Greetings Terrarians!

We are back once again with the latest and greatest Terraria news. It was another eventful month - Terraria turned 15(!), we saw the teaser reveals of both the Collector's Edition and the Design Works retrospective book, and a ton of progress took place on 1.4.5.7 as well. That one is shaping up nicely, we think, and thank you for giving us the time needed to try and get it as right as possible on the first go - a big challenge with any balance-based task. All that said, we hope you will enjoy what we have to share this month and are as excited as we are for what is to come in the weeks and months ahead!

Let's see what is in store this month, shall we...

Fifteen Years?! That is a long time indeed! That's 131,400 hours - which quite a few of you have chosen to spend with our humble game. To say that reaching this milestone is equal parts insane and humbling is a massive understatement. It is really hard to put into words what your support for these many years has meant to our little studio. Simply put, you all are the engine that makes this all work. Your support allows us to keep going, keep expanding upon Terraria, without having to fall back to price increases or microtransactions. This is becoming increasingly rare in modern gaming, and we cannot thank you enough for making what we do every day possible.

From the hardcore players with thousands of hours to those just discovering our "metroidvania in a sandbox" today... from the builders to the speedrunners... from those that we interact with regularly in our community to those that...

How in the world is it almost Summer already?! It feels like 1.4.5 launch was just yesterday... Our team has been head-down working away on post launch support for 1.4.5 and we really think everyone is going to enjoy what is coming soon in Terraria 1.4.5.7. You will get to see a bit more of that in the update sections below in this State of the Game. As it is balance focused, we are certain there will need to be some tweaks in what we assume will be 1.4.5.8 before we can hopefully - at long last - call 1.4.5 done and move on to the wonderful world of Crossplay. We received our Terraria Board Game copies as well, but we haven't really had time to dive in yet. There is so much more in the works for this year, it should be a fun ride!

Spring is finally here - we think - sort of? Seriously, last week we had both 80F days and a day of snow. Come on nature, make up your mind! On a serious note, work on 1.4.5.7 continues unabated. As we mentioned previously, this post launch fix update is heavily focused on balance. Console and Mobile continue to chase right behind while preparing for Crossplay. The Terraria Board Game Kickstarter copies are finally hitting the hands of players (exciting!). It really has been an eventful month - and year - so far, with so much more to come. With all that being said, shall we dive into the details?

After a brief hiatus - because the State of the Game last month should have been pretty obvious haha - we are back again with the usual monthly update across the world of Terraria. What a time it has been since our last SOTG - Terraria 1.4.5 released and has seen several rounds of fixes already (with more to come), a handful of new merch products released (details on that below), and planning is well underway for "what comes next". We will be hitting on all of those topics alongside our usual community pieces this month. Before we launch into all of that, we wanted to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to Terraria 1.4.5 and for your diligent reporting, feedback, and more as we go through our usual post-launch fixes and tweaks. You have once again proven that the Terraria fans are the best fans across all of gaming.

As we mentioned in last month's State of the Game, things were looking up for a January 2026 release. We did have to resubmit a few things, which pushed us back a bit further than expected. However, and to keep this short and sweet, we are happy to share that...

Here we are once again at the end of another year. One filled with ups and downs, highs and lows, but through it all we remain so thankful for all of you Terrarians - and even more excited for what lies ahead. We will get into the short term details of that below, but we will leave you wondering and speculating about what is in store for 2026 and beyond. After we get through 1.4.5, we will dive into that with everyone. For now, expect a very abbreviated State of the Game this month. Given the timing of the last Thursday of December this year, pretty much all of our partners (and, indeed our team) has stepped away for the holidays. However, we didn't want to leave you without at least a brief update on a few things.

So, with that said, let's get to checking out what lies beneath the Terraria Tree this year!

A very Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you! Our teams are taking a small break today and tomorrow to spend time with friends and family (and generous helpings of turkey, dressing, and more). Of course, Christmas and the busy shopping season lurks right around the corner as well - so much going on all at once! It goes without saying that we are beyond thankful for the support you all show us each and every day. Even on the most difficult of days, it is that support that makes it all worthwhile. You make all of this possible, and we never forget that. We also know it has been overlong with the Terraria 1.4.5 dev cycle, but we are getting closer and closer each and every day. Thank you for your patience there.

