NPCs & Enemies Acid Rain - Hardmode Rain Event

Great idea!
Reminds me of BDL2.

When I read that they are going to add a fourth liquid [upcoming features, Terraria wiki] I thought about acid too...I mean: What else could it be?

NO! Definitivelly not!
I am still traumatized by that because of them on Starbound, it's real tiring to have to wait several minutes to it stop while npcs seems to not be affected by it.

For my 80th suggestion thread, this is my take on the idea of a Hardmode version of the Rain event.

The Basics

For starters, this event occurs the same way the Rain event does, except it is half as common and occurs much less frequently. The event starts and ends at a random time, just like it's early-game counterpart, but it would tend to last a bit longer.

One unique hazard of the Acid Rain event would be that it turns all pools of water on the surface into pools of acid, which deals a small amount of damage and inflicts the Acid Debuff for 7 seconds, like a weaker version of lava. What is the Acid Debuff? Let me answer that for you, but I have to get through the basics first.

Also, just for the heck of it, anything that is on the surface that isn't immune to the Acid Debuff has a 10% chance every second to be inflicted with the Acid Debuff for 1 second. This can be avoided by being in front of background walls, holding an Umbrella, or visibly wearing an Umbrella Hat.

This may be trolling too much, but it would definitely be minimally annoying more than anything else. It's there for effect, even if it does cause trace amounts of damage in order to experience it. That'ts pretty much it, really, just a slightly painful visual effect.

Acid Debuff

The Acid Debuff would be a middle ground between Ichor and Cursed Flames Debuffs, which means (using the the existing mechanics) it would deal 2 damage per second and reduce defense by 10. However, I don't like either of those effects for one reason or another. If my proposed Change to Ichor and Changes for DoT Debuffs were added into the game, it would increase damage taken by 5%, do 5 DPS to enemies, and do 3 DPS to players.

Enemies that would be immune to the Acid Debuff would be the Toxic Sludge and all Acid Rain event enemies. As for players, we can add Acid Debuff Resistance to the Bezoar and its upgrades.

On a miscellaneous note, we could give Spazmatism the ability to shoot Acid instead of Cursed Flames so that there isn't a weird confliction on Crimson worlds. That is, unless we get a new Mechanical Boss which inflicts Ichor, but that's not very likely, is it?

Just wanted to jot down my ideas somewhere. Feedback is appreciated.
An idea: It is instead an event, summoner possibly crafted from a toxic slime drop, that is a bit weaker than the pumpkin moon, the caustic tyrant could be the boss (if stats are increased) and there could be some minibosses et cetera.

I think you should be able to make a steel umbrella to protect yourself from the Acid-Rain
Crafted with 10 Lead/Iron Bars and an Umbrella at a mythril anvil, and it looks like this:
View attachment 19517
It would be an accessory that also gives you +1 defence

Would be weird as it is the first non accessory item/material to be used to make a accessory, unless I am forgetting something.
Note: That doesn't necessarily mean it would be a bad thing.

I really like the idea of the Caustic Tyrant, and the rest of the suggestion for that matter!

Great ideas as usual!
It's very interesting, and fits the style of Terraria. Everything seems balanced as well. I like the acid effect.
Just a grammar thing here.
For my 80th suggestion thread, this is my take on the idea of a Hardmode version of the Rain event.
it is half as common and occurs much less frequently.

As a writer, this kind of bugs me. You said it is half as common, which means it occurs at half the rate that normal rain occurs. But then you added "much less frequently," which kind of renders the first statement useless, making one of them not true. (Grammar is a pet peeve of mine.)

I would love to see this added!

Being "half as common" and "occurring much less frequently" aren't contradictory descriptions. It occurs half as often as normal rain, hence it occurs much less frequently. Would you rather I said "It's half as common, occurring much less frequently"?

I support. Bringing "harder versions" of events from normal mode is what hardmode is all about. Normal Bosses get mech upgrades, Goblins have a sister pirate invasion, and eater of souls get corrupters. The rain should get something as well, and acid rain fits well with it.

Aside from the monsters from this event looking awesome which makes you want to fight them. The items you get from them also look fun to use. On top of making the environment and water dangerous to be in. It also brings a great use for the umbrella in hardmode.

I think it would be best to make it say "It's half as common, making it much less frequent."

Sorry to bother you, and like I said, I still support this :p

it's a good suggestion, except the acidic arrows bother me.

If they had acid on them, they'd dissolve.

Instead, they should have a bottle of acid at the tip.

I think it shouldn't just be a steel umbrella.

There is a great loot Acidic Husk

It should be something like Husk Umbrella

5 Iron Bars + 5/10 Acidic Husks

How did I miss this?

In any case this is a well made and interesting event. May I ask that the caustic core be placeable to turn water acidic after the event has ended? Just a random thought.
