Izzabelle
Lunatic Cultist
an alternate corruption
Introduction
Warning! This suggestion is kind of massive! It spans 3 posts!
The Infestation is a hive colony of parasites from origins unknown. It's inhabitants seek to infect, infest, spread, and consume. It's up to you, brave hero, to put an end to The Infestation before their number and appetite suffocate and strip the world.

This is a suggestion. And as such does not assume anything definitively. This means...
Balance is a non-issue; the numbers are provided to elicit an idea of what values an object could have. If the not-set-in-stone-imaginary numbers upset you, you're welcome to suggest other numbers, but they have no bearing on the suggestion changed or not.
Sprites are a non-issue; sprites have been provided, like balance, to help imagine the suggestion as a concept. In no way are any of the sprites final. Just like the numbers, they too are not-set-in-stone-imaginary things. This means that recolored, spliced, and unique sprites have no ultimate bearing on the suggestion. If any particular sprite upsets you, you are welcome to provide one of your own to remedy the not-actually-an-issue so that I may reject it.
This is an alternate. This means that The Infestation can spawn in a world instead of The Corruption or The Crimson. It does not replace The Corruption. It does not replace The Crimson. As an alternate, The Infestation additionally does not mirror the values or gameplay of either The Corruption or The Crimson in a 1:1 ratio. It is it's own biome, not a recolor or reskin. The Infestation is also NOT an expansion. There is no additional content. Content included in The Infestation is a counterpart or replacement of existing content given to The Corruption.
Lastly; as an alternate (and not an expansion or replacement), The Infestation does not assume to redefine class balance. I'm sorry if your favorite class isn't represented well in the suggestion. If The Corruption represented all classes equally, so too would The Infestation.

Acid Burn is a new debuff exclusive to The Infestation. The player turns orange, loses defense for 2 seconds, takes damage over time (5-10 seconds), and can not regenerate health for the duration. The combination of negative effects makes enemies within The Infestation very deadly.
Weapon Imbue: Acid Burn is a new buff granted by Flask of Acid Burn. It will allow the player to inflict Acid Burn on enemies using melee weapons for 20 minutes.
Infested Water is the same as Unholy/Bloody Water -- sharing the same stats and function, spreading The Infestation over terrain.

Larva represent the hive at it's most basic level. Initially they seek out hosts to spread The Infestation, but as the hive evolves -- the larva do too.
In Hard Mode, larva will morph into a Tick, Host, or Exarch after 30 seconds. Their chance to drop Soft Tissue is also reduced to 10%
Birthers are living eggs. Their purpose is to protect the Larva that are gestating inside.
Birthers lobs gobs of acid at the player from afar. Uncommonly, a Birther will lob a Larva instead. When Birthers die, they explode -- dealing their damage in a small area.
Paraslimes are a showing that The Infestation has rooted itself in the world by capturing local life and bending them to the will of the hive.
When Paraslimes die, they spawn a single Larva. Their melee attack inflicts Acid Burn.
Tendrils are a result of The Infestation affecting local plant life. They begin spawning within the hive to increase defenses.
Tendrils behave like very fast short-ranged Maneaters. They can spawn on ceilings and walls and inflict Venom when they hit a player.
Swarms are a sign that The Infestation is simply out of control. The hive's numbers are beginning to overflow, and the smaller creatures are forced to find food wherever they can. They have been known to devour entire bodies in seconds before anything can be done.
Swarms behave like cursed weapons, can cause Cursed, and can pass through blocks.
When a hive colony senses that the world means to fight back it's infestation -- it begins spawning Ticks. Ticks are warrior drones with large acid sacs intended for extensive attacks and defense.
Ticks spray a mid-range stream of acid at the player which inflicts Acid Burn. When Ticks die, they explode -- dealing double their damage in a small area.
In the later stages of infestation, the hive begins to grow exponentially. To aid in this process, Hosts begin to appear. Hosts carry The Infestation with them, acting as armored carriers for their smaller brethren to infest new lands.
The Host causes damage to the player via melee attacks. Occasionally, the Host will lob Larva at the player. When the Host dies, they spawn 3 Larva.
Exarchs are a leadership caste. As the hive grows, or when leadership is absent, Exarchs are spawned to further control The Infestation and direct it's many creatures. Their bodies are atrophied, while their synaptic and psionic abilities are vast.
Exarchs avoid the player, firing at them from long range. Exarchs fire a beam (like the Moon Lord's lasers, but smaller) which causes massive damage, Acid Burn, and Silence. Infestation creatures near the Exarch get 10% increased attack damage, movement speed, and gain health regeneration. When an Exarch dies they will either explode, dealing triple their damage in a small area -- or they will spawn a Larva.
Sandworms represent one of the hive's more deadly traits; the ability to adapt. Sandworms are perfectly adept at traveling in deserts, where their focus is to consume anything foolish to wander in.
Sandworms behave like all worms -- launching themselves through the ground. When a Sandworm dies, it spawns 3 Larva.
Sand Wasps are another specific evolution of the hive. They can fly endlessly while spitting acid at their foes.
Sand Wasps behave like Moss Hornets, only they are faster and fire acid that inflicts Acid Burn.
Infested Mimics are a terrible sign that -- given enough time -- even the strongest of creatures will fall to The Infestation. The indoctrination of these creatures makes the hive ever more deadly.
Infested Mimics behave like all other biome-specific Mimics.
Infested Mimic loot will be covered in another section of this suggestion.
