Other A compost bin that slowly spawns worms overtime

Adding a compost bin/pile that when open/turned on, would slowly spawn worms kind of like a statue does for other creatures.

It should probably be made using a maybe 5 pieces of fruit and some wood. Perhaps using a food item on the compost bin/pile when placed down could force a worm or 2 to spawn. Might also be an interesting way to get gold worms if they have a chance to spawn from the compost. Definitely would make crafting enchanted nightcrawlers for fishing a little easier.

Perhaps the compost pile could also generate a small amount of fertilizer over time too.

Would also be cool if birds had a small chance to attack and eat a worm when they fly over one.

You'd need to get it earlier for it to be really useful. It's not difficult to accrue large amounts of Journeyman Bait or even Master Bait. I think 5 fruit is too pricey.

There should be a limit to how many worms each one can have out at once though so that it doesn't reach the spawn cap, maybe like 8 worms at most. It would also mean you need to check it often to get the most benefit out of it which seems fair to me.

How is 5 fruit too pricey? You can get wood and 5 fruit in your first 5-10 minutes. Any earlier would be like... 10 dirt or something.
You'd easily be able to get this earlier than the Merchant, who you would need to benefit from this anyway since he sells the bug net. If anything I think this sounds rather cheap, maybe they could add a worm or two to the recipe to explain where the worms come from.

I challenge you to get 5 fruit in even your first two days of Terraria. The drop rate is not that good.

It was admittedly harder than I expected but I still got them all before the first night (along with the eucalyptus sap for some reason which is the rarest item you can get from a tree.)

When you say "harder than you thought," what do you mean? How many attempts did it take?

This was the first attempt, but it was harder than I thought since I had assumed I could get them all without even leaving the forest biome.

Hmm. Ok. I'm not sure if I necessarily believe that this is a cheap recipe, since you probably won't have 5 fruit early unless you specifically go for it, but I was clearly wrong about it being too expensive. Considering that all you get out if it is worms, it's probably fine as it is.
