Switch Unbearably severe slowdowns with storm effects

I've been playing on Switch for the first time in a little while, and upon entering a desert during a sandstorm, the game slows down tremendously. It's hard to measure exactly how much, but it feels like it runs at least half as fast, if not even slower than that, especially when I start firing weapons that create particle effects. I first encountered this in multiplayer, however just to ensure that it wasn't a multiplayer-exclusive bug, I tried it again later in single-player, and it was just as bad.
Turning off storm effects in the settings does clear the slowdown, however I still felt that this issue is worth reporting, because even if it's an option, it really doesn't seem like the sandstorm effect should be causing this much of a performance cut.
