Massive New Terraria 1.3 PS4 & Xbox One Patch Now Available

Greetings Terrarians!

We’re happy to announce that a new update is now available for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One. We appreciate all the feedback and reports from the community as we worked through everything contained in this patch.

This update includes several months of bug fixes, with over 600 bugs being resolved. Many of these were inter-connected and needed to be fixed together to avoid breaking something else.

To keep these patch notes relatively light (as much as you can with as many fixes as this) we’ve combined several issues into a generalized fix list. Below is the “topline summary” of this update and shows just how vast it really is. If you’re so inclined, you can read the full unedited fix list here – just prepare for a lot of reading and some raw bug reports.

While this patch update is massive, we suspect there will still be a few lingering issues out in the wild that will need to be patched in a future update; however, this patch should result in a significantly improved experience for everyone.

Please continue sending your bug reports here: https://fs30.formsite.com/505games/form15/index.html

Terraria: State of the Game (9/14/18)

Greetings, Terrarians!

Welcome to our first State of the Game featurette! This is a monthly report that is designed to shed additional light on where we are in development, regardless of the circumstances.

We learned a lot during the initial 1.3 launch, and we believe this is a great way to keep everyone in the community informed about development happening on each platform.

Xbox One & PlayStation 4

Since April, the team has been working on a significant patch that resolves hundreds of bugs.

We’re happy to announce that the patch has been submitted to both first-party platforms for release! As soon as we obtain approval and can release it, we’ll let you know.

This new patch resolves over 600 bugs across every aspect of the game including UI, multiplayer, art and gameplay! Players new and old are going to have a much better experience overall!

Moving forward rather than doing massive patches like this one, we are aiming to do more frequent releases. The feedback we received from the community while working on this patch necessitated this timeline and workflow, but this is the exception to the rule moving forward.

Understandably people are wondering when the next content updates will appear. At this time, we’re focused on a few more follow-up patches that will be tackling a specific set of issues. There’s some technical housekeeping we need to take care of first that will put us in a better position to continue to work through the issues that people are most vocal about.

Feedback from the community, will also be critical in helping determine what issues we address.

Ultimately, we want to provide the community with a roadmap on what you can expect in terms of additional content....

Summer is on its way out the door (for those of us in the North at least). Let's see it off with some fresh new Creation Compendium entries!
Welcome to CC #63 ^.^

Would you like to see your fanart showcased in the next Compendium?
Take a look at our New and Improved rules, then send your entries to @darthmorf
If you're unsure how to enter, check out this guide!
1) All entries must be submitted to the hosting member's profile NOT via PM (See the previous CC to determine who is next on the rotation).
2) All entries must be Terraria related in some way or another, whether that is in-game, art, music literature or any other form of creativity. Fanart of modded content will be accepted at the discretion of the CC team after review of the entry.
3) Each user may only submit one entry per month. Group entries are allowed, but all members who worked on the project must be credited and proof of consent from each member must be given. Group entries do count as a user's single entry.
4) Plagiarism is strictly not tolerated. Any evidence of such matters should be sent to a member of staff privately as soon as possible. The CC operates on a 'two strikes and you're out' system; after two offenses a user will be permanently banned from entering into all future Creation Compendiums.
5) Content such as memes, image macros, and other such content that does not contribute to the Compendium's message of expressing your creativity will be rejected. These "low-effort entries" will be taken out at the CC team's discretion.
6) Entries must be of decent quality. Blurry images, distorted sound files, and entries of obvious minimal effort will not be accepted. Entries will be reviewed by the CC team, and may be removed at their discretion.
7) The CC is a showcase, not a contest. All entries submitted (that are within the rules) will make it into the...
Hello Terrarians!

Check out the Windy Day track by Scott Lloyd Shelly from Resonance Array! The team is SUPER excited about this update and can't wait to get it out to you :)

Greetings, Terrarians!

We know you have been anxious to see some progress on the 1.3 update for Terraria on mobile devices. Both Re-Logic and Pipeworks have also been excited to share some pre-production work that has been completed! This work focuses on the specific features and changes that are required for the Mobile version above and beyond the core codebase.

