Items The Rest of the Fishing Crates

Aceplante

Official Terrarian
I think there should be more crates throughout terraria for all its unique weather events. Rather than posting these all separately, I suppose I can just post them all at once!

Goblin/Ogre Crate: Spiky balls, a goblin themed painting, and very rarely the harpoon. Also a good early game source of arrows? Obtained while fishing during a goblin invasion. Hardmode variant would be the Ogre crate.

Frosty Crate: Drops the snowfellas painting (10%) and snow blocks? Obtained while fishing during the frost legion.

Frozen/Pumpkin Crate: for the frost and pumkin moon respectively. Both can yield the weapons you normally get from fighting enemies, plus pumpkin crates also drop spooky wood/pumpkins

Pirate Crate: Contains golden furniture and the weapons such as cutlass/pirate staff/coin gun, but not the lucky coin, gold ring, or discount card. Obtained by fishing during the pirate invasion. For texture, black with a skull and bones ofc!

Lihzard Crate: Drops a few temple blocks (currently non-renewable), that lihzard king painting (10%), and very rarely a power cell (2%), as an alternative to waiting around for a lihzard general. Obtained from fishing in the temple post plantera.

Eclipse Crate: A better way of getting those solar eclipse paintings, which currently just drop from random enemies even if you don't want them. Obtained from fishing during solar eclipses. This one could also have a chance to drop eclipse weapons, since unlike Martians which require nearby NPCS (and despawn if you move away from them allowing you to get the weapons easily with little hassle if they were included in that crate), during eclipses you will always be annoyed by enemies, so if you can manage to fish long enough to get a crate, you deserve that chance.

Antigravity Crate: Conduit plating, maybe a few new Martian themed paintings, and rarely the Martian costume set? Obtained by fishing during the Martian invasion.

Lunar Crate: A crate very rarely fished up anytime during the solar events in addition to the regular biomes crates, giving you a few lunar fragments of one of the remaining pillars/closest one? A slow but reliable way to get fragments without having to kill the lunatic cultist and fight moonlord every time. If this seems too op, we could make it only able to be fished up within enemy range of the pillars.

All of these would also provide an opportunity to add new event related items, only obtainable by fishing?

And of course, a Blood Crate (blood moon fishing crate), Honeycomb/Hive Crate, Mushroom/Fungal Crate, Space/Void Crate, and Slimy/Oozing Crate as described in those posts.

Yep. Good idea.
When I first saw this post my first though was "but there are already HM crates"

This sounds like it works. You did forget to list the Goblin Crate drops, though I imagine it’s just spiky balls and harpoons. Though arrows would work too with the archers and all.

I got busy in real life and never got around to adding those, but yes basically

The only one of these ideas that I think has merit is the Eclipse Crate, and even that is iffy. None of the other events deserve them, and the Temple isn't considered a biome, so unless you're also proposing that it be made one and given other unique fishing mechanics, then I don't think it should have a crate. The Eclipse Crate is fine on paper, but there's so little that actually should be dropped by it that I don't think it's worth it.

The dungeon has a crate, so why not the temple? Plus it would make the temple bricks renewable

As I said clearly in my comment, the Temple is not considered a biome.
and the dungeon is? They're both structures so I don't see any reason why not to add a crate

Yes the dungeon is. If you have the Torch God’s Favor, the dungeon has bone torches while the temple has jungle torches.

Temple is treated as a jungle biome

No support. You shouldn't fish during Invasions. Only Solar Eclipse fishing makes sense.

But why NOT add these crates? You don't have to fish if you don't want to, and I'm well aware it would be inconvenient and difficult to make time to do, but that's the whole point. This is another way of getting the items, plus the crates would look cool.

Edit, I somehow forgot about the frost and pumpkin moons, now added. They both provide an alternative way of obtaining the weapons, at a higher chance, which is balanced becuase it will be difficult to make time to fish if you're constantly swarmed by difficult enemies.

Sorry, but I still think everything except Mushroom crate is reduntant. This is my opinion.
But mushroom crate is a must have. This biome itself is kinda hollow.

Somehow forgot a pirate crate. I think thats all the events?

This part I don't support at all. You shouldn't lock items behind fishing during an event. The point of an event is to fight the enemies that spawn to complete them, and if you lock items behind fishing, you're forced to go through a very tedious process to get them. There's no need for a frost legion crate, you don't exactly have anything unique dropping from them.

The point of the frost legion is to get Santa in your world for Christmas. I could go on and explain why fishing during the rest of the events isn't worth it, but I'd rather not.
