Sprites The Infestation (Alternate Corruption)

Izzabelle

Lunatic Cultist

an alternate corruption

Introduction

Warning! This suggestion is kind of massive! It spans 3 posts!
The Infestation should have been posted AGES AGO. But the original sprites were lost when my last computer died. Very tragic, many tears, awful awful time. Everything you see (except for 1.3 related items) has been sprited TWICE. But I'm actually kind of glad I got to "redo" The Infestation because I think the 2nd time around produced much better results. Anyways...

The Infestation is a hive colony of parasites from origins unknown. It's inhabitants seek to infect, infest, spread, and consume. It's up to you, brave hero, to put an end to The Infestation before their number and appetite suffocate and strip the world.

Disclaimer

***** Please Read Before Posting *****
This is a suggestion. And as such does not assume anything definitively. This means...

Balance is a non-issue; the numbers are provided to elicit an idea of what values an object could have. If the not-set-in-stone-imaginary numbers upset you, you're welcome to suggest other numbers, but they have no bearing on the suggestion changed or not.

Sprites are a non-issue; sprites have been provided, like balance, to help imagine the suggestion as a concept. In no way are any of the sprites final. Just like the numbers, they too are not-set-in-stone-imaginary things. This means that recolored, spliced, and unique sprites have no ultimate bearing on the suggestion. If any particular sprite upsets you, you are welcome to provide one of your own to remedy the not-actually-an-issue so that I may reject it.

This is an alternate. This means that The Infestation can spawn in a world instead of The Corruption or The Crimson. It does not replace The Corruption. It does not replace The Crimson. As an alternate, The Infestation additionally does not mirror the values or gameplay of either The Corruption or The Crimson in a 1:1 ratio. It is it's own biome, not a recolor or reskin. The Infestation is also NOT an expansion. There is no additional content. Content included in The Infestation is a counterpart or replacement of existing content given to The Corruption.

Lastly; as an alternate (and not an expansion or replacement), The Infestation does not assume to redefine class balance. I'm sorry if your favorite class isn't represented well in the suggestion. If The Corruption represented all classes equally, so too would The Infestation.

Acid Burn is a new debuff exclusive to The Infestation. The player turns orange, loses defense for 2 seconds, takes damage over time (5-10 seconds), and can not regenerate health for the duration. The combination of negative effects makes enemies within The Infestation very deadly.

Weapon Imbue: Acid Burn is a new buff granted by Flask of Acid Burn. It will allow the player to inflict Acid Burn on enemies using melee weapons for 20 minutes.

Infested Water is the same as Unholy/Bloody Water -- sharing the same stats and function, spreading The Infestation over terrain.

Larva represent the hive at it's most basic level. Initially they seek out hosts to spread The Infestation, but as the hive evolves -- the larva do too.

In Hard Mode, larva will morph into a Tick, Host, or Exarch after 30 seconds. Their chance to drop Soft Tissue is also reduced to 10%

Birthers are living eggs. Their purpose is to protect the Larva that are gestating inside.

Birthers lobs gobs of acid at the player from afar. Uncommonly, a Birther will lob a Larva instead. When Birthers die, they explode -- dealing their damage in a small area.

Paraslimes are a showing that The Infestation has rooted itself in the world by capturing local life and bending them to the will of the hive.

When Paraslimes die, they spawn a single Larva. Their melee attack inflicts Acid Burn.

Tendrils are a result of The Infestation affecting local plant life. They begin spawning within the hive to increase defenses.

Tendrils behave like very fast short-ranged Maneaters. They can spawn on ceilings and walls and inflict Venom when they hit a player.

Swarms are a sign that The Infestation is simply out of control. The hive's numbers are beginning to overflow, and the smaller creatures are forced to find food wherever they can. They have been known to devour entire bodies in seconds before anything can be done.

Swarms behave like cursed weapons, can cause Cursed, and can pass through blocks.

When a hive colony senses that the world means to fight back it's infestation -- it begins spawning Ticks. Ticks are warrior drones with large acid sacs intended for extensive attacks and defense.

Ticks spray a mid-range stream of acid at the player which inflicts Acid Burn. When Ticks die, they explode -- dealing double their damage in a small area.

In the later stages of infestation, the hive begins to grow exponentially. To aid in this process, Hosts begin to appear. Hosts carry The Infestation with them, acting as armored carriers for their smaller brethren to infest new lands.

