If i may ask...
how do you get the patience and time for building such things? i am an animation student - if you are familiar with how animation is made, you know it sometimes takes 6 hours of hard work to produce 2 seconds of proper animation, so it is pretty tedious - and i can't seem to find the wilpower to carry on super massive builds.

a month ago, i built (started to) something the same size as yous ISF Curator. it was a wrecked, burning, semi-operational steampunk zeppelin. that thing was MASSIVE. no kidding. it took me hours to build just the shape. you could literally walk inside and interact with stuff like the weel and such... and then i lost temper with it, leaving an entire section of 400x1200 blocks unfinished, where would be the main machine room with ruined components and leaking boilers to the floor below. in the meantime, i even deleted it.

just... HOW can you stay focused? i even tried Gameiki for the sake of allways having light, no enemies to distract me, and infinite tile reach and speed, and it still felt tedious.

Well, first I make sure that I have plenty of time to spare for the build (which is why I haven't been able to build lately) so I can build uninterrupted. Once I've started building, I'll keep going until I've run out of creative ideas, or until I start feeling like it's going nowhere. When I've hit that point, I'll get up, take a couple hour break, then get back in game, and go over everything I've built thus far. For me, seeing the progress I've made towards an idea usually motivates me to continue improving on it, and usually when I go over everything after a break, I'll usually come up with a few more concepts or ideas for the build that hadn't come to me before.

I can't really answer how I stay focused, as it just happens. It's how I work. Progress spurs me on, but I couldn't tell you why I'm patient with it.

If you find building in game too tedious, you can always try TEdit. It's a third party program that allows you to build in Terraria in a sort of photoshop setting. Many builders on these forums use it beautifully. I'll use it for certain things, myself, and I find it an invaluable tool. Since I haven't had the time to really sit and mess around with Terraria for a while, I haven't bothered to find out if TEdit has been updated for 1.3, but it may be worth a look.

Sorry for the cryptic reply. I'm not certain how to answer the question >.< but hopefully you'll find the inspiration and motivation to continue your builds! ^.^

For instance, i started building something i had in the back of my mind for months a while ago: a floating castle made of crystals. now that we have crystal blocks, i can! and i just started, and it is turning out pretty awesome... and i fear it may end up like most other projects.

i will make sure to make more pauses, then.

Find what keeps you inspired to build! A lot of it for me is environment. I have different genres of music playing in the background depending on what type of build I'm doing. I always work best in a well lit room with minimal distractions. Breaks work really well for me, but they don't work that great for others. Also, if I'm feeling particularly stuck on something, I'll move onto a different build project for a while, then swap back. That's partly why it can take me a few weeks to make a build.

Every individual is unique, but I'm sure you can find your motivation! Whenever you get the urge to build something, try and figure out what puts you in that mood. If you can learn what gets your creative juices flowing, it's easier to get to that frame of mind. Happy building! ^.^

I had time to squeeze in a quick build for a request made by @Unit One for a building on the beach with a dock that he can fish from. The OP of this thread has been updated to include "The Sleepy Pelican Fishing Shack," which contains night screenshots as well.

Hey there, this build is awesome .
Also by the way I like the painted ebonwood wall and wood wall mixture in the house .
That was genius xD

Hey everyone. Logging into TCF from a library computer. I'm still alive, but my computer, sadly isn't. The past couple of months, I've been in the process of saving up to get a new one, but money is tight. Sorry I've been a ghost! Also, doubly sad that I've lost all of my worlds, so when I finally am able to play Terraria again, I won't be able to pick up any of my WiP's. Cest 'la Vie. Hopefully I'll be able to play again sooner than later!

Great, I'm so excited. I have to say, that you are like my number one inspiration for all of my builds, keep up the good work. ;3

It always sucks when your computer dies. It's good to see you are still alive. I was worried you would have been gone forever without saying a word.

Hey I saw your Sleepy Pelican Fishing shack and have been trying to build it in my single player world, but I can't figure out what blocks you used. Which ones are they? Im referring mostly to the walls and the block for the pier.

The wall pattern is a mixture of wood and pearlwood walls. The vertical beams in the walls are shadewood, while the horizontal ones are rich mahogany walls. As for the pier, the horizontal portion is rich mahogany while the support beams are livingwood blocks, and livingwood walls. The little blocks "connecting" the livingwood blocks, and the livingwood walls is hammered palm wood. Everything mentioned was painted brown. Hope that helps ^.^

Hi Pancake, I also rebuilt the Sleepy Pelican Shack in my single player world. Khaios was nice enough to design it for me when I asked for a fishing hut near the ocean. And I think it's glorious.

What I did that you might try... I downloaded the world file that Khaios provides in the first post. I went into that world and for some blocks and walls that I didn't recognize I would mine them or hammer them up to see what they were. And I made notes along the way. I went in with a pretty empty inventory, piggy bank, and safe. Then I mined up everything and took it with me to my world. I can't remember if it took just one trip or a couple. That way I had all the supplies and I rebuilt it in my world. :)

Finally back. The new computer is completely assembled, and ready for destructi...ahem, building stuff. A big thank you for those of you who sent me messages/posts periodically to see if I was in fact still breathing. I appreciate it ^.^ And thanks for being patient while I built my new computer.

For those of you who are wondering what happened to my old one, I had a very, very cheap surge protector. My house was struck by lightening, and the grounding failed, so my computer (and quite a few electronics in the house) were fried. My wife and I weren't home at the time, so nobody was hurt, and thankfully it didn't start a fire. But now, everything has been repaired or replace, and the world is right again!

Apologies to anyone who made a request before I lost everything. I'll be perfectly frank and say that I lost a lot of motivation to start those requests over when I found out that I lost everything I had started. I had some saves backed up on DropBox, but for the most part, anything that was a work-in-progress was lost.

Since I didn't have more than a couple of weeks to explore the additions with 1.3, and since I've been away from the game for a few months, in general, the plan is for me to jump right in and get familiarized with the new items I get to work with. As I do that, I'll update this thread (or maybe I'll just lay this one to rest, and start a new one--undecided yet).

Once I'm feeling more comfortable with 1.3 stuff, I'll start taking requests again! Thanks for everyone's patience! I'm glad to be back ^.^ I look forward to seeing all of you around on the forums again :D

I'm really happy you're back, and I can't wait to see what you have to build. You are my number one inspiration for what I make after all, so seeing you gone for so long was rather sad. ;>
