To me, the mobs look a bit like corruption mobs. Perhaps the corruption is related to the moon somehow?

I had proposed a theory earlier that these new mobs are horrid mixtures of the Corruption and Crimson, as well as Aliens who possibly made them.

I don't know if it is lunar or what, definitely pretty cool though. Also its acting like its in the beach even though they in forest, maybe moon so close it makes it high tide? The tentacles on the creates make it look more like the cultist/Cthulhu thing. I don't know though, just some guesses.

The beach biome often changes background BEFORE you get to the sand itself. The person was probably just CLOSE to the beach.