The Host causes damage to the player via melee attacks. Occasionally, the Host will lob Larva at the player. When the Host dies, they spawn 3 Larva.

Exarchs are a leadership caste. As the hive grows, or when leadership is absent, Exarchs are spawned to further control The Infestation and direct it's many creatures. Their bodies are atrophied, while their synaptic and psionic abilities are vast.

Exarchs avoid the player, firing at them from long range. Exarchs fire a beam (like the Moon Lord's lasers, but smaller) which causes massive damage, Acid Burn, and Silence. Infestation creatures near the Exarch get 10% increased attack damage, movement speed, and gain health regeneration. When an Exarch dies they will either explode, dealing triple their damage in a small area -- or they will spawn a Larva.

Sandworms represent one of the hive's more deadly traits; the ability to adapt. Sandworms are perfectly adept at traveling in deserts, where their focus is to consume anything foolish to wander in.

Sandworms behave like all worms -- launching themselves through the ground. When a Sandworm dies, it spawns 3 Larva.

Sand Wasps are another specific evolution of the hive. They can fly endlessly while spitting acid at their foes.

Sand Wasps behave like Moss Hornets, only they are faster and fire acid that inflicts Acid Burn.

Infested Mimics are a terrible sign that -- given enough time -- even the strongest of creatures will fall to The Infestation. The indoctrination of these creatures makes the hive ever more deadly.

Infested Mimics behave like all other biome-specific Mimics.

Infested Mimic loot will be covered in another section of this suggestion.

When they hit an enemy, Acid Bullets explode causing damage and Acid Burn to enemies in a small area

Acid Darts bounce off of surfaces up to 3 times

Acid Arrows explode when they hit enemies creating a lingering plume that causes Acid Burn to enemies who pass through it.

Acid Bath behaves like a cross between Golden Shower and Cursed Flames. It sprays a mid-range stream of acid that bounces up to 2 times off of surfaces. The stream loses distance/momentum for each bounce. Think of it like a liquid flamethrower. Enemies that come into contact with the stream suffer damage and Acid Burn.

The Spine Thrower behaves similarly to Shadowflame Knife -- but it does not bounce.

The Spore Launcher is the "upgraded" version of the Lobber. When used, it produces a spore that will travel to where you cursor was on cast. Once there, the Spore will then drift in place. The Spore will home in on the first enemy that comes close enough and explode, dealing it's damage in an area. Spores wither and die if they do not find a target after a set amount of time.

Sprite | Name | DMG | Velocity | KB | Use Time | Rarity

The Queen's Tail is a devastatingly quick spear weapon with a long reach. Every 3 hits, the weapon will summon homing locusts in a similar manner that the Horseman's Blade summons pumpkin heads. It has a low chance of striking 3 times in one attack (automatically summoning locusts). The locusts will deal half damage to their targets.

The Viceroy is the overseer of The Infestation. They set up a hive colony on unsuspecting worlds and supervise it's consumption. While frail and small in appearance, the Viceroy has vast psionic abilities, and should not be taken lightly.

The Viceroy attacks the player from a distance. It utilizes two small lasers (like Moon Lord lasers) to attack the player. Additionally, the Viceroy has a forcefield that reduces incoming Ranged, Throwing, and Magic damage by 15%.

In Expert Mode, the Viceroy is faster and uses both it's lasers to "sweep" the area around itself slowly in 180 degree arcs.

The Cultists have seen the value of The Infestation. In their reckless ambition they have reconstituted the corpse of the Viceroy you have slain to control the hive. They have given their creation the moniker of Monarch.

The Monarch attacks the player from a distance. It utilizes four small lasers (like Moon Lord lasers) to attack the player. Additionally, the Monarch has a ripper field. The ripper field will reduce incoming Ranged, Throwing, and Magic damage by 15%. If the player enters the field's area of effect, they take damage over time and health regeneration is nullified. The Monarch occasionally uses all it's lasers to "sweep" the area around itself slowly in 90 degree arcs.

In Expert Mode, The Monarch is much faster. The ripper field will also expand very slowly up to double it's size, then retract slowly to it's normal size and repeating the process anew.

The True Calamity, when used, will send out a small shock wave projectile that splits into two smaller projectiles when it hits an enemy. The projectile does half of the swords damage, and the split does 1/4th.

