Items More powerful explosives

Since we've had the same set of basic explosives for a while now (bombs and dynamites), Wouldn't it be nice to get some new firepower in our arsenal of destruction?
Something that could, say, break more kinds of blocks (available, of course, after those blocks can already be broken quite easily), or maybe with some larger blast radiuses?
Whether placed or thrown, I think it would be nice (and fun) to destroy vast swathes of terrain quickly without needing the DCU (which doesn't get walls, a problem which I have encountered quite often).
Also, think of the trap possibilities... I don't think I need to explain why this would be amazing.
I can see, however, that it may be taxing computing power - destroying a few hundred thousand blocks instantly - but that actually bring me to another point. What if we had a menu to disable particle effects, item physics, complex animations, etc. - anything that could slow the game down? It would make the experience better for those with slower/older computers, or who just have diabolical plans for razing the very bedrock of their Terraria worlds to ash... Not me, others... totally...

Compared to dynamite itself, these have a slightly higher blast radius(dynamite has a radius of 7 blocks, explosives have a radius of 10 blocks.)
 
Given the implied explosive level, would this require a certain kind of launcher (ie restricted to the Celebration MK2)?

I was saying 'Explosives' as a general term for the block-breaking pyrotechnics of Terraria, and I must say that an increase of 3 blocks is hardly useful when you have to wire them up instead of simply throwing them.

You also didn't really give any specific examples as to what these explosives would look like or how they would be obtained...
 
Adding chain reactions to explosives does not seem like a good use of time, since multiple explosives can already be wired together to go off at the same time. If you want a thematic effect of one going off and then another it would work out better if you used a dart trap timer to set each off on a cascading rate.
 
Quite honestly, the only idea here that's good is explosives that can break blocks that were previously immune to explosions. We already have plenty of ways to tear apart the terrain quickly, like the DCU and the Celebration MkII, so a larger explosion radius isn't really needed anymore. But there's also the problem that most lategame mining tools will likely be as fast or even faster than explosives.
