Making Shortswords Useful

How is this suggestion? And do you want me to make more swords?

Hello all, Derpo here with another suggestion. This one is about shortswords, and how to make them useful. I'm sure you're just about to make a comment telling me that this has already been done fifty-four-thousand times. And then you'll provide a link taking me to SZGamer's amazing shortsword thread. I've seen his thread. I've seen most of the other "buff shortswords!" threads. Thing is, mine is different. Well, sorta.

I too am one of the many people who want shortswords to be buffed, but I propose that they be buffed in a unique way.
I suggest that if a shortsword is held and the right mouse button is pressed, the sword will be thrown. The sword will travel 5 blocks further than a throwing knife/shuriken, and return's instantly to your inventory upon contact. I am also adding more shortswords.


All of the current shortswords have nothing added other than the throw. The throw does an added 5 damage to whatever the sword's base damage is (this applies only to the current shortswords).

Any secondary damage is the damage of the throw.

I suggest that if a shortsword is held and the right mouse button is pressed, the sword will be thrown. The sword will travel 5 blocks further than a throwing knife/shuriken, and always drops as an item upon contact.

Seriously who wants to fight with a not consumeable weapon, that may get lost somewhere in your inventory?

I liked the idea, but I just disliked the part that when it is thrown and hits the floor, it drops as an item, which means that another player would be able to steal it, plus make you defenseless when it's on the floor, making the weapon bad again...
I'd recommend making it have part of boomerang behavior, when it hit the floor, it flies back to the player.

If I did that, then they'd be boomerangs, not swords. But you bring up a valid point. I'll change it so it instantly returns to your inventory contact.

I'd agree, I'd say let it return to you but have something similar to the projectile firing swords where there is a wait time where you can't use the throw again BUT you can still poke enemies with it.

Supporting this as I'm doing a Bastion themed playthrough of Terarria and I have no good equivalents to the Machete. :p

This problem has been fixed. I've changed it so that the swords instantly return to your inventory upon contact.
