Chapter fifty three: The blink of an eye

With a tired groan, the Ancient Cultist contained the powers within no more. As the first crack of light peeked through their robe, the Moon Lord moved, calling forth the Celestial Pillars, fully prepared and linked to their home worlds. Sending them plummeting towards the world below, he watched his most loyal follower as the energies contained within burst out, flooding the world with magic... And the fragment of his soul, which had infused it.

The Pillars landed a moment after, shields already erected to not only protect from the impact of landing, but to protect from His Nemesis when they come. One landed a bit to the East of the Dungeon, not quite close enough for His Nemesis to see. Another landed closer to the Village, on the Eastern border of the Hallow, and it's Light, and the Tundra next to it. The next landed on the other side of the Village, right in the middle of the Corrupted Desert. And the final one landed the furthest to the East, in the middle of the Jungle. And then they hovered over the ground, awaiting the foe they knew would come for them.

The Moon Lord redirected the Fragment of his Soul, infused with so much power, and focused it in the areas surrounding the Celestial Pillars, to give the four Clans strength. This would invigorate the soldiers that poured out, and also help manage the raw power swirling inside them, preventing it from leaking out. And so the fragment of his soul split even further, and mingles with the power of the Stars.

Throughout all of this, only a second or two had passed. His Nemesis blinked, and then they rummaged through the Lunar Coven Worshiper's Camp. They found an old device, a Manipulator of the powers long ago bestowed upon the Star Clans... Which had given them birth. But that was a story for another time, and one that His Nemesis did not care for one bit. So, they picked up the Ancient Manipulator, and the few Potions they found, and teleported home.

The Moon Lord was slightly irritated that not even the Lunar Coven had been free from His Nemesis's looting, but it had not surprised him. Instead of dwelling too deeply on it, he reached down, and helped with the resurrection of the Ancient Leader of the Coven. The Undead the Coven had mastered at raising... The living, not so much. Reincarnating the Leader much like he had for the Old Man long before (And sadly, more recently too), they blinked as the light seeped past their Mask's eye holes once again, and they wept tears of gratitude as they went down to rejoin their brethren.

And so, everything had been prepared. The Lunar Cult was back in working order, and the Pillars awaited their foe. His Nemesis erected the Ancient Manipulator in the Village Smithy, then set out once more, to the Corrupt Desert... And the first of the clans that they would face.

Chapter fifty four: Burn it with the fire of 1000 suns

His Nemesis soon arrived at the Corrupted desert, and the very fabric of reality seemed to... warp. The skies turned red, the moon grew gigantic. Oh, and balls of fire began to rain out of the sky, to fall in the distance. Taking a step back, all of these changes stopped, and even reverted to normal. Shrugging it off, His Nemesis pressed onward, into the domain of the Solar Pillar.

The first danger became quickly apparent: a huge flaming Centipede went flying overhead. Covered in searing hot spines, it glanced at the intruder, and ignored them for now. Experimentally, His Nemesis took a few swings at it, which had no effect what so ever. Sighing, they gave one last swing, before turning away, not seeing the Crawltipede writhe in pain as the Beam struck it's tail.

The next threat to reveal itself was what appeared to be a flying boulder... With molten spines, and glowing orange eyes. These beings could phase through the Ebonsand below their target, and charged at them, shrouded in a wreath of flames. Yelping, His Nemesis stumbled to the side, and took the thing down quickly. Next came Something similar, except in humanoid form, and without the ability to phase through the ground. These Srollers spun towards His Nemesis, only to find themselves face to face with a Beam from the Influx Waver.

His Nemesis stood their ground, not giving an inch to the Solar Clan. And then the Soldiers came. The Selenians came marching down, blades in hand. Leaping at His Nemesis in a flurry of spinning heat, the barrage was so potent even the Beams that were fired at them were turned back on themselves. His Nemesis di not notice this though, and simply kept swinging, hoping to bring them down. As they focused on the Selenians, the Corite got a good hit or two in, wearing them down.

And last came the Drakomire beasts, the land bound dragons. These were occasionally ridden by Selenians that had mastered the Spear and directed the Drakomire beasts in battle, and had been dubbed Drakanians for their skill. And then the Drakomire beasts opened their maws, and let loose a torrent of fire. These fireballs were not very potent though, and were often destroyed just by the frantic swinging of the Influx Waver, as His Nemesis tried to push back the Solar Clan, already reaching for their second potion.

A Corite charged from the side, and His Nemesis leapt into the sky to avoid it. And promptly was ripped in two by the Crawltipede up above. Grumbling profusely as they reappeared a few moments later, His Nemesis set out for the Corrupted desert once more, and ripped through the awaiting army ith abandon. Dozens of them fell... And then so did His Nemesis. Again.

