My NPC's wont teleport home while offscreen. It's night time, housing is valid and succesfully assigned.
Tried to move many screens away - didn't help.
Reentering the world didn't help.

I heard someone mention this but i can't reproduce the bug.
They teleport fine when i move away at night.

Tried with Cyborg and Princess both teleported without issues.

I can attach player/world files if it will help.

Its possibly due to the very funky housing configuration you have.

Made another home, no funky configuration this time - still no go.

Well, I can only ask you to attach the world file then, I can't tell why they wouldn't be moving from the picture.

Made another home, no funky configuration this time - still no go.

Hmm i tried again to replicate the bug. No dice.
NPC teleportation works fine both in Journey and Regular worlds (on my end at least):

Made a little research, hope it will help!

@John Smith(unique) please upload a world file if you'd like me to investigate the case further.

I seem to be having the same issue, npcs won't teleport back home to my usual 3x10 "houses", but seem to be able to teleport back into sky island houses. World attached.

I'm having the same issue. From my testing, mine was from the housing being too far off the ground. At least that is what it seems like. Once I built housing on the ground they moved in no problems. The only way they would move in in an elevated house was if they died and respawned while I was not close to the housing or natural spawn while I wasn't close to the housing. Otherwise they would just wonder on the ground and never teleport to their assigned houses no matter what.

Thanks guys, I've got the reproduction now, will make a report for it :)

I had the same problem when the Princess spawned. I assigned her a valid house within the Forest biome, but she refused to move in even during nighttime and after my character had moved far away so the Princess was offscreen. I then tried re-assigning the Zoologist to another valid house and the Zoologist refused to move in even during nighttime and my character was so far away that the Zoologist was offscreen. As a workaround, I summoned a mechanical boss to let it kill the Zoologist. After being slain, the Zoologist spawned the next day and moved into her new valid house.

Seems that teleporting depends on chair placement. Guide would teleport between B and C, and not teleport to A

Im having the same issue with all of my NPCs on my multiplayer world

Thanks for the research @John Smith(unique)! I've been checking a few threads, does anyone have an idea when (roughly) the next hotfix is planned for?

Huh i know this has been flagged as Reported already but i like to add that i was finally able to reproduce this issue.
It indeed seems to be affected by chair placement.

I made box houses with tables NPCs won't move when chair is too close to the table regardless of several blocks of free space still available for them to walk on.
I moved the chair away by one block and violla they teleport again properly.

Chair placement issues are specifically what we have made a fix for, though we haven't tested the fixes yet.

This is currently happening for me as well. Witch Doctor is walking to his house, hasn't teleported, and night time has passed. Think I'll just escort him there which will take a while...

Almost five years later and this unfortunately still isn't fixed.
