Resolved [PS4] GAME FREEZES ON PS4 (all posts will be combined into this thread)

Question to everyone experiencing the issue, @cadillacactor @Howlingeight @DaJanitor @shadowjeffro : Which of the following behaviours best describe what you experience?
A) The game freezes for a few seconds/minutes and then becomes playable again
B) The game locks up indefinitely until you restart
Thank you all!
B I have waited over 2 hours and nothing so I would assume it doesn't fix itself

Literally just happened to me. The game just locks up (music stills plays) & I would have to close the application to start back again.

Worst part about this is sometimes it doesn’t save the last thing you did.

After playing for a bit I think I managed to stop it from freezing or crashing. I've lowered the graphics and now it seems to run normally.
Hello has this been a good/consistent fix since you found it out? Which settings did you change specifically? Thanks a bunch in advance!

B For sure, I've got an xbox one, was playing terraria for about 2 weeks before the 1.4.4.9 update and since then the keyboard disconnects frequently and after a while of playing or afking the game crashes, unplayable and loses my data if it wasn't recently saved. I love this game and got very sad when lots of cool items glitched out because of the crashes. thank you

This is a problem on all updated consoles right now. DR studios, the people who work on mobile & console, are trying to fix it. Do you use keyboard?
any idea when it’ll be fixed?

Ever since the latest update, my game has been glitching whenever it autosaves or loads into a world. At first, it started as just the music stuttering for a bit during autosaves. Tonight, the music stuttering got more severe, and the game completely froze on me. I can't tell if it tried to autosave when it froze as I didn't see the icon. The music continued playing but the visuals were completely frozen and no buttons would work. I reset the game, made a little progress to make up for what I lost, and when I saved and exited the game manually, the music stuttered again and I was afraid it was going to crash. I play on PS4 on the newest update. My world is a large world, if that matters. The crash happened while I was digging a hellevator near the ocean.
Before today, I haven't noticed any problems with manual saves, only autosaves.
ye i noticed this issue too, however it appears that world size is probably the cause, as the music doesnt stutter at all when you load up small worlds. as for how the crash happened, depending on game progression, it may affect how severe it is since it has to load all existing game data if the world is near or at endgame. also as a side note, the crash that is caused is an FPS-based one, only fix is to close and relaunch the game as of the currently known workarounds

can someone check and see if it also applies to the Title Menu as well? mine froze 10 seconds after launching the game, i didnt even have time to open a world

tested this by lowering all graphics settings possible, can confirm the crashes are related to the graphics setting overclocking the consoles when trying to load into the world. Tip: there's a high chance the game will freeze (aka FPS Crash) if the game music stutters when loading a Large world (this does not seem to apply to Small worlds as of current)

Hi All, sorry for the silence on this one, we have been investigating to put a fix in. If anyone is able to additionally confirm the fix suggested by Sinon878, then it will help us to track the issue down.

We are looking at a few high priority issues at the moment that came with this latest update, mainly for XB, but this one is also on our list.

Thanks for the info what world size did you select if you don't mind? I was gonna test the small and possibly medium sized worlds but just want to make sure this issue happens no matter the size

I have also done everything that was suggested with graphics, on a medium world, and the game has continued to freeze on me. It usually happens when I open a chest or go to put something inside but overall its pretty random. Keeps happening more and more. Also on PS4.

So I've done some testing on a small world for about 2 to 3 hours doing different things and I'm not sure if I just got lucky but throughout the entire time the game didn't freeze once. I have all graphics settings turned off and in advanced I set the vfx and wave settings to low. I started out by playing in around 10 to 20 minute intervals exiting and saving then extending the time each time. I've also waited a bit at the title screen I'd say maybe 30 minutes and it didn't freeze there. Next I played for about an hour and a half without exiting and throughout all this time I actively dug, collected items, opened chests, triggered traps, killed multiple enemies (multiple on screen at a time like the soul eaters) waited around paused and unpaused, not a single freeze. I'm not sure if it's the medium and large worlds in general that are the problem but for me it seems like small worlds are stable (from what I've played) I may test medium/large to get better confirmation but I did however experience the same freeze on one of my medium worlds with all the graphics on and the vfx and waves on high (which is what brought me here) so theoretically it does sound like the problem might be with medium and large worlds. If someone could get to testing a small world with different graphics settings (high, med, low) for consistency especially on different platforms that'd be a great help. Thanks again everyone for the support to help get this fixed and to DR for helping us terrarians lol

Happened to my girlfriend too as we were playing. She is on ps4, I am on ps5. It seems to only be happening to ps4.
And on xbox series s incase that matters

Does anyone have any idea on when this bug will be fixed cause I’ve been wanting to play Terraria for the past 2ish weeks and I just can’t

Hey everyone didn't want to repost the whole thing I wrote but the bug report from Shigeo00 on the forums (just a few posts under this one) has some good insight into what's going on with this from me as well as some others. I go into more detail there but tl;Dr after some testing with all graphics settings off (with vfx and waves on low) on a small world I had no freezing but multiple people have stated that any world other than small (from what I've seen/tested) will freeze no matter the settings (unsure if they also turned off the advanced options). So unless I'm just really lucky it seems like small worlds might be stable though that's with all the graphics set to low/off so I'm unsure if higher graphics settings would make a difference. This was done on ps4