Happy Halloween from all of us to all of you! Halloween has always been one of our favorite times of the year - especially when we get to see all of the crazy costumes, creepy decorations, and creative pumpkins that Terrarians put together each year. So, whether you entered the annual Halloween Contest or not... please be sure to share your spookiest creations with us! On the development side of things, we do have some more clarity on timing to share this month. There are still a lot of moving parts involved that could adjust things, but it is starting to feel like we know the general boundaries. More on that in a bit. For now, let's get set to dive into another month of Terraria news...

Trick or treat!

Greetings Terrarians! We have so much to celebrate! Tomorrow will mark the 11th anniversary of the Terraria Community Forums (TCF). Also, this year marks the 10th anniversary of when 1.3 was released. Amazing to think it's been ten years since our friends, the martians, have joined the game. With Halloween coming up we wanted to combine everything everywhere all at once.

No matter what category, this is a Terrarian Martian Halloween contest, so your entry should reflect Terraria and Martians and Halloween for the best...

We have one foot already into the Fall season - our favorite season of the year! - and we are drawing ever closer to the release of Terraria 1.4.5. More on that below. We are also getting really close to the release of the Terraria Board Game in November. The end of the year is setting up to be quite eventful indeed! We are also already setting the stage for what lies ahead in 2026 - Terraria's 15th Anniversary year. We hope we can bring some more cool stuff your way as a result of those plans, but that will have to wait for another day. August was quite an eventful month for Team Terraria. We are well into the final push for Terraria 1.4.5 (for real, more on that below), and tickets are flying through the system. Several members of the team were also able to get together in person this month for the first time in many years - and for the first time ever with some folks. We have also been able to take care of a lot of planning for "what comes next" that will hopefully make for more consistency down the line. More on that in the future. With that said, we are all back home and ready to push this over the line.

Happy summertime everyone! Well, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. All hands remain on deck in regards to Terraria development. To get the tough part out of the way first, we still do not have a release date to give out. Every day is one day closer, of course, but we are trying to remain overly cautious and conservative in regards to giving out any timing. We do not want to repeat the mistake of giving out a timing window and then have things change and it not be accurate. So, we must once again ask for your continued patience as we do the hard work that needs to be done in order to ensure a quality update for everyone. Short of pushing crunch time on the team (which we are not going to do), things are proceeding as fast as they can at this point. With that said, we have a few fun spoilers this month that we hope everyone will enjoy. So, without further ado...

May has come and gone already? Time is really flying this year - or maybe it's just us? Terraria turned 14 years old this month, which is crazy to think about - a massive thanks to each and every one of you for your support over the years! Anyway, another month of progress is in the books and the concerted effort (and extra hands on deck) towards tackling tickets is already paying off. Our rate of working through these has accelerated noticeably. There is still a good ways to go, but we are very pleased with the pace. We know that everyone is desperately wanting a release window. We discuss this very topic on a regular basis - ultimately, we don't want to ever cut corners, and we want to be very sure of any date/timing we give whenever it is ready for prime time... so just hang in there with us a bit longer. We know this update has taken a long time, and we thank you for that patience you show each month.

Spring has certainly sprung in our neck of the woods. Everything is greening up, flowers are in bloom, and the allergies are off the charts! Lots of interesting things going on behind the scenes as of late - hopefully some of that comes to fruition and we can share the details in later months. We know things are a bit chaotic in the world right now as well, so we do hope that Terraria can at least provide an area of respite for everyone. We also know that releasing the update would certainly help in that regard. We are doing all that we can to not only get this one done, but also plan a bit ahead to streamline things for down the road - but that's a story for another time. For now, let's dig in to the latest news from the world of Terraria!

Anybody feeling especially lucky this month? We sure hope so, because we have some fun stuff to share this month - and we are one month closer to getting this update into your hands. It is crazy to see that the first three months of 2025 have already flown by. We promise that there is a pretty cool update sitting in the pot of gold at the end of this very long rainbow. One upside is that the extended update timeline has given DR Studios the chance to dive into even more polish and improvements on things specific to Console and Mobile. We hope that love and care will come through to everyone when the time comes.
