Things that you didn't realize were in the game for the longest time?

I never knew that the lost girl was a nymph...he wrecked me :P
 
Took me a while to figure out mounts were a thing.
 
Enchanted sword...only now have I found out :P
 
A lot of the dungeon weapons. For hundreds of hours I didn't know about any dungeon loot except for the muramasa, because pre-1.2 you had little reason to go into the dungeon if you didn't care/know about said loot in the first place.
 
Only today did I discover the existence of Ice Golems.
 
I just found out today what the S.D.M.G. is, cool item
 
I just realized that you could dig up and move the Lihzahrd alter to spawn the golem wherever you want... I assumed it was something that couldn't be broken or moved...
 
Dirt rod. I don't know how, I just never noticed it in the Dryads inventory. :D
 
Copper hammer.

I always make a wooden hammer and make my next hammer out of crimtane/demonite. The -1 bonus on all the copper tools led me to ignore anything with the word "copper" in it's name; that, combined with my generally low reserves of copper, led to me not actually knowing that the copper hammer existed. I thought the copper pickaxe and the copper short-sword were the only copper weapons/tools in the game.
 
Bone platforms.

I didn't know they existed until the Halloween contest entries used them.
 
Not personally mine, but a lot of people still don't know the enchanted sword exists.

I didn't know about the rare, deep, duck quack.
 
Turtle mount, but that was more due to me taking a break from Terraria for several months after the Fishing Update. Regardless, I was still ecstatic when I found out about it. *_*
 
After looking at the wiki, I see that you can make frozen slime blocks.............................
Really ! I did not know that.
 
Well I didn't know about the Rudolph eating animation until just now, that's pretty cool. :cool:
I didn't know that the Musket was auto fire until 2 days ago, I was just lazily holding down the mouse button and suddenly it fired again! :eek:
 
Some people think Pinky doesnt exist. i found 3 in my world :D
