Lol, though I'm more concerned about: will the update FIX saves? Legit have to wait 3-4 minutes while the game saves, and I'm using New 3DS.
That's your personal experience. As for mine, I experience save times ranging from 5-30 seconds, New Nintendo 3DS XL.
 
Is it a bug that fishing bait is virtually impossible to fine? I've found like one worm after hours of searching and breaking surface stuff. I might have seen one butterfly in that time and no grasshoppers.
 
Since launch, we have become aware of various issues in the Nintendo 3DS version of Terraria. We appreciate your patience as we attempt to reproduce and fix these issues, but in the meantime this post will call out progress and workarounds in an attempt to keep your experience as frustration-free as possible.

We are working towards getting a chunk of the worst offenders fixed so that we can put out an update. The patch submission process on console doesn’t lend itself to putting out a quickfire barrage of ‘hotfixes’ like on PC, so we want the first update to clear up as many of the worst offenders as possible before we release it. We cannot yet give a date for the update, but will announce it as soon as we have it.

Duke Fishron does not spawn
The Duke is in there, but he’s staying hidden at the moment. We’ve found and fixed the issue that was preventing him appearing, so please be assured this is coming and try to be patient. No combination of bait will get him to appear yet, so please don’t waste any more time trying.

Angler text appears only in English
Again, we’ve found the issue and fixed this and it’ll be in the update. If you need localised Angler text in the meantime, we can put a post together telling you what you need to know. Although if you can read this, you’re probably not having any issues anyway.

Duplicate NPCs
A few of you have reported this, and we’re still trying to track down the problem. If you have duplicate NPCs appearing we apologise. It doesn’t break anything besides looking a bit weird, so please bear with us on that one. If you’re feeling cruel, you can leave the dupes to the zombies.

That Pedguin crash on the debut livestream
Not going to lie to you, this was the absolute worst thing that could have happened. The good news is that we’ve isolated the issue. In the meantime, please DO NOT move anything that has a specialist inventory slot (coins, arrows, ammo) into the main inventory. If you want to safely stow it away, move it DIRECTLY from the specialist slots to a chest. That should work okay, but won’t hurt to do a save game before attempting this interaction.

Health hearts behaving weirdly
We’ve seen a few reports of this, and we’re working on it. The good news is the issues are purely cosmetic, and the underlying health stats are working. A save and reload often rights it, but we’re working on a proper fix.

The fishing rods all show 1% power
Similar to the above, this is a visual error only. The text is wrong, but the underlying stats are correct. This is fixed and waiting for the update.

Mana goes into negative numbers
As above, a glitch in the text only. Fixed and ready for the update.

The range on spears/tridents etc extends with every repeated use
Yep, this is really happening. Enjoy it while it lasts (or not...) because this is GONE in the first update. Apologies, and hope it’s not unbalancing your multiplayer games.

Enemies still spawn in NPC towns
We’re not seeing anything odd here yet, but we’re still looking. Fences and walls should stop enemies appearing, and if you’re seeing otherwise please let us know the details. And check there’s not a gap in the background that enemies could be exploiting...

Hard Mode enemies spawning in Mushroom Biome
I’ve heard Mushi Ladybug, Fungi Bulb and Anomura Fungus mentioned, but I’ve only seen these on the surface which is normal. Is anyone seeing these underground? Is anyone seeing anything else weird in Mushroom that shouldn’t be there? Please let us know, if so.

Crash resuming after the 3DS has been in sleep mode
We’ve not reproduced this one yet, still looking. If you see this let us know, any info could help us track it. So far only one report of this, but we take crashes very seriously.

Crash in multiplayer with 3 or 4 players after 15 mins
We don’t yet see this one either, but if you have it then please let us know the details so we can narrow down the search. So far only one report of this, but we take crashes very seriously.

Problems with in-game music
We’re aware of a few issues here, and are looking into them. If you camera peek with the C-stick into another Biome, that music will trigger. Biome recognition currently works off what the camera can see rather than where the player character is placed. We’re attempting to make this work better.

NOTE: This is not an exhaustive list, and we’ll update as we go. We have focused on what we perceive to be the biggest problems, and these are our focus for the time being. More minor glitches are further down the list, but we are looking into them.

