Serious Unpopular Opinions

I worship the moon (named after it too) because it gives me hope, makes me happy, and I look to it when I have issues. It makes me feel better and helps me, which is what I think religion is really about.
This reminds me. A lot of people hate religions so it's not that an unpopular religion.

What is unpopular though, is having a strong dislike of modern paganism/Wiccans. Almost all that I've met IRL were overzealous and pushy about their beliefs.

being offended is a choice. making a joke about a deadly disease shouldn't equate to: "My mom died of that, which means you are making fun of my dead mom" and then I'm sitting there like: ":red: I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU!"

I can't tell you how many times I have told a joke that is even slightly in bad taste. and a person I don't even know, not part of the conversation, treks across the room to me and yells in my face about it.
But when someone calls someone else autistic, they're implying that it's a bad thing; that there's something wrong with people with autism. :c

That's not what I said. I'm gonna assume you didn't put words in my mouth on purpose, and urge you to read my post again.
You said that religions make people an oppressive :red:s, sorry if i misunderstood that though.

I'm always offended when people use Autistic or Asperger's as an insult. :(

Also i don't think religion is a bad thing, and that it has helped society a lot.
Nor do I believe that religion is a bad thing, but shoving it down someones throat is not my thing.
Giving someone something to believe is good indeed.

Though the show is wildly popular, there seems to be a large group of internet dwellers that hate The Big Bang Theory because something something "That's not what nerds are like!" etc. etc. Anyone who doesn't get that a sitcom is meant to have greatly exaggerated characters to create humor in the script are people who shouldn't be watching sitcoms in the first place.

So very risky for a newcomer such as myself to be posting in a thread like this so soon, but anyways: here goes (I'll be sticking to some of the milder stuff )

  • I don't think that Indiana Jones IV was in any way inferior plot-wise to the other Indy films: they all had far-fetched storylines with gratuitous and unrealistic violence (and we love them for it!)
  • Like many here, I hate Pewdiepie with a passion: making an arse of yourself over the internet by screeching over video game footage shouldn't get you the kind of admiration he and his lot get
  • Moving away from the safer topics: I think that companies/goverments etc. being required to reservere a set number of their available positions for potential female employees/law makers makes about as much sense as demanding that every one in four dinner tables be made of birch woord. Skill, not gender, should be the only requirement. The idea that quota like that improve equal opportunities is just an utter logical fallacy.

Also, as someone who has in fact been diagnosed with autism, I can totally relate to this:

But when someone calls someone else autistic, they're implying that it's a bad thing; that there's something wrong with people with autism. :c

Whenever someone uses the words "autist" or "autism" in a pejorative way, I can't help but feel like I am in some way targeted, which is natural because I involuntarily identify myself partly with that "group". Of course, I fully realise that those comments are never meant to be a direct attack against my person, as indeed most people I have met who do this don't even know or notice that I have that very diagnosis (and in some cases it's very satisfying to drop that bombshell on them once they've made their uncouth remarks about autists, but then who is being spiteful :D). Feeling offended isn't something you have control over, actually taking offence is a conscious choice: you're allowing it to get the better of you.

I think the word ":red:" is perfectly acceptable to describe people with a mental handicap. It's simply just that people think, "Oh, 12 year olds use :red: as an insult, better try to get people to start saying a different word in place of it." I have a sister with PKU, and she never is offended when people use the term, even though she's fully aware that people use it as an insult. Because it's not people who are actually afflicted saying it's an offensive word; it's their parents or some other asswipes who think they deserve to be able to change the way the word is used.

TL;DR
It's okay to describe someone with a mental handicap as ":red:ed."

I'm part of essentially .000001% of agnostic folk who don't think religion's a bad thing.

Im still expecting someone to come out and say they like Google +

@Fruitbat & @Nev
I remind you that this was created to voice your opinions, not start a hate war between people with different opinions.
If you came here expecting to see people who thought the same thing as you, I think you're in the wrong thread.

Just because someone has a different opinion to you or the norm it DOES NOT mean they are wrong, and it gives NO EXCUSE to be rude to them.

Most unpopular: Communism is a good idea.
Capitalism is horrible and encourages corruption.
(No one start a flame war please.)
I don't really care about 'modern media'/celebritiism. It's just stupid.:dryadtongue:

I don't believe in 'progress'. I believe it is spin created by people who want you to buy into their ideas.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gets more praise than it actually deserves.

I thought of one guys!

I think cyber-bullying is the stupidest :red: ever, being both the bully and the target, I can vouch that every website is made to combat it, facebook gives you the ability to ignore, unfriend, block, report the person. If you're being spammed with texts by the bully block.the.number it's not that difficult I fail to see how you can possibly be bullied through these mediums considering there are activists everywhere telling you exactly how to combat it and what to do. If somehow all else fails then just simply TURN OFF the device or computer you're being bullied on, it's not hard.

This thread contains discussions about topics not allowed in Off Topic: religion, medical conditions, etc. From the section rules:

Certain topics almost invariably lead to some level of drama, and yet, due to their intrinsic value as objects of discussion, these topics are not forbidden. However, they are restricted to the Terraria Adult Swim section and are strictly moderated, with much less leeway being given when the rules are violated. All members should read the Terraria Adult Swim: Rules & Guidelines before posting in the Adult Swim section.

This topic would be more acceptable if it were restricted to 'safe' subjects, or given a more narrow focus - say, "Unpopular Opinions about Video Games". The other, more serious and potentially polarizing subjects belong in Adult swim.

Because this thread contains a mixture of suitable and unsuitable topics, it is now closed. Please refocus and relocate the discussions in the appropriate places and manners.
