Weapons & Equip New Flamethrower type weapons

okay I moved the eruptor to the same tier as the infernocitor.
 
I like the Eruptor. I feel like it'd make things very chaotic with all those greek fires, and I like the sound of that.
 
Popping in for a quick mod update.

The obvious first step in implementing this as a mod was buffing the Elf Melter. I can tell you that the results are spectacular. The Elf Melter feels like a properly powerful weapon now; Elf Melter simply brutalized the Destroyer, defeating it in 80 seconds, whereas a Rapid Chain Gun with Meteor Shots lagged behind at 120 seconds, taking 50% longer, proving the Elf Melter's proper dominance in crowd control situations. In a fight with the Twins, the roles were reversed: Elf Melter took 120 seconds to down the pair, while the Chaingun took only 50, which shows to me that 59 base damage is the sweet spot for the Elf Melter's damage increase.

Anyways, the things you should take from this are 1) that you did a fine job at balancing the Elf Melter, and 2) it is now a helluva lot more fun to use now and is now worthy of being among other endgame weapons.

I'll keep you updated on the mod's progress in regards to this thread, so you'll hear from me when more is completed. ;)

to me, the flamethrower is an awesome weapon, though when compared to megashark, which can be considered easier to get, it falls short in dps and range. what it has over the megashark is tons of penetration. which to me still makes it good as a side weapon. so to improve the usage of flamethrowers I think 2 things should happen, give it unique ammo types, and add more weapons of this type to the game. I am not here to suggest new ammo types, if you want to see that, here is an excellent suggestion by SzGamer227 that covers that, click here to see that.

(his idea inspired mine anyways) after reading his thread, I realized that you won't really be using the flamethrower often enough to get much use out of all those ammo types, so I proposed that there needs to be new weapons, so here I am now, proposing new weapons, two to be exact! when I propose these ideas, i am basing them as if the ammo he suggested is in the game.





A couple change to the weapon type in general
-all flame throwers will have infinite penetration.
-rather than fire being completely halted by blocks, the fire particles will spread across blocks.

this is meant to be a weapon that is useful for the final stretch of pre hardmode, and into early stages
of hardmode. if there were a weapon that rivals it like the flamethrower is rivaled by the megashark, it
would be the clockwork assault rifle. though this can be obtained before the CLAR.

shall remain the same. (heh, fooled you, I DIDN'T BUFF IT AT ALL >: D)
since this is collaborative with SZ's ammo suggestion, this one doesn't actually need a buff.

shoots 3 flames at once (one directly straight, the other 2 45 degrees pointing upward and downward.
the sprite makes it seem pretty straight forward)

converts all ammo into hellfire
*assuming readers have seen the fuel canister suggestion* hellfire is basically a combination of the pressurized
steam canister, and napalm canister.what hellfire does is act like a normal flamethrower normally,
however it will also release some particles that explode upon contact with an enemy causing high knocback.
these particles will release 1-2 greek fires that linger for 3 seconds. the greek fires inflict 1/2 the base damage.
same range as the standard flamethrower
inflicts fire
crafted with 1 volcano crystal, and 1 infernocitor

volcano crystals will be dropped by hardmode hell enemies at a 3.33% drop rate.


Elf Melter
damage: 59 (buffed from 40)
knockback: .5 (just decided to round it up)
use time: 29
debuffs inflicted will last for an extra 6 seconds. (this is a more effective niche if SZ's idea was added)
"shoots ferocious flames" (projectile is 2 times wider and lingers for longer)
now were talking! this is what I think the elf melter should be to be at par with the rather insane chain gun.



feedback would be nice, suggestions to make my ideas better are always welcome.
Then make corrupt slimes drop cursed gel (makes flamethrowers fire cursed flames)
 
When I found this thread I expected flamethrowers which, instead of spraying fire and inflicting On Fire!, spray different materials, like Pixie Dust, having a chance to slow and confuse enemies, or just making Pixie Dust, Feathers, Cursed Flames, Ichor, etc... valid ammoes for Flamethrowers in general.

Making flamthrowers a more common sub class throughout the game is nice! I especially like the Third Degree, though I think it's a bit heavy having it take 2 weapons to craft. An alternative could be the Tactical Shotgun and some living fire blocks (+ Shroomite), but eeeh, that doesn't sound right either.

I want to see Third Degree to do multiple hits.

These are awesome. I like the idea of having flamethrowers through more portions of the game.

I would ask for an endgame flamethrower but I wouldn't know exactly how to execute it.

Something I was considering was having weapons that could be created with Luminite and Shards, instead of just having the ML drops. Would help people who seem to get 7 Meowmeres in a row.

This might not be the place to discuss that, though...