Now this is an amazing suggestion! This is honestly one of the best biome suggestions I have ever seen during my time at TCF. You put so much work into it! Great job!
Edit: I recommend playing all of that concept music you included at the same time. Sounds amazing when all play simultaneously

Ok, One second. I think I need to go puke... rainbows.

I know how much work you put into this, so I don't know what I can say about this that will make you feel better about all of it. But this is just incredible! The sprites are great, and the backstory is even greater. Remind me to come to you when I need one. :)

I need fan art of this...

Really good suggestion. Well fleshed out and great alternate for the Corruption.
Just one question, what is the purpose of the first few Flatworms? They "negate/reduce" healing effects? Would that mean you wouldn't heal/heal a little bit of health?

This is....dang.....I looks amazing.

It gives a Metroid/brinstar-like feeling when thinking about this biome.
The color sheme looks unique too, I would like to see some kind of preview of it :)

It feels like a good alternate of the corruption/crimson. it has amazed me already.

It's just a thematic quirk. The idea is that the Flatworm itself is a parasite that feeds and grows by stealing your healing (rhyme!). However, upgrading it to the Heart Burster is worth tolerating it due to the explosive healing capabilities.

It is in and of itself a reference to the Chest Burster from Alien.

The color sheme looks unique too, I would like to see some kind of preview of it :)
It is for sure on it's way!

Fantastic Suggestion overall. I know I would really enjoy experiencing this in the game.

Items like the Flatworm sound very creative to give a great new spice to the game. Enemies like the Exarchs and Hosts sound challenging. And the boss is well designed as well.

I believe I don't need to think twice about it. This is going in my signature under Highly Supported Suggestions. You've outdone yourself having to sprite twice for this suggestion as well as spriting for the Banners as well Izzabelle. You've earned it!

ok, this is amazing. you've had some great suggestions before, but this is the best. this is literally the best corruption/hallow biome alternate i have seen. and that includes tobbvald's tinkering, the cyber, and the confection and sensation. this is almost better than the corruption itself, which is saying a lot, coming from me. and don't sell yourself short on the sprites, they're amazing! i can't think of enough good things about this suggestion. i really hope someone makes a mod of this. i know i'm really geeking out over this, but it's fantastic. i literally could not keep from smiling while reading this. amazing, fantastic work!
(i really wish i had an "i approve" banner, because this defenitely warrants that.)

oh, and you know what a lot of this reminds me of? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goa'uld#Characteristics

Thank you! Never heard of the Goa'uld before, but they sound great. You may be interested to know that The Infestation is influenced, and pays homage to, several pop-media alien races; The Scrin, The Zerg, Tyranids, and the universe of the Xenomorph. There's a few more subtle references littered throughout -- it will be interesting to see if anyone can find them all.

A support banner for the suggestion will be posted at a later date!

That biome weapon is friggin' awesome! I think you would barely be able to see the details of the spear with the speed it's at :D. That would be the perfect weapon to use during invasions.

I was a bit confused about the purpose of the flatworm for a little while but I get it now.

You make some fantastic sprites by the way.

This is overall the coolest biome suggestion I've ever seen. I'll be adding this to my signature soon.

The Destroyer
Well, fruits of hard work are trully palpable here. Yet another marvelous alternate biome suggestion from Izzabelle. I'd like to see it in game, instead of the Crimson we have right now. Idea is pretty creative and sprites are outstanding, they display the whole theme accurately. The armors are something are something I could most likely wear and Gaia Blade makes a great alternative to Terra Blade ( which is my hands down favourite weapon ), especially for those who want a more single target burst-oriented melee weapon, with more accuracy, albeit in short range. Also items related with this biome seem to favor Summoning, which is good, since it doesn't have much love, especially in early game. Just like I said, I'd gladly see this kind of biome in the game.

I love that idea. And I would love to see it implemented, but one can only hope. It would nice to have a middle-term between corruption and crimson, especially when you see that the main enemies of such biomes can be related to diseases. The corruption is filled with insects and maggots of certain kinds, and the crimson of bloody disfugured creatures. One could associate the corruption with Protist reign, the crimson with the Monera reign, and the infection with Viruses (well they aren't really forms of conventional life at least) And I guess the acid based items refer to the viral acids? Essentialy, we could have the unholy trinity of diseases in the game: Protozoa, Bacteria and Virus. And it actually makes some sense, as Protozoa are primitive life forms (corruption was the first of the infectious spreading biome kind) and there are certain kinds of Bacteria that devour flesh and leave living beings disfigured (crimson). You have my full support.
