:sigh:Imagine you're building something big and you keep picking up random slime, shackles and banners :sigh:

THE SOLUTION: A third mode for the Encumbering Stone! (it's that kettle bell item from the Desert)
<3In this 3rd mode you only pick up items you already have in your inventory <3

So now:

You take a big stack of blocks, build with it, then destroy a part you didn't like. Blocks go back into your pocket and garbage stays out! :rslime:

You go fast mining and you only want Chlorophyte? Take one piece of it with you and the rest of inventory won't fill up with junk!

BONUS POINTS :pinky: to Re-Logic if they could manage to make it so that in this 3rd mode you right click on and item and you pick it up!

o_OComment what items always clog up YOUR inventory!! o_O

Mud and mud. I spend a lot of time in the jungle/glowing mushroom biome.

Everyone has a different opinion on what trash is. I’m all about better inventory management, but this route wouldn’t work without a big complicated UI overhaul
Thank you for your time! <3

Didn't mean to insult any item, they are all precious, sometimes it's just too much of some particular item at a wrong moment :)

I get how implementing some "auto trashing" or "filtering" feature to the inventory is a huge overhaul

But this small change to the Encumbering Stone would already go miles :rslime: And would make the item more used
Unless this kind of "autostacking of items from the ground and into inventory" is also a nightmare to code :sigh:

I feel like this is a bit redundant since having a full inventory already does that, but at the same time I've never used the Encumbering Stone (I just keep my void bag and quick stack everything lol), but implementing a system akin to that from the Auto Trash mod would be neat.

You could get a permanent buff (like the stat ones Shimmer gives) that let you mark certain items as "trash", which would then be moved to the trash whenever you pick them up.

Me when void vaults:

Guys, could you please help me understand Red's response? I'm a bit dumb

Do you think there was a misunderstanding, or do you think adding this 3rd mode to the Encumbering Stone requires overhauling the game's User Interface?

yes. The way it works right now is that it replaces itself with the locked (or unlocked) version when right-clicked (same for other right-clickable inventory items), and adding a third mode would require the devs to either have them cycle in a set order (which would be annoying) or add a new UI element to select which one you want and then select what item(s) you want to whitelist (which while possible, is a bit of a waste of time for something that's kinda niche).

i think something akin to auto-trash would be a better option, but imo the Void Bag is already the perfect solution. I'm used to dropping off stuff at my base after a bit, and being able to carry an extra chest's worth of items makes those trips far more spaced out.

though i wouldn't be opposed to a Void Bag upgrade.... could have 50 - 100% more slots.

Okay thank you! I seem to get it a bit better now!

But still there are a few things which don't align

1) There are already an items which cycles between multiple states without a problem, like the Shell Phone and the rubble maker. And there is already an item UI that is used in the Grand Design. It wouldn't seem like adding this to the Encumbering Stone is the " big complicated UI overhaul" Red was talking about

2) We aren't suggesting a system that will allow you to
select what item(s) you want to whitelist
That indeed would require a big UI overhaul. And I'm worried that maybe Red thought we're suggesting this complicated whitelisting/filtering system.
What we're actually proposing is that: with this 3rd Encumbering Stone mode active, the players inventory would act like a chest you're autostacking things to.
For example: there are dirt blocks, slime and wood blocks on the ground, but your inventory only has wood blocks in it, and so only wooden blocks get picked up. No need for a menu where you mark items for trashing or anything :pinky:

I think what OP was trying to suggest was something like Restock but with items on the ground
Items that aren't already in your inventory won't be picked up but items that already are will be
Which is a feature I absolutely need because this is problem I have constantly especially when designing farms in Journey

I like the idea of making the encumbering stone useful somehow. Maybe combine it with the void bag to make a sort of "trash bag" where all the items not in your inventory go?
