, Yes; they participate.
