Random Roleplay Discussions

Yeah, I'm pretty bad at doing 'discussion' segments but things like puzzles and exploration can be great as long as you give people things to do.

If you do well with characterisation though, some scenes where characters just talk to each other can be good too...
...
Though I mean I struggle a ton with that and really need more practice to make scenes like that work...

(Fun fact: the only RP puzzles I've made are four puzzles for Live With The Consequences; a roleplay that I can't even start until the Generic Adventures protagonists beat Generic Main Bad Guy. Oh, and also the far southwest tooth governor but I'm not sure if he counts because I haven't even thought of any puzzles for the dungeon yet.)

I've started adding some exploration, but it's a little difficult because I have to update the map every time I add a new town.
I definitely plan on having more exploration though; I have no shortage of random ideas, including but not limited to:
A boss who can paint things into existence, and also may or may not be Voldemort.
More of the Side Antagonists from Unique Adventures
A super edgy guy with iron knuckles who lives in a town that's cursed
Super Smash Town
Back From The Dead (From Skillet's Unleashed album)
Northlands invasion

That was what I had in mind when I said non-combat activities; do you have any tips for starting scenes like that?
Almost all of the scenes like that in my RP have been at the beginning and end of combat encounters.

Just have your characters talk to others, I’d say.

Think about what your characters would be thinking of or concerned with or confused about.

For those that didn't see my message in TLPW:
I'm going to be away for a few days. I've been feeling really bad lately and I don't know why, so I'm just focusing on Genshin Impact right now.
I really hope this won't cause too much trouble in roleplays.

We are talking about conversations and puzzles but then there's one thing we are missing, it's called characters arguing.

You all are forgetting running for your life against enemies you cannot beat currently segments

Or like, cameos for enemies who’ll appear much later

Both are combat related I just struggle to not do combat because I find it the main appeal of RPs 💀

Tbh the only argument in Generic Adventures that I've precognized is one that I really hope doesn't happen

Hmm... That's a good idea. Maybe I'll make the second Lime Kelp fight into a chase boss fight...
So far, the only chase sequence I've made in Generic Adventures was Emerl.

That definitely seems doable; I currently have one such event planned, but I can probably include more.

Lately, I've heard several people say that RPs tend to be too action-packed and combat-focused,
and now that I think about it, my RP fits that description more than other RPs do.
Does anyone have any tips for how to increase the amount of non-combat activities in a RP?
I'd say, sometimes you gotta slow down and let people have their characters socialise or at least have a talk about some stuff. Maybe even have some comedy added in, like a chase after a small lost needle.

Have some possible enemies surrender or offer to join/spare you if others do what they ask about, in case of possible fight outcomes. Even in fights, not everyone is willing to die/kill for it.

Might aswell say this but my attention hasn't been entirely focused on roleplays, it's mainly stuff outside of the forums so if I lose track, that's because of that, my bad.

Actually, I have obtained a character trio idea.
If ever three creatures from three different universes were to met, their first hurdle would be language barrier, right?
Well, let's say I have a Snivy, a Chillet and a Fennix, but no idea where to put those three.

And no, I'm not mentally capable of joining the roleplays already here, aside of Grotto, which I already have 3 characters in.

I got an alert 4 days ago that the The Van thread had just been started:

Did anyone else get this bug?

So basically, for some weird reason the word 'god-like' (with no hyphen) was recently added to some kind of list of words that causes posts to need moderator approval?
Anyway, 4 days ago the Van opening post was edited, but it had that word in it, so the entire RP disappeared until the post got approved. It's really weird.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized when and why this happened:

My RP is so good I just had to re-make it on the spot, sorry.. 😔
Sorry about that. Yeh, we had to put “godlike” into the filter for a bit, but now all is good. Sorry for the hassle/confusion.

It's fine! The circumstances warranted it, and I'd rather the forums remain a little more difficult to navigate for a while than for prevalent spam to flood notifications all around.

For all of you TLRPPW fans, I'm here to propose an idea. I've been discussing this off-site with a few of the prominent members of the TLRPPW plot, and although the idea wasn't mine, the idea of a "firm reboot" was suggested, allow me to explain.

Essentially, as you all know, TLRPPW is a cluttered mess. It wasn't designed for what it's become, and a result, it has been very difficult for new members to understand the plot, intro new characters, and follow along. Character submissions are lost within months in a sea of post, the plot-points feel obscure and random, and while that's definitely a lot of the appeal, it's also a lot of the weaknesses of the system. This reboot, while not a remake, overhaul, or a remaster, would serve to fix a lot of these things. Side characters who've faded into oblivion, or who their user wishes to discontinue, can be definitively cut out, removing a lot of ambiguity as to who is where. The setting, plot, and groups can be fleshed out, and the story can be more defined. Character submissions could be made easy to keep track of and catalog. Most of all though, the roleplay could be given a "fresh start", picking up exactly where it left off in a new thread, perhaps drawing some new members in with the concept of an easier point of entry. The original thread can be left as is, taken up for something new, or perhaps forgotten. I personally am very grateful for the effort everyone has put into what began as a silly freeform RP, but for it to continue on, it needs pretty significant revision, if you ask me.

I thought I'd post this here to include those of you who aren't in the discord-centric TCF conversations I've had with other users. Feel free to field your concerns, ideas, or input, the bottom-line of this idea is that everyone is better able to understand, and participate in, the wonderful world of TLRPPW!!

Personally, I would rather not. Moving RPs to new threads always feels very iffy to me considering it causes one part of the story to be harder to find (being in a completely different spot, and no, summaries/recaps/whateveryouwannacallthem do not solve this in the slightest) and as such doesn't actually fix the problem of needing to backread. If anything, it makes it worse by needing to backread two shorter threads instead of just one long one. Speaking as someone with no attention span, and using let's plays as my example, I can actually watch longer ones in a short time when I actually try to do so. I could probably backread all of TLRPPW in a few weeks if not for the fact some parts hurt me inside.
If the problem is that character descriptions are buried... *sigh* why does it feel like nobody realizes they can just, like, ask for a reposted description? Especially for my characters, all descriptions are stored on my computer mainly because it makes them easier to post when asked to, with the ease of updating being more of a bonus than the main reason.
Same for plot-related things. Again, I could at least decently explain the things regarding my active characters (I keep these location notes for a reason...), and I doubt I'm the only one.

I don't want to go further into my opinion as I can tell my emotions are getting hard to keep under control and I have work to do in Minecraft creative.

I would have a higher chance of coming back to tlrppw if this happened but honestly I still probably wouldn't come back anyway.

Do I still even rp on the forums at all anymore?

Ehh whatever, personally I would appreciate this change (if I ever go back to rp) since its apparent as time went on, I started to lose track of freeform rps and preferred the more "plotted" kind.

Maybe I could pick back up old characters and start using ones I made off-forums if I can settle on their info.
