NPCs & Enemies Pinky and the Lost Girl

I would love to do more with the Lost Girl, but I don't think I would want her moving into my town. She is a mob and if she attacks when you aren't wearing that Nymph Charm charm then she could hurt your villagers if you remove it.

The way I had it in mind for the Nymph Charm to work was that equipping it would give a spawn chance for a NPC version of the Lost Girl that uses the same sprite but has Passive AI and is distinct, coding wise, from the Lost Girl/Nymph MOB that uses Bound AI/Fighter AI.
Basically, equipping the Nymph Charm would prevent the regular Lost Girl from spawning and open up a chance for the friendly Lost Girl to spawn (with her different spawn conditions) as long as it's worn.
So removing the Charm wouldn't cause her to become hostile, you would just have reequip it to get her to respawn after her duration is up (if she were a temporary NPC like the Travelling Merchant) or died (if she were a permanent NPC).

Also I think that maybe I should change this part of the suggestion because it seems kind of unwieldy :

I still like the quest part of and "finding your way" part, so instead of a Hide and Seek quest what about an Orienteering quest.

You get teleported to a random location (via a Teleportation Potion effect) and you receive a unique timer "debuff" that requires you to make it back to the Lost Girl in time to win.
Obviously using a Magic Mirror/Recall Potion or Relogging will cancle the debuff and cause you to lose. (For the sake of fun let's say that using a Teleportation Potion or a Teleporter won't cancle the debuff.)

What does everyone think, change it or keep it the way it is (or change it to something else)?

 
Interesting. Still why would the regular Lost Girl/Nymph be unable to spawn? The other lost girl is really just an NPC using her sprite. Normal lost girls would be deep underground so unless you built an underground base you wouldn't likely mistake the two of them.

As for the finding your way part, that sounds like fun. I can see why the teleporters would be far game as unless you where lucky enough to wrap near one they wouldn't be much help. Then again I built a map wide underground tunnel with a number of teleporters leading from one to the next, but not everyone does that.
 
I agree, seeing as Pinky is somewhat iconic. With the lost girl I was actually very confused the first time I encountered one, I thought it was a new NPC and when I approached her for some reason she ran off and landed in lava, killing herself.

I liked all ideas you gave, would be really amazing to see them included.

BUUUUTT! The Nymph should be "tameable", so she would permanently stay friendly no matter if you're wearing the amulet or not.

Y'know, 1 less accessory slot is too much for me

Well I wouldn't use the word "tameable" but yes, we would keep her as a friendly NPC. There would still be Nymphs in the underground but a friendly Lost Girl would move in. The ones in the underground would attack you without the amulet but not the NPC you unlocked. If there are no more nymphs you would lose the ability to get her drops.
 
yes, because the pinky and lost girl are the rarest mobs in the game, and deserve at least something special about them.
 
I think a nymph should drop an item that allows you to craft an item that allows you to find the real lost girl npc.
Craftable item version~ 1 "broken cavern globe" "a globe that shows the caverns..." 1 life crystal and 20 fallen stars.
Its a consumable. Once used a text appears saying "that which was lost can now be found"
Maybe throw in a mini boss fight? Use item to fight boss which allows you to find lost girl....
The cavern layer needs a boss anyway.

A really large dark looking pixie
can go through walls
Attacks: throws snowballs and pebbles. Charges player.
Item drop; Rod of animation. Animates nature as a summon. Damage 20
Or just make the nymph drop an item that allows you to summon one as a minion. We can summon a pirate minion and an imp, why not a fairy creature?
The lost girl NPC would be just like the old man/clothier NPC. She would become The seeker, she would give you quests...
I can't think of what she might sell.... Items to help people who're lost? Housing decorations?

[ I Finally got this done. Please give any comments/suggestions/additions/criticisms. ]


I love the rare mobs but it seems a couple of them have gotten the short end of the loot stick.

For the purposes of illustration:

Doctor Bones drops a Archaeologist's Hat
The Groom drops a Top Hat
Tim drops his Wizard Hat (a nice piece of magic armor btw)
The Rune Wizard drops his Rune Outfit
Wyverns drop Souls of Flight
Rainbow Slimes drop Rainbow blocks
The Clown sometimes drops Bananarangs AND unlocks the Clown Outfit
Frost Golems drop Frost Cores and sometimes a Frost Staff or Ice Feather
The Paladin sometimes drops his Shield or his Hammer
and Mimics and Ice Mimics drop a whole table of different loot including a pet!

On the other side:

The Lost Girl drops her banner (and we all know how rare banners are, not that it isn't appreciated)
and poor Pinky has the same loot table as every generic slime (that gold coin is nice though).

