Biomes & Nature Add a Timer to explosive traps

Cave Cultist

The Destroyer
When activated, TNT should ignite and take like 3-5 seconds to explode, they would also light up so you know you've ignited one
This way you get a chance to escape and it wouldn't feel as unfair

I think 3 seconds would be pretty good, just to give the player a bit of time
Explosive traps have always been kinda weird to me, with the Detonator ones you can at least carefully position yourself to avoid the explosion but with the other variant you either die instantly or take severe damage. No ifs, ands or buts
Even with something like Boulder or Sand traps they still give you a chance to escape, and Geysers are also fairly easy to spot

I don't know... there's something charming about being instantly killed when stepping on a detonator. Unfair, sure, but charming.

I agree but that would soon become annoying when playing a hardcore character

Honestly, if you've played enough Terraria to feel capable of playing a Hardcore character, dying to an explosive trap is your own fault. You should be more careful than that.

I don't mean to unfairly judge your character but if explosive traps didn't exist and someone suggested them I feel like you wouldn't describe it like this

he would be like "Um no. completely unfair" then provide no alternate idea

You might be right! As things are now, though, I am biased towards some of the classic, unfair things Terraria has. It's emblematic of an old, amateur-ish style of game design that we don't see a whole lot anymore in big titles. I feel that those old things that we already have in the game ought not to be removed, just for the sake of maintaining what made Terraria charming back then, but new things probably shouldn't play into that too much, since Re-Logic is past that type of game design now and new features don't really follow that philosophy anymore. Is that hypocritical? Maybe. But that's how I feel.

Um no. Completely inaccurate.

But, seriously, the reason I don't usually provide alternate ideas in my comments is because I want to encourage the makers of the thread to come up with their own ideas. I could provide ideas on every suggestion I disagree with, but if those ideas got taken in by the original poster, it wouldn't be their post anymore. There's already enough Big Sammich on this forum, and we could do with a bit more Goblin Mage, I think.

While I would appreciate if the player had time to react to explosive traps, I do have one objection to this and it's that making significant changes to existing wiring components is probably a bad idea.
If this were to be implemented, I think it would be better to replace naturally generating explosives with a new type of explosive block with a delayed explosion. That way existing explosive mechanisms wouldn't be affected.

what about being able to get one without a timer by shimmering it and if you can craft explosives add a timer to the recipe to make it but you can still make the current kind
