Oh my gosh it's perfect

Does it count defense or no
Like if a monster does 9 damage but my defense decreases it to 4 do I do 9 or 4 damage

Yeah no, this under ideal conditions could obliterate moonlords core in one hit.

fall out the world with a brain of confuzzlement
and bam
78,000 damage

Love the idea! All of it seems pretty good except for the insane speed and ranged attacks. I think this would be more fitting of true melee, maybe even a short sword, considering how strong it can be. And yes, true melee short sword means you would likely take a lot of damage in return, which just serves to ensure you are dealing the damage of whatever you are fighting.

The first thing I thought of was how this seems similar to a previous suggestion of mine, a bloodlust shortsword, but admittedly better with a less situational upside and a less crushing downside.

Did you even read the post? First of all the brain makes you dodge and NOT TAKE the damage, which therefore wouldn't help, and even then that's assuming environmental damage worked which is not the case. As stated in the post, this only applies to damage from enemies, and not environmental. Third, you would have to take a large amount of damage and not die, since it resets on death. I suppose since you deal the damage before defense,

How so? In what situation can you take that much damage and not die?

Edit: okay so Im trying to do the math. The maximum possible defense is 186, and maximum possible DR is 73.6%, but these require different setups and are therefore mutually exclusive. I'm not sure which is better or which could allow you to survive a stronger hit, and would therefore work better with this weapon, but going with the DR, that is about 3/4, so you could theoretically survive about a 1900 damage hit? This however means that you would be left at VERY low health, and taking any other hit would result in you either dying or having your damage reset.

I skimmed over it for the most part, I'll reread it.

I like this idea!
