Greetings Terrarians!

We hope everyone is enjoying the summer months and getting some much-needed time in the sun. Don't worry, Terraria will be waiting for you when you come in from the heat! We are closing in on the last stages of 1.4.5 development, and we hope that we will be able to have the latest version of Terraria in everyone's hands soon. Beyond that, we have seen several cool things come out lately - from the new minifigures to the Terraria Board Game announcement - and we expect to have a few more fun bits to share in the coming months. We love seeing cool stuff get made that expands and expresses the world of Terraria in different ways, and we hope that you are as well. With all that said, let's get in to the latest and greatest surrounding all things Terraria!

TERRARIA 1.4.5 - ENTERING THE (HOPEFULLY) FINAL STRETCH

We really enjoyed everyone's detective work on last month's spoiler. You all went way beyond even what we have come to know and love about the community in regards to the dissection of spoilers! The team is in the final push towards the end of content additions and turning a more careful eye towards fixes and balance for the remainder of 1.4.5's development cycle. This phase is always tough to predict timing-wise, as it really depends on how many issues we find and how hard they are to address. That said, we do not think it will be much longer until we will be able to provide a more definitive time window.

Of course, if you don't have Terraria yet - or you know someone who doesn't - there is no better time than right now to pick up a copy while Terraria is 50% off during the Steam Summer Sale!

That said, we would be remiss if we didn't share some of the things that we worked on this past month... so enjoy!

Character Creation 145.jpg

Some changes to the character creation screen shared on r/terraria a week or so ago - in case you missed it. We are already making a few tweaks to this coming out of feedback from that post, but hopefully this will be a nice change for everyone that will allow you to make your character even more your own!

145 Seed Menu Sunset 3.png

Everyone loves World Seeds right? Well, it is our guess that everyone does - except that a ton of folks who are not immersed in our news posts or the wiki might have no idea they even exist. So, we gave them their own menu to up the accessibility.

Know what else would be cool? If you could combine special World Seeds. What if some of those combinations might also have special hidden effects?

Oh, and the sun effects are a work in progress. Just saying.

Hello everyone!

1.4.4 Preview continues to be live on Steam for modders to port with. We strongly encourage all modders to update their mods and post the updates to Steam in a timely fashion. For more information on accessing the Preview build, please check out tModLoader guide for players

We are excited to see our modding community is already more than half way to our 60% porting effort target! As a reminder, we are waiting to changeover tModLoader to 1.4.4 as the default option until the majority of mods have posted a 1.4.4 version.

Please note that 1.4.4 will NOT replace 1.4.3. 1.4.3 will continue to be available in full through Steam Beta options, just as 1.3 is today.

As always, we kindly request that we all respect modders' time and not hassle them about porting to 1.4.4. Please be respectful as we all wrap up this big jump forward Please stay tuned, and thank you for your patience.

tModLoader Steam Workshop - New Mods every Day!
TML SW Banner.png
The TML Steam Workshop has over 4500 mods already! Coupled with the in-game mod browser, the TML Steam Workshop is a great way to explore what modded Terraria has to offer - check it out today by clicking the banner above!

WHAT'S NEXT FOR TML?

Finally, we are deep in groundwork conversations and changes to support offering 1.4.4 broadly. We will announce some of these details in the coming weeks in our Discord and on Steam. You will want to stay tuned for that!

As always, you can keep track of the current progress and much more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)

Developers who are willing to contribute may do so by doing PRs to the tModLoader/tModLoader branch. (See tModLoader/tModLoader)

CONSOLE & MOBILE - DR STUDIOS

Over on the Console/Mobile front, we remain hard at work keeping pace with the PC side while doing the best we can to track down any remaining bugs/fixes from the last update. We hope that the patches we sent out already have helped out - but we are still taking and reading reports, so keep the information coming. As a reminder, this is our current focus list for any additional fixes:

KNOWN ISSUES WITH FIXES UNDERWAY

Multiplayer not working for some users on Xbox - the latest backend updates seem to have cleared this up for almost everyone. The only exception seems to be players with bad connections with each other. We are seeing if we can force the system to allow connection anyway, but not sure if this is possible.

Issue where the game freezes suddenly for PS4 users - We are working on a hotfix for PS4 with a couple of reported crashes being fixed. This should be available shortly. We're still looking at the PS4 Freezes people are experiencing although we haven't pinned it down, we're looking at the water quality as a possible culprit, if you're having trouble with freezing, try turning down the water quality setting while we continue to investigate as a few players have mentioned this has helped.

Old save data not showing anymore for some Xbox users - we are still exploring this. We are almost certain that the data is not lost, just not accessible for some reason. We are still working to replicate this internally, so hang in there!

Now, we haven't had a Mobile spoiler in a while - so let's rectify that now! First of all, the changes to Character Creation have made their way to Console and Mobile...
Sunrise.png

But wait, there's more! Last month, the PC side showed off the icon images of a few whips. Well, why don't we look at a couple of those in action? Introducing the Soulscourge and Vasculash!

TERRARIA MERCHANDISE UPDATES

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATES

In case you missed it, several Terrarians got a unique opportunity to stop by the UK Games Expo to check out the very early in-development version of Terraria: The Board Game last month! The lead designer from our friends at Paper Fort Games had a great time interacting with everyone and listening to your valuable feedback! All of that will be taken back and considered as we continue to evolve and polish what this board game can become.