The Moon Lord applauded the wonderful efforts of the Solar Clan. The battle tugged back and forth, with the Selenians falling, but His Nemsis barely felling another 2 dozen before finding themself back at the Village, a slight twitch developing in their eye. Most battles were a one sided slaughter, or at the very least a drawn out struggle. The Moon Lord watched in amusement, as the Solar Clan put up the valiant fight.

Upon their next foray out, His Nemesis fought all the way to the Solar Pillar itself. It was still surrounded by a shield, but a badly weakened one, as the power had to be redirected to calling down more troops, and supporting them in battle. Once His Nemesis was close, the Pillar itself fought back, calling down balls of firee from the sky. These were about as effective as the Drakomire's, rarely landing hits.

His Nemesis fought on, and the shield wavered, then dissipated, sending a gentle wave out as it fell. His Nemesis turned, and struck the Pillar directly, trying to bring it down. They did not get far, due to a few Corites erupting from the ground at that very moment.

It took two more trips to bring the Pillar down, His Nemesis gone through the far side of livid, and now in a cold rage. How fitting, after all they had put the Moon Lord through. The Solar Pillar ruptured, and space distorted once more, rumbling as the skies returned to normal, and the gate through space closed, blocking off any further reinforcements.

The Moon Lord flexed a hand, sending a sliver of power down to the world. And he met no resistance, none at all. A tendril brushed past His Nemesis, and them blanked out for a moment, their mind going numb before they readjusted. Chuckling, the Moon Lord stood up, and went outside, to gather some things...

His Nemesis gathered the scattered Fragments of the Solar Pillar, planning on using their power... Heading home, they forged a weapon they dubbed the Solar Eruption, and they gave it a few experimental swings. That done, they hopped in the Minecart, and went East once again, this time going all of the way to the Jungle...

Why would the Solar clan ally themselves with the Moon Lord over the Solar Coven?
Took me a moment to figure out the problem. Oh. Uh, oops. Impromptu explanation! `;)

The Solar Clan is imbued with the heat of a Sun, or Solar energy. Thus, Solar. The Solar Coven is against the Lunar Coven, so they named themselves after the opposite ideal, they don't actually worship the sun. They are not related in any way.

Side note: Which was named first? (In the story. Solar Pillar came first IRL.) When I get around to writing about the war between the Cults, I will probably play on that name now, if only in one sentence `:p

Chapter fifty five: Twinkle twinkle little popper

His Nemesis arrived in the Underground Jungle, the sounds of movement faintly echoing down from up above. Disembarking from their trusty vehicle, they got the Eyes spread out and ready, and began to climb up to the surface.

The first thing they noticed was all the blue. A clear, sparkling and dazzling blue. The stars shone brighter than they had ever before, washing a gentle light over the Jungle as the Stardust Clan noticed their target had arrived, and began to move.

Smaller centipedes than that of the Solar Clan wormed their way through the ground, chittering to each other as they closed in. Hearing the Milkyway Weavers approaching, His Nemesis hopped into the UFO, and put some distance between them and the ground. They also started to swing the Solar Eruption at the critters, mauling them before they even surfaced, as the very heat of the weapon would allow it to carve through the Mud.

Next, came the Stardust Cells. These quivering gelatinous balls were cells from the Stargazers of the clan, supersized and given remarkable growth rates. As each was sliced in two, the Cell would shatter into smaller versions, still eager to home in on their designated target. Wiggling as they tried to grow back to a normal size, the Solar Eruption made sure they did not have a chance.

Mingling with the next wave of Weavers came the Stargazers themselves, marching forward solemnly as they observed His Nemesis. Focusing their energy, they aimed a large amount of energy at their foe, waiting for a good shot to release it all. Sadly, the Eyes caught the Stargazers in the back, meaning that the shot was never taken.

His Nemesis looked to the sky, only to find it blocked out by a Flow Invader. These flying creatures, vaguely reminiscent of the local squid, spat out some of the young that they had stored in their body, entire colonies able to hide in the folds of one Invader. Casually flinging it's young down at His Nemesis, the Flow Invader soon found itself set alight, and twisting in on itself as the young inside perished from the Solar Eruption's sting. Those that had already began floating around their Parent hurled themselves at His Nemesis in an attempt at vengeance, and managed to scrape them at the very least.

Last of all came the beasts that had given the Stardust Clan the idea for focusing on rapid reproduction... The Twinkle Poppers. These walking hives of constant breeding and multiplication would pop out their little Twinkles every few seconds, and the young would scurry around, eager to explore. The young Twinkles were full of volatile mixtures though, and would pop into a spray of acid when His Nemesis squished them. The Twinkle Poppers were hunted down the same as everything else, set aflame and rent in two. Even the young were not exempt, getting caught up in the broad swings.

