"Random Bull:red:, Go!"
oh my god the bookcase got me.

A new month, a new monthly art batch!

May was a bit silent, it may have happened.
Been taking it easier since I had a few days where it didn't went well, it's going better now though.

---Artworks---

Lately, I've gotten a dream of OCs I've not seen before.
Right after I woke up, I wrote them down and worked them out on the same day. It was quite an interesting experience:
Dream OCs textless.png

And last wednessday it happened again!! So here we go, three dream OC designs in one month, wew.

And the morning doodle of the other Mech idea I had:

a drawing that was inspired by DeviantArt's AI:
NAGERU.png

I've still mixed thoughts about AI and stuff, and this this actually ends up been my least favorite due to where the inspiration came from, but I'll leave these thoughts out for now.

Been the stats nerd that I am, with my maximum melee speed and tank survival threads from Terraria, I've also extended my knowledge to other games.
And now I see possibilities in sharing my knowledge of Age of Empires with the community, so since last year, I've started writing down tips and tricks about vision in the game, an important but rather obscure mechanic.
Vision doc.png

The Griot Bara Discord group has been appreciating my efforts in this category, as far as they've even been tagging me for anything vision related, or even making memes about it.
8q9kqw.png
For now, I've planned to expand my knowledge further.
As of now, AoE4 is rising with new players, but most players don't really know what to do or to focus on, and it may be a bit too intimidating if it comes from the Pros, so I want to fill in this gap by making an AoE4 guide myself. :)

---Gamedev---

uhh...yeah, well this is funny.
I think a flowchart summarises my progress since last month well:

image0.png

Simply put, I've too much ideas on my plate, and currently I see more use in helping out a community than making a game for myself.
Maybe an expansion of an already existing game isn't that needed, so I've been back into conflict how much content is considered a bonus, and when it's considered a new game entirely.
For now on...best I can do is to consider everything a bonus, as there's no money involved at the end, after all.

And that's all for now, have a great time playing the final first update, or last major update, final fantasy, or Paper Mario with 1000 doors or something. :D

Dream OC gang! I get those a lot, brand-new characters first appearing in dreams. A lot have stayed and some quickly became favorites of mine!

It's July already?!

Monthly Art batchhh

--Artworks---

Recently I've made an account on Pixiv to have a new place to upload artworks again. As I've been looking for something different than DeviantArt.

It started off with some of my personal favorite drawings, and then I saw the Pyra piece doing pretty well. So naturally, I wanted to follow that with a Mythra drawing as well.
(Mythra also best girl)
Myhthaaa.png

Recently also been playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 2's NG+ again, it's been a while since I've played it, and it's been a blast reminiscing it while also discovering new mechanics to really get crazy, while also pulling some of the latest rare blades too. It's been great and I've also kinda missed the game too.

It's been @MiltVala 's birthday again, so I went drawing real Cilin for him:

As well as a Floral Helena:

---Gamedev---

I've looked back at the update idea for HertenHeld again, and I think the ideas I've wanted to do were too large, almost on a scale of a new game, basically.
And I've underestimated how much work that actually would be.

So, the idea of an expansion/seperate gamemode is scrapped, and instead I want to put the effort in polishing out the base game more.
And, by surprise, I've ended up been more productive in just this week than the rest of the month. :D

For the time, I've mostly focussed on some QoL stuff, adding new effects to live up the game a bit more, and discovered a way to spawn/despawn objects based on item progression, so that can be a fun tool to toy around with.

For now, I'd like to show of some of the new effects:

Glowing forest particles: (Are they spores? fairies? dust? pollen? I don't know, but it looks neat)

Lively birds:
birdsss.gif

Hit effects:
star effects.gif

I've had ups and downs last month, still fighting to get my stomach healthy again.
And despite that, also still wanting to remain productive...I should certainely prioritise one over the other.
I'm starting to think that I've a fear of not meeting expectations, from others as well as myself, which has kinda let to this stressful situation.
And it's kinda ironic, cause most of the time, I'm just setting the bar of expectations too high for myself.
So maybe I should take it easier the following period. Trying to reduce my expectations for the following period.

I've also wanted to look for a new alternate place to post these monthly art batches.
Posting these on my art thread has pretty much become a habit, like a dairy to reflect back on the past month
I kinda want to turn it into something more general, less restricted by TCF's community, like a blog. But I'm not sure what kind of blogging website to choose.
Certainely it's something I want to keep general, something I could share with friends and family alike.
But I also think it's a problem if I can only expect replies if they've an account, and I don't think people will create an account just to comment.
I should look into this more the following period. For now I'll keep it on this thread before I've made the descision.

