Weapons & Equip New Flamethrower type weapons

to me, the flamethrower is an awesome weapon, though when compared to megashark, which can be considered easier to get, it falls short in dps and range. what it has over the megashark is tons of penetration. which to me still makes it good as a side weapon. so to improve the usage of flamethrowers I think 2 things should happen, give it unique ammo types, and add more weapons of this type to the game. I am not here to suggest new ammo types, if you want to see that, here is an excellent suggestion by SzGamer227 that covers that, click here to see that.

(his idea inspired mine anyways) after reading his thread, I realized that you won't really be using the flamethrower often enough to get much use out of all those ammo types, so I proposed that there needs to be new weapons, so here I am now, proposing new weapons, two to be exact! when I propose these ideas, i am basing them as if the ammo he suggested is in the game.





A couple change to the weapon type in general
-all flame throwers will have infinite penetration.
-rather than fire being completely halted by blocks, the fire particles will spread across blocks.

crafted with 15 hellstone bars

alternatively, it can be dropped by Lihziahrd mimics
the latter would be a better tier for it. (more of a sub tier)

crafted with 1 Infernocitor, and 15 shroomite bars at a hardmode anvil
shoots 3 flames at once (one directly straight, the other 2 28 degrees pointing upward and downward.
same range as the standard flamethrower

does not use ammo

*assuming readers have seen the fuel canister suggestion* hellfire is basically a combination of the pressurized
steam canister, and napalm canister.what hellfire does is act like a normal flamethrower,however
it will also release some particles that explode upon contact with an enemy causing high knocback.
these particles will release 1-2 greek fires that linger for 3 seconds. the greek fires inflict 1/2 the base damage.
These particles will have the same lighting effect as demon torches to make them distinguishable.
same range as the standard flamethrower
inflicts fire
dropped by red devils at a 3% drop rate after defeating the golem




Elf Melter
damage: 59 (buffed from 40)
knockback: .5 (just decided to round it up)
use time: 29
debuffs inflicted will last for an extra 6 seconds. (this is a more effective niche if SZ's idea was added)
"shoots ferocious flames" (projectile is 2 times wider and lingers for longer)
now were talking! this is what I think the elf melter should be to be at par with the rather insane chain gun.



feedback would be nice, suggestions to make my ideas better are always welcome.

I love how logical the obtainment methods are. Just wondering, though... would it be possible to make the Infernocitor a side grade to the Elf Melter instead of being a tier below it?
 
idea: Backburner, looks like the tf2 one but it isn't like the tf2 one.
dropped from crates in hardmode, deals 20 damage and is very similar to the hellraiser, but it fires a weak flame backwards as well, that deals 40 damage.

maybe possibly.
I'm not sure how that would work though, because the variance with what you can do with flamethrower weapons seems to be quite minimal stat wise.

Frostburn, obviously.... its a flamethrower made in the NORTH POLE...

However I Think you should Change the Crafting Recipe of The HellRaiser.15 Hellstone Bars Can be Easily Obtained
 
15 Bars is the average amount of Bars used in a Hellstone recipe. I think it's fine.
 
How about changing the Infernocitor to a drop from Lihzahrd Mimics? That would solve the tier issue Baconfry brought up, avoid increasing Golem grindiness, and also fill in the hole for a Lihzahrd Mimic Ranged weapon. (I've already come up with the Snake Breaker and the Sun/Solar Staff/Scepter, so this would complete the triangle.) If you say yes, it means that I can add the unique Lihzahrd Mimic loot to the main post once I make a sprite for the Magic weapon.

In my mind, it's perfect, but what do you think?
 
One thing I find odd is that I don't think Flamethrowers have infinite penetration. I'm certain that it can only pass five enemies or something when using it extensively in the Solar Eclipse this one time.

Maybe what can affect the higher-up weapons is the width of the fire that is spewed out on top of the bonus range? I, personally, would like to see more than a simple upgrade, which is why I don't like the S.D.M.G in its current state.

I like this :) however most interesting hellstone weapons require something extra (aka enchanted boomerang, hand gun)to craft, how about a slime gun? It would be awesome to turn the slime gun into a true flamethrower.

Regardless I support! Let things burn (In Terraria of course)!
 
a slight update: I added an alternate collaborative way to obtain the Infernocitor. it is still post Plantera, but pre Golem.

all debuffs inflicted by the elf melter now last an extra 4 seconds than usual.

You mean the Shroomite regular Mask? That buffs damage for the Flamethrower, if I'm not mistaken...

Also, Shroomite armor variety sucks. I wouldn't encourage it if I were you. ;P
 
The Elf Melter should get a different ability, as the increased debuff duration won´t be useful very often. It could probabily have an unusually large cone, and it should deal additional damage against Elf Copters, Zombie Elves and Elf Archers.

I REALLY wish there is an upgrade for Flamethrower or Elf Melter that uses Cursed Flame or Ichor as materials to upgrade them.
Then, you can use those weapons UNDERWATER.
