Terraria Challenge Thread!

Benry Gaming

CelebrationMK10
This is the Terraria Challenge thread. Share ideas for challenges for other users to complete, and then discuss your or others' progress in the challenge. Thanks to @tornado1234 🪓 for coming up with this idea with me. Here's how it works:

1. Someone (me first) will propose a challenge for others to complete
2. Anyone who wants to will try and complete the challenge themself
3. While this is happening, the challengers should share screenshots, progress, and talk about strategies for the challenge. This is not meant to be competitive, so it would be great to share your strategies and help others improve theirs
4. Those who are not doing the challenge are still encouraged to discuss strategies and/or share tips for completing a challenge
5. The next challenge can be posted by anyone. However, don’t post the next one until most or all discussion on the last one has concluded, or if most people just want to move on and forget the old one. If more than one are proposed at a time, I will randomly choose one.
(That point is open to revision, if you think there’s a better way for that to work then tell me either here or in a DM with me)

Important Information:

1. Don't just share screenshots. It's fine and even encouraged to share screenshots as long as you make sure you're discussing progress in a challenge. Otherwise, this thread could be locked!
2. Please keep it reasonable and don't say anything ridiculous like "Kill Moon Lord with the wand of sparking!"
3. Don't cheat! Don’t claim to have done it if you used godmode or something.
4. Please make sure there's actual discussion value in the challenge - "Make a cosplay vanity of Mario!" could be fun but isn't very discussion-worthy
5. All difficulties are allowed unless otherwise mentioned in the challenge
6. If you have any questions about how this works, I recommend that you ask them before posting to avoid any possible confusion
7. Vanilla only - No calamity or other mods

CURRENT CHALLENGE:
Beat Daytime EoL with only true melee weapons (Thanks @Clockwork17 for that challenge idea)

Edit of 3/16/2025 - Added point 6 in the "Important Info" section
Edit of 3/17/2025 - Revised point 5 at the top section, undid yesterday’s edit, and added the “vanilla only” guideline

Here's the first challenge:
Beat Daytime EoL with only melee weapons (Thanks @Clockwork17 for that challenge idea)
*True Melee. For balance sake you can do Classic if you wish. I’m on a lot, so I can tell you what’s True Melee and what isn’t. I suggest using Starlight as it’s thematically appropriate and good.

I fixed it

Starlight looks pretty decent for this.

Here’s a query of mine, are multiple people allowed to work on/do the challenge at once, or will it be like Pass the World, where individuals are in a queue?

Any amount of people can work on a challenge at once

I beg your pardon, but I must ask another question, are we limited on our equipment, eg. can we use post ml armor, buffs, etc? Or do we need to start from scratch? (Only for this challenge, by the way.)

For any challenge, any items are allowed unless specifically mentioned in the challenge name. So for "Beat Daytime EoL with only true melee items", any items, even post ML, are allowed. I imagine it will still be quite a challenge.
But, hypothetically (this is not an actual challenge proposal), if a challenge were "Beat ML with only pre-plantera gear", you could not use any item you can only get after beating plantera, including Post ML items.

I've beaten daytime Eol 4 times now and have 0 interest in doing it again.

However, I very much enjoy the idea of this thread, so I'm leaving this comment here to recieve notifications when the next challenge is posted.

Starlight looks pretty decent for this.
Starlight has enough range to get in and deal a respectable amount of damage during Sun Dance and get some nice chip in during dashes and Prismatic Bolt/Everlasting Rainbow but you honestly end up dealing a lot more damage passively off stacking damage over time effects than you do off the weapon itself.

True Excalibur will probably also "work" on lower difficulties? I'm kind of deranged and technically already did this on Legendary so I don't want to immediately steal the show posting an old video when there could be potentially more interesting options for it.

I'm not creative enough to think of anything else as a followup anyway.

Can a new challenge be posted before the previous one is done? What if good challenges get ignored?

I’ve revised the OP to hopefully make the answers to both of these clear

I'm trying to keep them "someone who's only beaten expert can do it" level.

well, I would love to do this but I have too much of a skill issue to try this. But, I do have an idea for another challenge, if you want me to tell you it. Alright, this is optional, but I may do it myself:
Defeat an enraged Infernum boss with on tier gear OR defeat Anahita and Leviathan in Pre Hardmode OR defeat the Aquatic Scourge pre Skeletron (no Roxcalibur shimmer shenanigans)

Are ones that make magical auras like the True Night’s Edge and True Excalibur considered true melee?

Isn’t that calamity though?

Fair enough. Perhaps there could be a Calamity thread for this... Anyways, I can provide different Vanilla ones. Here they are:
1: Defeat a Master Mode Hardmode boss with Pre Hardmode gear. (Not Destroyer, though.)
2: Defeat Deerclops pre Evil boss without dying once.
3: Survive 1:30 minutes on the Frost or Pumpkin moon with 10x spawn rates without dying. You must be out and killing enemies to progress the moon.
Do ALL of this without cheese.

True Excalibur, yes. True Night's Edge, no.

Pretty much what Calamity classifies as True Melee can be used. If it fires a ranged projectile, it isn't True Melee. The auras dont count for this.

I'd say they do. TNE fires the green thing so that's banned, though.

Anyways, tips for True Melee EoL: Focus on ALL DAMAGE. No movement or defense. You might be wondering, how can I dodge? WITCHS BROOM. Alright, next up, learn her patterns. She uses the same attacks in the same order every time.

True Excalibur, yes. True Night's Edge, no.
lol I originally put Night’s Edge but thought “wait that’s pre hard mode nobody’s using that” then added “True” without thinking

Also, I know this is pretty common advice but I recommend using Hallowed Armor, since it lets you dodge attacks sometimes. Defense doesn’t matter, all that matters is set bonus.

Ignore that!