Aaaand that's all for now, one month away from my birthday. and soon for my vacation to start off too.
Hopefully things will get better again. :)

GN Steef 28.png

Yesterday has been my 28th Birthday, weeeeeew.
Comparing stuff back, things certainely goes better this year than prior, but I've still got ways to go.

I've just finished my 2 week vacation and for the first time, I didn't focus on anything, I just went relaxing, playing games and taking care of the house and food with my brother.
It was pretty great.

I'm a little tired, so think I'll keep the introduction short as well.

--------Artworks--------------

I went watching the Deer anime (Shikanoko nokonoko ko:red:an-tan) and I've fallen in love with it.
It won't take long until I start seeing CGI deers anywhere.
GN Shika.png

Recently in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I've gotten every rare OC Blade. My first intention was to draw every blade in detail like I did with Pyra/Mythra, but that got a bit over ambitious with how complex and detailed all their designs are. (I've respect for Pixiv artists).
So instead, I doodled some of my favorite rare Blades.
Xeno OCs.png

If I had to compare it with an "All Terraria Armors", then this would probably still take longer due to how complex the designs are.
I personally like to add a bit of my own creativity in what I see in the pixels, but the designs here are already fleshed out well. :p

And another milestone!
In Age of Empires 4, I've finally reached Diamond Rank, this was already ambitious for a lowkey competitive player like me. But I'm glad to have finally reached it! :D
My journey in ranked play was around 2 years, and I've learned a lot in the game. I probably tend to keep the ranked experience just below Diamond Rank though, as things only get more skillful up there.
GN Diamond I 2.png

Additionally, I've worked on a mini-series where I talk about pretty interesting and underrated mechanics within AoE4:
proselytization.pngSoheiSutra.png
I've been looking for a proper place to post these images. I know art websites, but I don't think they really fit on such a site. (and I may have to double check my drawings with double chests)

-----Gamedev-------

YEAH I'M DOING GAMEDEV AGAIN YEAH

Most of it was in the period before the vacation though :p
But I'm glad to say that the first polish part of HertenHeld is done, introducing new effects and a better QoL:
shinyshine.gif

Steam Support.gif

Although...since that the update has taken so long, I felt like it also needs a bit of new content to freshen things up again.
So...for the 3th time in 3 years, I'm looking back at the Alraune Boss. And I feel like I just should make it happen to wrap up this 3-year long idea:
So in one week of vacation, I've designed and implemented the Dark Forest area.
It's not big, but it's large enough for everything that I already had worked on to fit in. Looking forward to polish it up nicely. And prepare for the other 90% of development time

Dark Forest.gif

(Footage not final, stuff can change overtime)

Fallen Star also has gotten a quick update, you can now restart the game without needing a Hard-Reset.
...yep, that's all. :p

----------------------

Recently, I also saw this video of Jaiden Animation:

While it's a great story on it's own right, it also got me thinking myself.
I also had a somewhat similair experience on a smaller scale, now also been 10 years ago. (Heck, this thread ALONE is almost 10 years old)
I'm also feeling a bit tired of the main structure of a worklife, but on the other side, I DO have free evenings and no online pressure to do whatever.
So I feel a bit more free to change things up at will. (Unless my mindset to keep myself productive counts as online pressure....welp)

Now, the artistic jump from 2015 to 2017 was pretty incredible, but from 2017 to 2024 (now), things feel to be a bit more of the same.
I don't necessarely mean that this is a bad thing, I've found my style and now I've mastered in it. And I've also expanded into other stuff regarding gamedev.
But I want to experience it again, seeing a big jump from what I used to do, to what I do now. And if I don't want to draw with thinner lines and blend with the other artists, then I want to seek out different options where my artstyle can do.

So I think, seeing Jaiden already started doing animations at her 16th, and told how easy it is to look up how to animate, I feel like I have the aptidute to try this too.
In fact, sometimes I force myself to animate in programs totally not suited for it, like how I've to export every frame file-by-file, and paste them together on an online gifmaker. (That's the way I've been doing animations up until now)

But I think, no, I believe that doing animation is just one step away, all it takes is just to make that step.
...And probably also some time to spare. That's probably the trickiest thing, having too much on my plate. ^^;

I'll give it a month to think about it, perhaps finishing up Gamedev probably comes first.
...And here I went, wanted to keep things short, and still emptied my thoughts for an hour again. :p

As for now, have a great summer vacation!! :D

Monthly Art Batch!

