Right now the only way to get the carrot item is through buying the collector's edition, which is fine, but as the only option for getting a pet rabbit it's a bit archaic. From what I've read of other posts on here related to the carrot item, there's no way of redeeming the pet without using the disc which most people nowadays will not be able to do, given disc drives are almost entirely a thing of the past.
One idea my friend suggested was to give out a redeemable steam code with each purchase of the rabbit plushie, but I can easily see why that would be more hassle than it's worth (needing to contact the manufacturers for a sudden change to satisfy a very niche issue). I think even just adding a "dlc" option to the Terraria Steam Page where you can buy the rabbit pet on its own would be fine (after all it's far from the only thing you get from the collector's edition, but it IS the only non physical item.)
Of course, if there is some way of getting the carrot item that I'm not seeing then mention that.

What about people who can’t access steam?

Oh right, kind of forgot consoles exist. I'm sure there's a way Re-Logic could manage something similar with console store pages and allowing the rabbit as individual DLC. My main motivation with this suggestion though was for any kind of PC store front to have an option to get the rabbit digitally, since disc drives are largely obsolete now and afaik that's the only way of getting the rabbit pet. Console players could easily unlock the rabbit pet if they did buy the collector's edition (whether or not it's still even sold is another issue entirely.)What about people who can’t access steam?

Isn’t there licensing issues with the collector’s edition though? Like it was made for specifically Xbox IIRC

You might be right, if that's the case then I doubt anything can be done.Isn’t there licensing issues with the collector’s edition though? Like it was made for specifically Xbox IIRC

Beyond licensing issues, there's also the fact that allowing all players to get the Carrot would make the Collector's Edition retroactively less special, and regardless of how silly you think that is, the devs aren't going to want to do it.

I used to own a collectors edition disc, way back when. Nowadays I just use The Workaround to unlock the Bunny Pet because I don't wanna use the disc drive for anything.
The workaround?? Could you maybe tell me how that works?I used to own a collectors edition disc, way back when. Nowadays I just use The Workround to unlock the Bunny Pet because I don't wanna use the disc drive for anything.

Steam guide to activating the 'Collector's Edition' on PCThe workaround?? Could you maybe tell me how that works?
I would not call it a workaround but I can not think of a better description for it. The process just involves changing some things in the files. (explained in further detail in the guide)