The Stardust Clan fought calmly, slowly. Pitifully. They fell in droves, most of the Wounds on His Nemesis due to surprise attacks from underground, or from the suicide swarm that came in the last moments of each Flow Invader. The shield surrounding the Stardust Pillar soon went down, too much power drained in warping in even more reinforcements, sometimes directly above the Pillar itself using a string of simple spells.

As His Nemesis turned to take down the aforementioned Pillar, a well timed attack from some of the Milkyway Weavers coincided with a Suicide Wave, resulting in a moments peace as His Nemesis reformed at the Village, significantly far away from the battlefield. Growling under their breath, they hopped in the Minecart once more, and began the long trip back.

Once they had returned, the Pillar did not last long. Between the Eyes keeping the initial reinforcements at bay, and the Solar Eruption carving it's way through the pillar itself, it soon ruptured, releasing the Fragments of it's power. The Moon Lord moved the residual energies around the Pillar to where those of the Solar were stored, and set aside the pile of materials he had gathered, glimmering in the Lunar Light.

The resulting wave of energy as it brushed past His Nemesis staggered in pain, but pushed through it. Collecting their thoughts, and the fragments, His Nemesis went home, and fiddled around with their stock of Potions, running a tad low. Then, they went to the Ancient Manipulator, and crafted another weapon... The Stardust Dragon Staff.

Focusing their power in the Staff, His Nemesis summoned it. The Stardust Dragon. Coiling around it's master gently, it crooned, and His Nemesis smiled. It was an eerie sight, one the Moon Lord was not used to. The Dragon then began to circle protectively through the air, keeping an eye out for anything it deemed a threat... And accidentally ripping through a bunny. His Nemesis did not seem to notice that, or care at the very least.

That done, they went outside, end headed West... Toward the Frozen Tundra, and the next Pillar that awaited there.

Chapter fifty six: Just have to suck it up.

A bolt of lightning went sizzling straight for His Nemesis's head. Ducking under it, they continued onward, to an ares dyed a pale green, and full of storms. The constant rumble of thunder could be heard from the distance, heralding the occasional bolt aimed for His Nemesis once again. Settling down in the middle of a hollowed out hill, they let loose their Dragon, and readied the Influx Waver once more.

Right above their head, a small portal opened up, depositing a pair of Alien Hornets on their head. Flailing around as they cut down the unexpected intruders, the small pests managed to land a few stings before being disposed of. The Dragon rushed off to the side, finding a Hornet Queen. The Queen shot of little darts at His Nemesis, they were coated in a peculiar gel, given to the Vortex Clan to use by the Nebula just before the Pillars had been sent down. This physics altering gel flung His Nemesis up and down, making it rather difficult to move away... Or aim, for that matter, as the Dragon did most of the work cutting the Queen down, then the Larva that dropped out of her.

Having already needed to resort to Potions from one half of the army, His Nemesis was not so eager to see what came next. Which, apparently, were the Vortexian Soldiers. They can charging at their target, Hornets flying overhead. Between the Dragon and the Influx Waver, half of them fell, and the other half were badly wounded... But they still reached His Nemesis, and mauled them as much as they could before they died as well. The Vortexians discharged their energy packs upon death, firing a bolt of lightning in revenge, usually missing their target.

The Hornets had done their work though, and His Nemesis found themself back at the Village, missing half of their coin. Grumbling, they hopped into the UFO, and made their way back, resummoning the Stardust Dragon as they flew. The Moon Lord was impressed, as that had been rather quick, considering. Reaching the hill once again, His Nemesis started cutting down Hornets immediately, still grumbling to themself.

The last Unit of the Vortex Clan finally made their appearance, the Storm Divers. Skilled in the usage of Jetpacks and firearms, they dashed at their target, letting loose a spray of bullets. Some of these bullets reached His Nemesis, causing an outbreak of cursing, and a swinging blade of fury suddenly flying at their face.

His Nemesis was done. No more careful ducking and weaving. They just charged straight into the hordes of enemies, screaming in rage, and possibly even frothing at the mouth. The Moon Lord could not quite see, between all of the bits of Hornet flying through the air. As expected, this tactic resulted in being hit by a Queen again, and hovering through the air oddly. Then being shot down by all of the Vortex Clan present. Quite a few of their number had gone down with His Nemesis though, which led to another blind charge a few moments later.