So here are some possible suggestions to rectify this:

PINKY

Proposal one- PINK GEL

Pink Gel : View attachment 3763 Drops 30 to 40. Usable as a crafting material:


Pink Slime Block: View attachment 3764 Made at the Solidifier from one pink gel. Jumping on a Pink Slime Block causes you (as well as any mobs or NPC's) to bounce around uncontrollably. Negates Fall Damage.

Bouncy Grenade: View attachment 3784 Just like the regular grenade but it bounces on contact with solid blocks, allowing for banking attacks.
Recipe: One pink gel + five Grenades (Makes five).

Bouncy Bomb: View attachment 3786 Also, just like a regular bomb but it bounces on contact with solid blocks, allowing for banking attacks. Recipe: One pink gel + one bomb.
Making things bounce sounds really fun, challenge yrimir to kill all the pre HM bosses with only bouncy grenades and bombs!
Pink Torch: View attachment 3787 Just like a regular torch but a lovely pink color. Recipe: One pink gel + three wood (Makes three).
A pink torch is actually a color we don't have, I like it.
Pink Glow Stick: View attachment 3788 It floats neutrally buoyant in water instead of sinking. Recipe: One pink gel + five Glowsticks (Makes five).
This would be very convenient, So many times I am out of torches and I throw a glowstick into a pool only to find out that the bottom of the pool is below my screen, so im left in the dark again, this would help in that situation and many more.
Peace Candle: View attachment 3783 Made from 10 pink gel and one Water Candle. When placed or held a Peace Candle decreases enemy spawning rates. Effects stack with both placed and held Candle, as well as with the Calming Potion.
Sounds nice for when your trying to build and enemys constantly spawn! GRR THAT FRUSTRATES ME!
*note Proposals Two and Three could be combined with Proposal One, with pink gel being combined with the Slime Staff and Slime Gun, respectively.*

Pink Slime Staff: View attachment 3762 Dropped by Pinky. Summons Lil' Sister Slime which, while only doing minimal damage, deals a walloping massive amount of knockback.
Basically a defensive version of the regular Baby Slime.

Nymph Charm:

Tool Tip: "She isn't a terrible person"
Accessory. Dropped by Lost Girl / Nymph. Equipping this will prevent the Lost Girl from changing into her Nymph form and allow trade with her.
It also greatly increases her spawning chance and allows her to spawn on the surface, most commonly in invalid housing.
I don't like this idea of an NPC that doesn't stay where you want it and that you have to equip a accessory for, it just seems so inconvenient

Once again, yellow, I can't really say I like it but I can't say I dislike it.
5. Gem Shot: View attachment 3782 Uses Gems as ammo (with damage based on the rarity of gem). Crossbow. Slow Speed. Shot heavily affected by gravity. 50% Chance not to consume ammo.
Splash damage like Crystal Storm/Crystal Bullet (Randomly sold)

6. Changling Cameo: View attachment 3781 Tool Tip: "Wait... what did I Summon?!"
Accessory. Equipping this will cause any summoning staff to instead summon three mischievous Changling Nymphs instead of it's normal summon.

The Changlings utilize the base damage and knockback of the staff that summoned them, but they have their
own AI. They stay within 10 to 15 blocks of the Player and won't follow enemies farther. They can jump about as well as the Player (without movement
accessories) and cannot fly. If the base summon has a projectile attack they will use a rock throw attack that's fairly short range and effected by gravity.
The Changling function mostly as a defensive summon.

If their stats are the same as the staff that summoned them then what's the point of using them? The normal AIs for each minion are just fine, actually they are better than that, they are designed to fit the minion. There is no reason to want to use this.

Lost Girl Vanity: Admittedly this might not fly, but even a Nymph wig would be neat. It could even be a "Godiva" type wig that covered all the essential areas.

Alternately an unlockable Lost Girl hairstyle from the Stylist...

I just realized, after reading your response, that I didn't give any info for what these were suppose to do. OOPS. I meant for these to work like the Staff of Regrowth, only for moss instead.

Eh, no, would be too annoying to get the ammo for, and doesn't seem like it fits terraria, don't ask why but something about it just doesn't."

I can't speak for anyone else, but between all the slush and silt that I collect and process, I'm swimming in gems by late Pre-hardmode.

(Just as a bit of insight of how I came up with the "Gem Shot", it's actually based on real life weapon called a Stone Bow which fires stone (or lead) shot instead of bolts/arrows.)

My thought process behind the Changelings (and the Lil' Sister Slime as well) were that they to act as defensive minions to protect the player, as a contrast to all our current minions that are purely offensive and just try destroy the enemy. I'm not sure how successful I was, but that was the concept.
(Also I meant for the Changlings to just teleport/zoom to you if you got too far away. I forgot to say that in the original entry as well.)

usually over 100 but 100 ammo doesn't last long with anything.

I saw your idea with the lil' sister slime but the thing is how will the changelings protect you more? If you gave them more knockback maybe but still, I don't think it's that useful, and definitely not worth an accessory slot.