EDIT 1: I'm monitoring this thread daily, but won't have the time to respond to everyone. I can't give an exact ETA on the patch, but we are aiming to have something out at the end of January. There's no way to shortcut that unfortunately: there is a fixed period of time that Nintendo need to test and approve the update, and there's the small matter of Christmas that shuts everything down for a week. As soon as I have a date I will update you, but it's likely that I'll only know a week from release.

i have created 22 different worlds in search of flippers and other things and it seems as though they do not spawn at all in water chest at all like they should

Theres also a consitent pattern in the worlds ive generated the ocean water chest seem to only spawn on one side of the map and on many maps the ocean chest where not in the ocean but on land in towards the spawn point instead.

There is also a glitch with the mine carts i keep clipping off the track,
Id be rolling along in the underworld and shooting at monsters and the minecart would fall off the track like id had jumped off it.

And imps spawn rates are way insane i can not even build a bridge for the wall of flesh without tons of imps showing up 4&5 at a time and they teleport as soon as they shoot a fireball so its hard to get close enough to kill them

Same problem i found that they spawn underground more
 
Something i just found out, so if your angler dies you have to find him again sleeping right by the ocean.

Yeah, you're not the only one. I've only ever caught 2 worms and a few butterflies. I've never seen fireflies or the other insects.

I'm on a N3DSXL and commonly experience save times of 1-2 minutes. I've timed it many times. It's terrible =(
 
It seems that all worlds have platinum so here is 2 ways to get gold bars, might not be the quickest but hope it helps,1. You can find some in a chest (rarely) or the easiest (was able to get 57 gold bars) was useing the extracinatore. Hope this helps people who need gold.

hmm.. I guess there can be world's with gold, done over 8 and all had platinum, for the truffle to spawn you going to have to make a mushroom biome with over 4,000 mud blocks(estimated amount you need to have the world recognize it on the 3ds) what I would do is just keep making it bigger, you going to get him eventually.

im not sure if this is a feature .. but if you hold "Y" and cycle to atlease 2 yoyo weapons on the touch screen. they will stay in your hand and will throw a new one and stacks infinitely.

ps. effin hard to take pic. since i have to touch the screen, hold y button and take a photo

Finally got the Truffle! My surface mushroom biome has about 150 mushroom grass blocks with a mushroom house on it. I haven't changed anything with it all day and just randomly it finally said "Chantelle has moved in!" so obviously the game is just finicky about about when it decides to let Truffle move in!
 
Is the Mechanic's Rod not available on 3DS??? I waited until a waning crescent moon and the mechanic does not have it! The Angler is present and it's the middle of the night

Is this intentional? Presumably it's because the worlds are too small, or have I been really unlucky in not finding one?

(I found the Drax pretty early on, so I've uncovered full maps and not seen any mine carts)

Also, the bug nets don't work properly... The hit detection is way off. There are fire flies, but they don't glow, so good luck finding them, people!

I agree - the bug net's hit detection is off. I find that I have to swing it at an insect, then walk over it to pick it up.

There ARE fireflies??? I've looked DOZENS of times and never found any. So basically I should just jump around at night-time swinging my net?!
 
Yeah, when they said 'includes mine carts!' I figured they meant underground (like PC) but no, you have to craft it as far as I'm aware.

I do have some fireflies, they spawned next to my tree house (one of the big trees)

I've put about 60 hours into Terraria 3DS and I've only encountered them that once,
But I must stress it was only by luck I saw them, as they never give off light! Annoying much!

I was able to obtain over 8 firefly and over 5 lightning firefly. Firefly are hard to see or notice, yah the bug net is annoying with that little of a hit box, with the minecart (tracks) that is a 1.3 thing.

I could also find gold. For the first couple of worlds I was in, I could not find any silver or platinum ores at all. However, my latest world has silver ore, but no gold or platinum this time...

Update: I spoke too soon, I have found gold in this new world but still no silver in the old worlds. I finally have platinum ore...it was dropped by a slime

Couple (more) things I've noticed:
  1. Minecarts appear automatically when you press 'A' while standing next to a minecart track that you have crafted and placed. Minecarts are not crafted in the 3DS version.
  2. Save times seem to dependent on how much of the world you've traversed since the last save.
  3. Bait critters are less likely to spawn than on the Xbox360 version (I have both, and tested it)
  4. Even with NPCs housed in one 'apartment complex' surrounded by fences, enemies spawn more than critters.
  5. Zombies cannot open doors during a Blood Moon.
  6. A Dark Lance will kill the Wall of Flesh stupidly fast
