Prologue - The Beginning

Tim woke up that day with an awful headache.
A shame too. Today was a very important day. A grey day. A rain day. But not only that, it was also the day that President Johnny Capricorn, The United States of America's 46th President, was making a speech in his town. The speech was supposed to be about the fact that the "Rebellion would soon be Quenched" and " A house divided cannot stand." So basically the same sort of propaganda that they had been fed for the last two years the rebellion has been going. From what Tim could tell, the rebels, or, as they called themselves, "Freedom Fighters", were winning. The whole state of Texas and around half of Arizona were overrun. The fighting was also fierce in Oklahoma and Louisiana. Pushing these thoughts aside, (thinking made his head hurt even more), Tim rose slowly out of bed, muttering a few curses, and groggily made his way down the orphanage stairs.

Chapter One- "Warning: do not feed the planet."

After forcing some cold gruel down his throat, he quickly went out the door to the street. The people who ran the orphanage liked to use the unfortunate youths there as slave labor. Tim would have none of it. As he wandered down the the street, he was fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on your outlook,) enough to run into his best friend, Eli Watson.
Eli still had his father, who worked as a gatekeeper for the small town of Westford Crossing in which they lived. Since the raid, everyone was paranoid the rebels might come again, so they built a big wall around the town with two gates, one by the docks and one by the forest, where Mr. Watson worked. 'Hey, Tim." Eli said as he sauntered up. "Wanna go play by the far bank? I heard that's a good spot for Marbling." Tim replied eagerly. "Sure, anything to get out of this dreary place." The two boys took the bridge by the docks over the now brown-and-red river water. Brown and red from mud and blood, the two most common things on the battlegrounds.

Once there, Eli looked around at the muddy plain that stretched on for a couple miles. A battle here was so fierce that it wore down the trees and hills. Apart from a few burned out battle tanks in the distance, it was empty. Tim pulled out a leather puck of marbles. They drew a circle in the ground with a metal pole, silently began to play. Halfway through the second game, however, a tremor shook the earth violently. He could here screams from Westford, and from Eli. But a crack opened beneath their feet, and they tumbled into the deep black abyss.
