I feel like you're missing the point.
TLDR: You're suggesting that whip progression gets nerfed and instead suggesting a summon that gets outclassed very quickly.

Sure, the other summons don't heal the player, but that's what healing potions are made for.
As for the explosions, the whip is supposed to be a summoner's main weapon, and the actual summons are just that. Summons for damage.
it doesn't get outclassed quickly at all. it's a support minion.
the summon is better then the firecraker when minion mixing. it will not nerf summoners at all.
+ we know 1.4.5 is adding new whips, if one of them is early hardmode or late pre-hardmode that well be even better, but even without that. spiders + imps + frog + flinx + hungry when used together are a lot better then all imps + firecracker in stats, heal and dps

And summoner should not have lifesteal... The reason tanks have a broken lifesteal weapon is because they generally take more damage, life drain is an exception, and gets outclassed pretty quickly anyway.

lifesteal is not the main thing in this wepeon. it's just an aditional thing. the main thing is how it makes other minions hits explode

I get why you’d want to keep firecracker, but the reason for removing it is balance. It’s so strong that it overshadows other summoner whips, and hungry staff offers a more strategic alternative without just being another DPS spam tool. while having the same minion damage multiplication mechanic of the firecracker. Keeping both seems wierd for me.. does the damage multiplication stack between them ?. But I appreciate the feedback!
Firecracker’s tag disappears after 1 hit. Everyone who calls it “unbalanced” doesn’t know how it actually works or uses the old bugged and insanely OP tmodloader version of it which was glitchy and never in vanilla as evidence. You literally made a better weapon because its tag can work multiple times.
You also absolutely cannot use it on moon lord lol the range will result in your instant decimation unless you wear armor that isn’t summoner which makes it significantly worse with sdragon anyway.

flat tags are best on high hitrate minion combinations which is explicitly the reason you’d want to start minion mixing in the first place

Spider Staff starts to conflict with itself after you summon more than 3 of them. This means adding any other minion + 3 spiders is better dps than 4 spiders.

let's be real. have you seen anyone crafting spider staff ? i only crafted it once in my first summoner playthrough to try it. and never crafted it again
