Just Got the game on PC and would like some Tips

Detective Azura

Skeletron
For reference on where I'm at: I currently have built two houses, consumed two mana crystals, have a bow & arrow and staff, and wooden armor. I have not fought any bosses yet, and it's just me & my Guide Wyatt. My world is medium-sized & a corruption world.

I'd specifically, I'd like some help on these things:
  • Who should I fight first? This is a sandbox game, so I could theoretically fight them in any order (aside from Hardmode exclusives needing me to defeat the WoF first). At least from as far as I'm aware of.
  • A follow-up to next question: When should I start fighting bosses?
  • Where would be a good spot to find health crystals? I'm in desperate need of them.
  • What should I do with the Corruption (which is like a 15 minute walk from my base) before I enter Hardmode so I don't need to move?
I'm also planning on doing either a Mage or Ranger for what Class I'd like.

I recommend fighting Eye of Cthulhu, King Slime, or an evil biome boss first.

I don't know what difficulty your world and player are on, but if your player and world are both on Classic or Journey difficulty, bosses can usually be fought and defeated immediately upon obtaining the summoning item. If your player and/or world is on a higher difficulty than Classic, I recommend becoming as powerful as possible before fighting any bosses.

One good place to find Life Crystals is in the Jungle, underneath the Jungle Temple.

To stop the Corruption, I recommend block-swapping about 5-7 blocks of uncorrupted grass next to each side of the Corruption with wood blocks. The Corruption can only spread if there's blocks to spread across, and in pre-Hardmode, it can only spread on grass that's not underground or covered in other blocks.

Hope your time with the game goes well, you already know quite a lot it seems which will be super helpful for you going forward.

Whichever boss you go for first, it should be okay, but the usual picks are King Slime or Eye of Cthulhu, you could also try breaking the shadow orbs in the corruption depths for a more challenging fight, but there is no missing out so take it in your own order! As soon as you have any kind of long ranged weapon like a bow made of a strong metal, enough throwing knives or shurikens, basically any magic weapon or an enchanted sword/starfury... basically anything you can reliably hit enemies with while at a long distance, go and give a boss a try. Their thousands of health do look a bit daunting at first but it goes down faster than you think.

A 15 minute walk to your closest corruption biome is actually very distant, there is very little threat it can cause by spreading, but before hardmode only the grass spreads onto more grass so a simple wooden barrier separating the purple and green grass will do it (wood can not be corrupted at all, unlike stone. you can also use gray bricks, other kinds of wood, even clay). Once you beat your first mechanical boss in hardmode you can buy a clentaminator to push back against the now spreading corruption, this means there is actually only a very small window of progression where there is nothing you can do about it. So don't worry too much on it.
Have fun!

Thanks! I forgot to mention but I'm on Classic Difficulty.

I was thinking either King Slime or Eye of Cthulhu, which ever boss summon item I get first, before heading to shatter any Shadow Orbs.

Thanks the ideas! Unfortunately college starts soon and I might have to use these later.

Anyway, I went out to explore more, and encountered a large tree I cannot break with my copper axe. What should I get to craft a better axe?

I like those trees, they are really big and can even reach into space on smaller world types. You can even try making a house using one.
You can break the giant trees using your pickaxe, even though it does not seem like the right tool, every block that obstructs you at all is broken the same way.

But if you are looking to make a better axe, you can never go wrong with a gold or platinum axe depending on what one you are finding in your caves. You could also try making an axe out of demonite, if you have fought the eye of cthulhu you might have a lot of it around, and it turns into a really nice axe.
As you beat more bosses, different ore types will be available to make better axes. However there is no such thing as axe progression, every kind of axe can cut down any kind of tree, it is just a matter of convenience! And if you have the materials to spare why not speed up the process.

Very interesting! I will try using my Pickaxe!

(Also my power blinked a few times about an hour ago so it might be a while before I progress further.)

Thanks! I broke it using my axe. Unrelated but I looted some of the chests in the trees and found some silver & an angel statue.

The best thing to do is play the game without knowing a thing, obviously u need to look at the wiki while playing the game, especially your first time, the point is that u should search what u need to do next and then work on it in your own, this is one of the bests things on games that I wish I could do again.
but u need the wiki in case u get stuck in a part of the game, so my tips are: Potions for bosses are essential especially if you are above normal diffic, take your time doing ur stuff and dont rush the game, also u should know about the pylon stuff and the hapinnes of the npcs, basically some npcs dont like each other, and having at least 2 npcs on a biome and one of them is happy u can buy a pylon to teleport between the villages (1 pylon for each biome), make an arena for bosses with campfires heart lamps and bast statues, if u really dont know what armor u should use for your class take a look at the class guide on the wiki (ik I said to play the game blind but sometimes being stuck in terraria is terrible)

who I think u should fight first:
  1. eye of cthulhu or king slime
  2. brain of cthulhu (crismon) eater of worlds (corruption)
  3. queen bee or skeletron (skeletron wont take much damage unless u destroy both hands before trying to kill the head)
  4. deerclops (personally I dont care so much about this boss)
  5. wall of flesh (his arena should be a big bridge in hell)
and then u r in hardmode so good luck, this is only my opnion if u wanna follow some of my tips ur welcome!! hope u like the game bra

Lemme see
Tried taking a screenshot of the building in question
(Also first one of my character, who's designed after me haha)
