The Pulse Emitting Welder (the P.E.W for short) is a specialist ranged weapon sold by the Mechanic for 26 gold in Hardmode. It resembles a large welder like cannon. Pulsating Batteries, which are used by the device, are also sold by her, for about 10 silver each, once you have it in your inventory. I'm sure you could craft them by hand on your own. One battery fires the weapon for 5 seconds.
The P.E.W. fires lightning bolts consistently at a decent range. This weapon deals about 25 damage a second, and causes most regular enemies to be Electrified and shocked for a while.
The Pulse Emitting Welder has a unique property, however; it deals much more damage to mechanical bosses, at 50 damage per second, and giving these bosses the Disabled effect on occasion, which disables their attacks and turns them off for a short period of time. This allows you to effectively cheese these bosses and get some free hits. The only drawback is that the range is not too large, and the ammunition can be expensive. Another drawback is that the boss will create a shock aura if you are too close to it when it reactivated.