We’ll be sharing more about Terraria: The Board Game with you via designer diaries in future State of the Game updates, but in the meantime, we have something quite terrifying to reveal…

WoF WIP.png

The image above is an early 3D render of the Wall of Flesh miniature. We want Boss battles in the board game to feel like an event - just like they do in the digital game - so Bosses will spawn when you fulfill the criteria shown on doors of an advent calendar. Once spawned, you’ll open the door to reveal the miniature, then add it to the board. As you can see, Bosses are modular, with pieces that can be removed or manipulated in other ways to allow Boss stat tracking. We’ll be revealing more models over the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled!

If you haven't already, sign up here for the latest information!

In case you missed the big reveal, be sure to take a minute to read our post about Terraria - The Board Game, which contains details about timing, how it will be sold, and more!

TERRARIA GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES

We finally have some timing around Book One and the rollout of the issues that will make up Book Two. We expect that Book One will be available sometime in early 2024 (long story short, we need to line up with retailers' desired timelines), while we will see the story continue with the release of Issue 5 and more later this year. Of course, that is all subject to production lead times and whatnot - but we are confident in the changes that we have made from the lessons learned during the initial rollout. We expect a much smoother and more predictable release this time around!

Speaking of folks that encountered those issues, we have chased down every report that the team knows about as of this point. There are a handful in process, but everyone should be taken care of as of now (or very soon). However, if you have any outstanding issues with your order, we do not want to miss you - please reach out to [email protected] immediately so that we can take care of this ASAP. Feel free to let us at Re-Logic know via [email protected] (we have been able to help several folks) if you are having any issues as well, but the 50amp email above should be the best way to sort out any stragglers out there!

The art team remains hard at work on Issue 5, and we expect to have our first draft soon! We have one last member of the Goblin Army to show off this month... and maybe we will be able to give a sneak peek at a former member of the Goblin Army next time. I wonder who that could be?

I'm really excited to see how the seed list and combining them will work!
That was not something I expected to see added. A great choice ^_^

Now that I get a better look at last month's whip, it kinda looks like an eel. Very cool.

Edit: Welcome Vasculash, that makes 6 whips this update now. Very happy \o/
I notice they have pretty... different physics in those gifs. Wonder if that's intentional...
Also, surely this all means at least one new minion too :p

The new corruption and crimson whips look sick! I can’t wait to start a new summoner run when this update comes out.

Also when will the secret seed menu be unlocked? Will it be available as soon as a new player opens the game or will there be a prerequisite like defeating the Moonlord? I feel like offering it to new players right off the bat might cause some issues.

Being able to COMBINE World Seeds, picking and mixing how you like?

GIMME DAT. Like, yesterday.

I like Drunk World, but yet I discovered how awesome it is to play on celebration mk10 and I kept thinking to myself, man, I really wish I could have both.

From the start. No need to deny folks the chance for the fun up front - plus, if you have already played a lot on one platform, why require you to unlock it all again on a new one?

You have to purposely choose to play anything other than vanilla, so caveat emptor I suppose.

I didn’t even consider experienced players starting on a different platform. However, I still think offering the secret seeds to brand new player might overwhelm or confuse them. Maybe the menu could unlock after defeating Moon Lord or inputting a secret seed yourself. That way seasoned players can unlock the menu as soon as they start on a different platform while making sure new players aren’t faced with a seemingly big choice. Regardless, it’s really cool we’re getting the option to mix and match seeds!:dryadhappy:

It isn't on the main worldgen screen - you would need to click into the seed menu to see what is shown.

A new player can just create a normal world just as before.

Arguments can be made on both sides of course (and we had the same debate), but we ultimately erred on the side of accessibility.

I can always respect trying to make things more accessible for everyone and the fact the new options are in a sub menu is probably enough to not overwhelm new players. It’s super cool to hear ya’ll already had this discussion and is just another example of how much you care about us players. <3

I still find dumb the removal of gender buttons from character creation screen, that was really unnecessary.
Seems like it turned into a body type a and body type b thing.
And I believe the voice option is also related to that too.

But I do like that world seeds can now be picked separatedly, which will also make seed picking for them possible too.

Nice seed menu!
could there please be a way to name the world (file) as the seed?
E.g. Currently if you name the world like the seed e.g. 3.2.1.42 the data file would be named like 3_2_1_42
So e.g. could either be points allowed at the file name or 3_2_1_42 also a valid way to input the seed 3.2.1.42
Would be nice, Thanks!

Now the remaining question is: will this be the cross-platform update everyone has been waiting for?

If the secret seeds are being made into something more akin to world options with no required unlock, it feels kind of weird for them to be in the seeds menu instead of on the world creation menu. Will it be made clear somehow that they are not the standard gameplay experience?

Here's an idea for a basic seed: a seed that's always raining and sandstorming 100% of the time.

Love the whipping animations for the new whips. Feels like some more variety and they feel kinda creepy. Wonder what the eel thing will look like.

Aight so I haven't seen anybody talk about this yet, so I'm going to point it out:

If you look closely behind the word game, there looks like a clump of green objects tied to three balloons. Thought it was a couple of green balloon slimes grouped together but that doesn't seem to be the case.
