Do the pumpkin moon!
There is a multitude of reasons why you should do the pumpkin moon:
1) Great armor that gives giant bonus damage
2) One of, if not, best whip in the game. The crowd control abilities and the projectiles that pierce with armor penetration is insane. It melts bosses (e.g. lunatic cultist less than 30 sec kill with semi optimized set-up in classic but then again its classic)
3) Accessories that are a two in one: I forgot the name of this accessory, but you combine is w/ another accessory and gain 15% increased summon damage and +1 minion, doing what both the summoner emblem and then pygmy necklace does in one. Oh, and it stacks i think so even more damage.
Although rather difficult, you can do it before golem and get the whip (although i had to optimize). I recommend fighting twins for the bars because you likely have many lens lying around and if your farming for the rod of discord you likely have hundreds of souls of light lying around. You can get loads of iron bars by buying anvils from the merchant and shimmering them for many bars as of 1.4.4.9 (i hope this doesn’t get patched). Get the pumpkins from either reaching high waves from pumpkin moon beforehand (and getting them to spawn in a one day window of time), playing during the halloween events, or buying seeds from the dryad. Finally, make sure to get the ectoplasm in the dungeon (while your at it get the whip as well from there to help with the grind).
Anyways, this is just my suggestion after doing summoner for the first time (and beating it) in my 1300 hours of experience. I’m sure there are even better ways for doing things but my recommendation os to never skip the pumpkin moon. I get that tiki armor is ok but spooky armor just makes everything so much easier, although it is a pain in the butt to get.
If any of the better terraria summoners want to add or suggest something, feel free to comment.