This small teaser showcases some of what users might expect to see on their mobile devices when the update comes out. This also gives us a chance to show you a little peek into the development process to those who are curious. Note that this is only intended to be sample image and is still very much “work in progress”.

Screenshot.png

This is a first-pass mockup of the new mobile UI. As you can see, the layout is similar to the PC and console versions, with some alterations to make it fit the mobile screen space. After several rounds of feedback, we have made and continue to work on polish with the User Interface. Primarily, we have tweaked a few things in the UI to be less cluttered; the icons on the left side now have a uniform background, and the menu icons on the bottom of the screen no longer have backgrounds taking up space. This is still very much work in progress, and we expect a few more tweaks to this sample image before it is finalized (with similar work going on at the same time for other parts of the UI).

We also wanted to take this opportunity to update you on our current plans since the original forum post from when we took over console & mobile development of Terraria is no longer accurate.

We’ve been working with both 505 Games & Re-Logic on updated priorities after the console launch. This includes fixing a list of bugs that are still present in the console versions and moving full-speed ahead with Switch development. Mobile development has been focused on UI design and codebase refinement thus far.

In terms of launch order and timing, the nature of game...
Hello Terrarians!

As you have noticed from the recent slate of spoilers, our work on Terraria 1.3.6 is bearing some exciting fruit! This update has a lot more in store than we have shared, and with that in mind, we wanted to share one new quality of life feature that we find particularly exciting.

divid.png

This new feature, which we are calling Block Swap, allows players to replace one block with another without having to break the previous block first! Tired of the way your house looks? Now you no longer have to tear the whole house down to change it. Need to clean up those random clay and stone blocks in your yard? Just swap them all out with your block of choice - much faster than mining them all individually!

Block Swap uses the mining power of the strongest Pickaxe in your inventory. Therefore, you will not be able to replace blocks that you cannot mine and it will take the same number of "swings" to replace a tile that your current pickaxe takes to mine the same block. Here are some additional fun features that Block Swap will bring to Terrarians everywhere:
- Block Swap can be used to change floor (and ceiling) blocks that furniture items are attached to, without breaking the furniture items
- Swapped blocks will keep the hammered shape that the previous blocks had
- Swapped blocks will be actuated if the original block was also actuated
- As an added bonus, you can now swap one chest for a different style of chest without having to empty it first!

divi.png

Having played around with this feature for a while now, we can confidently say that this is one of those quality of life improvements that we have no idea how we ever lived without. We can’t wait until it is in your hands to see if you agree! Work on 1.3.6 is moving along at a strong pace – stay tuned for further details on what it...

Good Day, Terrarians-

We wanted to take a few moments to share some important news with you all in regards to the status of Terraria: Otherworld.

As you all know from when we first announced the game a long while ago – and as we repeated in our subsequent posts - Re-Logic’s focus has and always will be on delivering complete and quality game experiences to our fanbase. Just to underscore it once more, this means that we will not compromise game quality for speed to market or for any other reasons within our control. Our team has a clear vision for this game – one that we shared with all of you with much shared excitement – and, in spite of all of our efforts, the current state of the game remains equal parts far from that vision and beyond behind schedule from our initial planning when we shared Otherworld with all of you three years ago. Progress has absolutely been made during that time – but unfortunately, a very thorough status review of the game versus its intended design showed both the Re-Logic and 505/Pipeworks teams that things were quite a bit further away from the finish line than we had imagined. Taking the massive amount of work that would be remaining to complete along with the extensive time it would take to get that done, and how that would greatly interfere with the pursuit of other projects on behalf of Re-Logic – it becomes clear that this leaves things in a very undesirable state.

As a result, we have made the decision to terminate development of Terraria: Otherworld.

We sincerely thank both of our external development teams for their hard work on the game, but at some point, we have to be honest with ourselves and realize that Otherworld simply is never going to reach its potential in any sort of reasonable time or fashion.

We know that the cancellation of Terraria: Otherworld will not be happy news to anyone. It is FAR from a happy moment for us either, when we look at all the...