Just as that second charge resulted in a small shower of coins, a faint ripple through the air could be seen. It seemed the Vortex Pillar's shield had finally given out, and His Nemesis saw this too, charging past the hill when they returned. Carving into the Pillar, the Stardust Dragon helped keep the Vortexians at bay, as the Pillar grew larger and larger cracks, and ruptured... But not before summoning quite a few Hornets to harass them.

The Moon Lord muttered to himself, experimentally reaching down once more, to see if he could manifest at all... Apparently, at least his voice could now, as His Nemesis glanced around, unnerved by His otherworldly voice. Collecting the Fragments, a Hornet slipped past the Dragon, and managed to land the one last blow needed as they pocketed their loot.

Respawning as per usual, His Nemesis was... Irked. Glad that they had gotten what they needed, but irritated all the same, that one of the stragglers left behind had gotten them. And so, they crafted another weapon, this time melding the Vortex Fragments into a bow... The Phantasm. Giving it a pluck, they were satisfied with the powers that the Vortexian energy had brought out, and went to the Minecart once more, to head to the last Pillar remaining.

The Moon Lord had not sat still either, redirecting the residual power once again. Feeling the powers all swirling around, they were almost welcoming... Which suited him just fine. Sending the materials down to where these energies were hidden, he began to build... And he smiled in anticipation.

Chapter fifty seven: What a headache

His Nemesis pulled up to the closest passageway to the surface, climbing out of the Minecart. Hopping into the UFO, they flew up, to be greeted by an unusual sight... Gravity seemed to have stopped working in places. Or, more accurately, it had reversed, and chunks of rock and earth were flying up into the sky. Dismissing it as yet another peculiar artefact of being in such a power saturated area, this one a vibrant purple, they turned to the Nebula Pillar, which was located nearby.

And suddenly found one of the Nebula's Floating brains hovering in front of them, firing of lasers. One of which was dodged, the rest of which were not, striking His Nemesis as they tried to escape. The Nebula Floater blinked lazily, and teleported in front of them instead, only to be greeted by a snarling Dragon.

The following Nebula Floaters were even more annoying, as they were accompanied by Predictors. These individuals, so wise and well versed in the matters of the world they could be said to predict the future, directed the rest of the army, sending waves of small spinning Magic bolts at His Nemesis. They responded by sending the Dragon to deal with the Predictors, and shooting down the Floaters personally.

The Moon Lord watched this with concern. He remembered the Nebula Clan being masters of strategy, of cunning. To be able to outmanoeuvre all three of the other clans, at the same time! And yet, they were missing with their attacks. They were dodging too late. He could not understand it. There were a few reasons that he could think of, each unsettling. First, they could have lost their vaunted intelligence over time, and were now a lesser race. Two, they simply could not predict His Nemesis, that they were against a foe even more skilled than they. Or, maybe... Just maybe... They knew His plan. And they were outmanoeuvring even him. He shivered at the thought, and went back to watching, between building down below.

His Nemesis was doing badly, as while they were cutting down the enemies as they came, they were still landing hits fairly often. And then the Brain Sucklers came. They came in swarms, trying to get at His Nemesis. Most of them were cut down, but the Floaters got in the way, and one latched on. His Nemesis had their vision Obstructed, and the Nebula Headcra- Ahem, sorry, the Brain Sucklers, they clawed at His Nemesis's head and shoulders relentlessly, only stopping when they were forcibly blasted off. The second one to latch on, taking advantage of the temporary Obstruction, finished the job, and the Moon Lord could head the curses begin to fly just before they were reduced to a small puff of coinage.

Returning, His Nemesis went straight into rage mood, carving through the enemies in their path, growling, nothing got close... And the Evolution Beasts watched from afar. They let loose several Homing Nebula Spheres, before charging down, trying to catch His Nemesis's attention. It worked, allowing the Spheres to ram straight into their stomach, causing their eyes to water from the impact. Running for it, the Spheres still managed to whack them as they tried to escape, causing the UFO to wobble slightly.

Raining down vengeance with both Phantasm and Dragon, His Nemesis did not last long, before a combo of Brain Sucklers and Spheres shot from the Evolution Beasts brought them down, resulting in yet another bout of heated words, and a trip in the Minecart. Oh, and then another. And another. Sure, a dozen or two of the Nebula Clan fell each time. But so did His Nemesis... Which only served to prove that death would not stop them. Seemingly, it only made them irritable.

Just before the Fourth death (To the Nebula Clan alone), His Nemesis felt the shockwave ripple through the air, and they let loose a barrage of arrows down upon the Pillar. But the Pillar did not fall yet, due to a sneaky Sphere that had mingled with the Predictors that had come. Sighing as they respawned, His Nemesis made their return, and shot down the Nebula Pillar properly.

And it was time.
