Builds TerraMonolith's 1.4 Journey builds (vanilla Terraria, no mods)

I am wondering how you did the irregular shading on the sandstone wall? I would like to know…I’ve been upgrading my skills lately.

Edit: Guessing but is it merely actuated sandstone? Those shapes dont look normal to my eyes…

Right now I am trying to make a cool build on my world and I want to take inspiration from your build. I was wondering what block you used behind the slab and on the doorway to the temple.

Edit: Thank you for the help! I was also wondering what the dark brown pillar-like block that is to the left and right of the brown stair case in the middle was. I was thinking its an actuated block painted brown.

Glad that you liked the build  So, in both cases it is a mixture of walls and platforms (that creates the overall "look")
  • Staircase background is Xenon Moss Brick Wall: Xenon Moss Brick Wall , while the stairs are made from single tiles of Honey Platforms: Platforms , with a lot of Sandstone Platforms between them. Everything is painted Deep Yellow.
  • Doorway - that is Lava Moss Brick Wall: Lava Moss Brick Wall , but the effect here is due mostly to the Stone Platform to the left (which also has Lava Moss Brick Wall behind it) and the Obsidian Wall: Lava Walls to the right. Again, everything is painted Deep Yellow.

All these builds look so sick and I have no idea how you do it, @TerraMonolith. Very impressive!

I lack creativity and skills, and even though I can look at these and see individual details, it's really hard for me to know how to get from the bog standard wooden box to... that. Too overwhelming and don't know where to start. Also, I play on PS5, so building is time consuming, and practical things are hard too, like being able to reach places in the early game. Then I see something I want to change, and then need to tear through 10 blocks or whatever just to reach it. Can be frustrating when you don't have a "masterplan" in your head.

Sadly I lost the previous worlds, characters and even achievements when the PS5 tray died and I tried everything to fix it, which eventually was a total factory reset. Ooops. Got a new PS5 now, but am back at square one in Terraria. Welcome to Chateau de Suckage

At least I didn't build a shoebox complex this time, so it's easier to redo, but I need inspiration and skills lol. This is sooooo hopeless! 😭

Thanks m8, I'm glad that you like the builds! Just keep building and experimenting and you will go far beyond the "wooden box" in no time. Also, watch how other ppl are making their creations - it saves an insane amount of time and is invaluable aid in figuring out techniques. Khaios, BlueJayT and TommyTsunami are the first that I usually recommend, you can find their works both here on the forums and on youtube.

Thank you for the recommendations  Have seen a lot of Khaios in the past, and he's so incredible that it gets a bit overwhelming tbh. 1000 small details that I wouldn't be able to reproduce -- also because I'm on PS5 so would have to work from memory of watched videos. But main thing I can actually do from his is the idea of false foundations. Found TommyTsunami and watched the tutorial videos yesterday, so that was good. And now I know of JayT as well. Found this nice video, and will see what more I can find for inspiration.

I like videos where you pros are using 'normal' materials instead of all the master creations with hardmode stuff, paints all over, and even actuators and stuff like that. It's more relatable, and feels more realistic to implement or copy. I also do this in played worlds, as opposed to Journeymode, so it's very different in that way. I can't just fetch 9999 of X or Y

Have built an outline that is perhaps too big, but I liked the idea of trying to make a big flag. Then maybe the crafting stations under ground or something, since it must be kind of large. Once I get more materials, I'll try to build more of it and see how it goes. It's why I'm hunting for videos about roof designs and things like that, since I tend to always struggle with that.

Anyway, thanks for all the help you and others share on the forum and youtube. It's invaluable for the more creativity-challenged of us 🤣

My favourite build is the Castle Valtara, pretty cool how you took inspiration from an already cool game and then turned the pretty mundane dungeon entrance into the basement of a huge crazy castle.

I have an idea for a few other builds that could be cool if you like heroes 3 like turning the underground dungeon into a huge necropolis or else a jungle temple revamp.

These tutorials are really helpful! I learned a lot just from building the spawn house. I'm on Xbox so this is extremely difficult for me, but I am managing well with a decent glitch :guidewink: I really like the Castle Tower build above the Dungeon. Heroes 3 has always been a huge favorite of mine so I'm going to try doing a different town that matches the biome better. Perhaps the Conflux would look nice.
Lol I'm doing all of this with a Drunk seed on Master difficulty so the Dungeon build I plan on doing will be another challenge for me.

Thanks m8, and I'm glad that you like the tutorials! Also, it is good to meet someone that still enjoys the classics  Good luck and don't forget to post the Conflux build, I'd love to see it 👍
