[Mount] More Minecarts

It's a me!

Pixel Pirate
CONFIRMED! Everyone pack your stuff, we'll be riding the hype train together!

1.2.4 brought many possibilities with the introduction of minecarts. We can now travel faster, create rollercoasters, have fun launching people into lava... With just 1 simple limitation: we only have 1 kind of minecart. I'm sure a lot of people don't care much about that, but I'd like to give my ideas for them.

MINECARTS:
Some of them were suggested by the community. Read the comments! In the animations they are all moving to the right.
Here are the base stats. They are the same as the basic minecart that is already in-game:

Gravity: 1 (lower values are similar to what happens in space)
Acceleration: 1
Jumping: 5 blocks (I think)

Also, all minecarts are slower in water except when stated.

For more customization of minecarts and even mounts, take a look at this.

BUT HOW DO WE OBTAIN THEM?

My first idea was to have different kinds of rails and rightclicking each would give you a different minecart (for example, if you right click a golden rail you ride a Golden Minecart). However, I soon scrapped it.

What I propose is the following: there is an unused minecart item in the game (ID 2343) that is unobtainable without cheating. I suggest that we are able to craft that item (for the normal minecart, just wood and iron). Other items would have different recipes, could be bought, or are drops. The Engine Minecart could be sold by the Mechanic or by the Steampunker, and the Golden Minecart a drop from pirates.
The minecart that would spawn by rightclicking would be the one you have in your inventory. If you have many, they could be chosen using the same criteria as grapling hooks.

Improved selection with this.

Some community sugestions that will probably be added:

Winged Cart: Has angel wings. Can fly 50 blocks when holding space. It is too OP for a minecart
Jungle Cart
Spiked Cart
Hero's Minecart
Slime Minecart
Mimic Minecart <- This one is special
Shining Minecart <- The Glowing Mushroom Minecart can do this job
Dungeon Guardian Minecart
Goblin Minecart
Under Rails Minecart
Chest Minecart <- chest data in Terraria is stored in the world file (except piggy banks and safes' data, which are stored in the player's data) so this won't be possible.
Pharaoh Minecarts
Frost Minecart
Invisible Minecart
Cardboard Minecart
Half Cart
Random Minecart <- This one is also special
Brothers' Minecart
Armed Minecart
Automatic Formation Laying Minecart
Battle Minecart
Rainbow Minecart
Ninja Minecart
Chaos Minecart
Potato Minecart
Clock Minecart
Bathtub Minecart
Toilet Minecart
Harpy Minecart

Hooking minecarts: This is in WIP state. We are trying to come up with a good solution. Too hard to implement; may also cause problems with other mounts.
Upside down rails and vertical rails (for loopings): WIP.

Also, if you want to look cooler while riding a minecart, support this little hat too!

I have a few ideas, like being able to combine the rail placing cart and any other cart, and second, it would be like the under rail cart, but would be like the skyhook from bioshock infinite and would require less space

I love all of these but I don't understand the Wall of Flesh minecart. It says it increases its max speed as you move, but isn't that exactly what acceleration is?

Still, all of these ideas are amazing. I really love the miningcart.

I agree it's a bit hard to understand that one. It works like this:
At first it acts like a normal minecart. After it reaches its max speed, it won't go faster. Because of the special ability of the minecart, after reaching the default max speed, it starts to increase, slowly. So it's a good minecart for bigger rides, and not as good for small rides. I tried to mimic the WoF, since it gets faster as you damage it.

I'd definitely like to see more types of carts. Don't know if we need quite so many. Some are much better than others. Ones that leave the track (Spider cart and Floating cart, for example) should maintain momentum for maybe a few seconds after leaving the track, but not indefinitely.

Maybe add a cart that has a sort of turret, so you can fire at enemies as you go by? Like a Tank Minecart or something.

The Block Interaction carts are awesome, except how is the Mining Cart mining without track?

I added more and more minecarts as the community suggested them. You don't need them all, but it was fun making them. The Spider Minecart can climb walls but for short amounts of time. It does not lose momentum because that would make its special abilty a bit underpowered. Don't forget that you need background walls to use it! I don't there is a Floating Minecart there though.

There is already a Tank Minecart and another one that also fires bullets. They are in the "Other Minecarts" spoiler.

It mines a 4-block-wide tunnel and lays tracks.

Looks like a great suggestion in total, even if it isn't super necessary. I'd love to see this appear in-game, even if the sprites could do with a few minor tweaks.