Putting emphasis on the --ART-- this time!!!
YEAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Burn Blazing Blades.png

I really like fire swords, the big swords, the hot swords, the fiery swords, the holy swords, the darker swords, the original swords, and the one done many times.
Yeah, I just really like fire. And I've been feeling motivated! 🔥🔥🔥

As a birthday present, I've gotten Void Stranger, it's a strangely unique puzzle game with a lot of secrets.
It has also that Gameboy Link's Awakening style, but it's definitely a league of it's own.
Wish I could tell more about it, but I think it's something you should experience for yourself.
All I can say is, it has my recommendation. :)
Void Stranger.png
And after Void Stranger...I had nothing to do...or so it seems.
Because now I was on gamedev break, and out of games to play.
So I took this moment of free time to look at all my OC's, listed them all, and see which one were still off interest, and could use something extra.

But before that happened, I got a little distracted, and grouped every character design together.
So, as shown down here, this is almost every (if not all) Character Designs listed. The uncut version:
Everyone is here.png

I should probably remind that these are "Character Designs", and not all of them are "OC's" with the intention that they've more to talk about beyond their initial design.

However, seeing them all together sparked the interest that let me decide which of these are going to be keepers, and are willing to do more with them.
And thus, I went for an OC drawing spree the past month, posting almost daily a new reworked classic.
(Next month, some of these characters may no longer return, it gotta be a survival of the fittest)

So, time for a quick rundown of the OC draws this month!

Rose: A Space Sibling Soldier with Fire and Fox traits.
(I went with a new style for this one, to see if it fits her)

Sorypha: The Cyber Angel taken over by an AI.

A plant girl, designed/described by a friend:
(This was a bit of a yearly theme between artists that they describe a new character for someone else, it was up to them how they'll use them. I decided to draw my ideas out.)
Rei plant girl.PNG

A thorn ranger, also designed by a different friend:

Karst the Cyborg Soldier with a Robot hand, I decided to make him more interesting by chopping off his other arm.
(It's for character development, I swear. Males usually have a harder time to be interesting to me)
Karst Chop.png

Ryan, my old Terraria summoner character, misunderstood that their summons were animated "spawns".
He seek for a distant life to be one with nature.

The Ice Queen, this was meant to be a Polar opposite of Sapphire:
Ice Queen.png

A Rookie Rogue and Silly Squire showed up at some point, they seemed familiar to some veteran friends:

Rookie Rogue and Silly Squire.png

And new characters that were once AI-generated before I wiped them.
Wanted to redraw them as they did looked neat. But I doubt I'll use them beyond that point.
AIOCs.png

It was @Corenality 's Birthday once again! I wanted to bring back a character even he wouldn't remember.
Perhaps this had kickstarted my drawing surge as well.
So like there's this whole world and stuff that I have planned for this character but I'm too ...png

---Gamedev---
August was mostly a gamedev break, but I've done a few interesting things:

Most of the enemy designs are done now, including a stronger version of the standard enemy:
monsterpeaep.gif

Additionally, Samantha gains an extra weakness in the form of knockback. Some strong attacks may now send her flying. (Things may yet to be adjusted to keep things fair)
knockback.gif

And that's all of gamedev for myself, but as a little ShoutOut, I've also a bit of abstract art to show too:
FractalTD.exe.png

This was a drawing for a game made by @W1K , one of TCF's forums veterans, after he made it for the GMTK game jam that happened earlier this month.
Recently the results came in, and surprisingly, he made it into the top #93 Enjoyment out of 7.600+ entries! That's a huge accomplishment!

You can check out his game here:

Alright, and that's all the time I've got, time to go back to play Castlevania Dominus Collection on my Nintendo Switch.

You've gotten a lot of stuff to show for this month! And as usual, I love all of it. Keep it up, Steef! (Althoigh i don't really show myself here often due to other things in the way)

Sure did! it has been on my radar for a while, but I hadn't made the step to buy yet. :p

It's an awesome experience, it keeps surprising me every time, and I'm glad to have played it.

The surprise shoutout! Kinda cursed seeing probably the gamedev achievement I'm the most proud of in the same post as the game that inspired me to take gamedev seriously. Honestly all this :red: you've been showing is great and I really look forward to play a sort of HertenHeld deluxe
