A pretty good start!
You can try darker outlines (not black, usually). Just experiment to see where the balance is.

Also, I tend to get suspicious when I see three or more pixels of the same color next to each other, in my own art. I think the magic number is four, four shades of the same color. Shading is (for me) nothing more than fiddling around semi-randomly, then leaning back/squinting at the results to see if it looks about right.
