Sprites Throwing Atlatls (early game)

I had a cool idea for a throwing weapon for the early game that works like the bone glove (automatically throws throwing weapons)

Behold! Atlatls. If you don't know what an atlatl is I shall give a brief explanation. An atlatl is basically a stick with a notch at one end, atlatls were used by early humans thousands of years ago. The back end of a spear would go in the notch at the back of the atlatl, the thrower would hold the other end of the atlatl with their pinky finger and their ring finger, the thrower would also hold the spear with their other fingers. The thrower would then swing the atlatl forward while letting go of the spear which propels the spear with much, much more force than normal. These "spear throwers" helped out a lot when hunting animals, and they can help out with killing slimes too.

One for every wood type. Each atlatl is crafted with 10 of any wood.

Each atlatls stats would be the following.

Wood - +5 throwing damage and 10% throwing velocity
Mahogany - +7 throwing damage and 15% throwing velocity
Boreal - +7 throwing damage and 15% throwing velocity
Palm wood - +7 throwing damage and 15% throwing velocity
Shade wood/Ebonwood - +9 throwing damage and 20% throwing velocity
Pearlwood - +12 throwing damage and 25% throwing velocity

Atlatls will only effect throwing spears and javelins, other throwing weapons like shurikens will not benefit from the Atlatls.

There would be four different types of throwing spears you could craft.

Crude throwing spears.

Crafting: 3 wood 2 stone = 2 crude throwing spears

5 throwing damage
average velocity
slow speed
average knockback

Metal tipped throwing spears

Crafting: 3 wood 1 iron bars = 2 Metal tipped throwing spears.

9 throwing damage
average velocity
slow speed
average knockback

Jungle Hunting spear

Crafting: 3 rich mahogany, 1 stinger, 1 vine = 3 jungle hunting spears

12 throwing damage
average velocity
slow speed
average knockback
good chance to poison

Bone javelin

Crafting: 5 bones, 1 spike = 5 bone javelins

16 throwing damage
average velocity
slow speed
average knockback

Crafting: 20 bones at a bone welder

+15 throwing damage and 30% throwing velocity.

After tearing down the Wall of flesh and entering hardmode a new plant will grow all over the world.

The rubber plant. This plant will grow on the surface and can be found randomly like strange plants, rubber plants will be much more common though. These rubber plants can be combined with other materials to make the first hardmode throwing armor, the hazmat armor.

The hazmat armor will be made with rubber, iron/lead, and a bit of glass.

Hazmat helmet - 7 defense +10 % throwing velocity, crafted with 10 rubber, 2 iron/lead, one glass block.
Hazmat suit - 8 defense +10% throwing damage, crafted with 15 rubber, 5 iron/lead.
Hazmat pants - 7 defense +10% throwing damage, crafted with 15 rubber.

Set bonus: +20% throwing damage and velocity, +20% chance to not consume thrown items and ability to throw alchemy flasks (not imbuement flasks.)

Next I will explain the alchemy flasks.

From left to right, sticky flask, explody flask, freezy flask.

The sticky flask is crafted with 5 gel, 10 cobweb, 1 rubber, and a bottle of honey. The sticky flask will inflict the slow debuff on all enemies in a 4 block radius from where the flask hit the ground, the "sticky" will stay in that area for a second before disappearing.

The explody flask is crafted with 10 gel, 5 gunpowder, 1 hellstone, and an empty bottle. The explody flask is basically an upgraded molotov.

The freezy flask is crafted with an empty bottle, and 5 liquid nitrogen (bought from goblin tinkerer/maybe demolitionist.) The freezy flask will freeze all enemies in a 3 block radius.

Now I give you... The splitter

One splitter is crafted with: 3 iron bars, 1 white string at a microscope (new crafting station)

The splitter looks like a metal ball right after being thrown. About half a second after being thrown it will split into three metal blades connected by string. This deadly weapon has infinite pierce and will make hamburgers out of enemies, players, and bosses alike. BUT the splitter does 0 damage if it hits an enemy before splitting so it only works at long range.

There is also a jungle variant of the splitter with stingers to poison enemies and double the pain and horror, can it get more brutal?

Crafted with 3 stingers, 3 iron bars, 1 vine at a microscope.

Now, the microscope (like candles, microscopes can be placed on workbenches, tables, shelves, and platforms.

Crafted with 5 iron bars, 1 gold bar, 2 lenses, 5 cogs (rare loot from gold chests.)

The microscope is a new crafting station used for ultra precise production of small objects like splitters, I will post new things in the future that will also be crafted using this item.

Slingshots. early to late game throwing tools.

The crude wooden slingshot is crafted with 5 of any wood and 1 vine (the closest thing to rubber in prehardmode.)
this slingshot works like the atlatl but uses seeds as ammo (i am not sure if this actually counts as a throwing weapon or a ranged weapon.)
7 throwing damage and high velocity

The next slingshot is the professional slingshot, crafted with 5 iron bars and 3 rubber.
This slingshot is an upgraded version of the original.
25 throwing damage and very high velocity

Now an accessory.

The mechanical arm

Crafted with 1 mechanical glove, 10 iron bars, 5 rubber, 5 cogs, crafted at the microscope.
throw two items at the same time, second item has +10% throwing velocity.

So it's sorta like a bow but with throwing damage? I'd also assume that use time would be sacrificed for damage if you were to compare the weapons.

Anyways, cool idea.
 
I'm pretty sure only the Nahuatl, Mayan and Aboriginal people used the Atlatl, hence the name.
But this is a really nice addition! Maybe add more kinds of Atlatl for the later game? The hoplites should drop the Ankule, a similar item to the atlatl (a greek spear thrower). I support this anyhow :p
 
Rather than keeping it early-game, it should be used to expand Throwing weapons by making it so that the Atlatls and other Throwing-related items act as their method of progression instead of directly using the weapons themselves to progress, althrough they should act as accessories instead in order to give them a slight drawback.

I might add special rare atlatl like drops for other enemies but I want to keep atlatls in the early game because it just wouldn't make sense to use an atlatl, something used thousands of years ago by early humans against aliens like the moon lord or mechanical worms. Atlatls just seem like an early game thing. But I might add other throwing weapons for hardmode.

Swords and bows are also pretty ancient, and look at how you can use magical swords and bows against those same bosses (In fact, one of the weapons obtained from Celestial Towers IS a bow).

True, bows and swords are used throughout the entire game. I might add hardmode atlatls, but right now I am working on something much cooler.
 
Added splitters, hazmat armor, microscope, mechanical arm, slingshots, and thrown alchemy flasks
